Super interesting stuff! I'm curios though, why aren't you always down in a wide stance with the weight of the balls of your feet, so that you can make that acceleration without dropping down first?
If I start wide, it makes it much harder to do the initial jump. I've found through more experimentation that the higher I can make the initial jump, the farther I can explode forwards or backwards.

Oh that's very interesting. I don't know anything about basketball so I need to look into that. Perhaps that's another thing I can apply.
