    Researching on the Hebrew roots of the term “love“, I found that precisely it implies “to provide“ principally. I knew I had heard a similar definition before... then remembered that it was from Josh and Sean McDowell, and I had to look for their references. In all of this, I gain a deeper understanding of this piece of wisdom shared by this wise men. Simple, truthful and transforming. I'm really thankful for their work.

    I submit that the common denominator of all real love of one person for another is to desire the ultimate welfare of the object of affection.

    1 John 3:16-18:
    16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

    Partially right. I know a lot of people who provide & protect and just don't know how to love. By extension, even my government provides great medical care, free education, good infrastructures, while its police and law enforcement people and the army has a mandate to protect us all.
    But I bet you the government doesn't love me.

    Reading the books of the New Testament, we probably asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
    The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.
    Find *"The Mystery about the Church of Christ"* video on RUclips, which shows the real causes of Christian sects and atheism. The video reveals a prophecy about the disappearance and reappearance of the Church of Christ before the end of the world. Watching this video will bring joy to all who sincerely seek God and will interest those who are not too lazy to think freely. Deco 65 i guess he is talking about the 2nd part of the commandment - love your neighbour as yourself

    • @deco6588
      @deco6588 6 лет назад +1

      His whole point is how to define love, so then with his definition of love we should nurture, protect and provide for God as we are to love God primarily.

      Deco 65 I agree with you. Love is much more than that. Love is not just act of will devoid of emotion. It has to be both. Bible also commands us to be glad/joyful/give cheerfully/grateful etc

    What a load of crap. Only a religious person could be this confused about love.

      How would you define love?

    • @davepugh2519
      @davepugh2519 9 лет назад

      Lynjoy6 Love - like all animal emotions - is brain chemistry, nothing more. It is not something that exists independently, just like 'sin' and 'evil'. If you have children, close family and good friends (or even a loyal dog!) you know what love is and you don't need anyone to explain it to you. According to Jesus the greatest commandment is 'love god with all your heart', which shows how little he knew about love because you absolutely cannot command someone to love you. Also god's idea of love is "I've sent my son to die for you now you'd better believe it or you are not coming to Heaven". I don't call that loving. Sorry if I've rambled on a bit!

    • @Lynjoy6
      @Lynjoy6 9 лет назад +3

      Brain chemistry does not explain love!!! Love is a choice! I choose to put another's feelings or life above my own that is love. Chemistry cannot explain why Mother Theresa dedicated her life to the needy. Chemistry doesn't explain why a mother would sacrifice her life for a child that is rebelling against her. Chemistry does not adequately explain why a father would go to a job he hates for day in and day out, just to feed his family. Brain chemistry is not sufficient to keep a husband and wife happily together for 40, 50, or more years. Love is a conscience choice to protect, provide, and nurture another individual. Parents do this for their children, not out of instinct, but choice! When you adopt a pet-you choose to provide, protect, and nurture it! A friendship takes a choice on both sides to protect, provide, and nurture each other!
      I firmly believe the only reason you disagree with this videos definition of love, is that you don't like the religious viewpoint.

    • @davepugh2519
      @davepugh2519 9 лет назад

      Lynjoy6 You're absolutely right I do not like the religious viewpoint, I was simply trying to say that love is not something that can be separated from brains, it comes from within us. As for mother Theresa - don't make me laugh, she never did anything for the needy except tell them that suffering was good because it made them like Jesus. Her so-called 'hospitals' were just hovels for people to die in, she spent most of her money on religious institutions because like most catholics she cared more about the church than about people.

      +Dave P I would like to know where you found your facts about Mother Theresa. That being said, you have not adequately explained to me where your definition of love is right and Josh's is wrong! If love were just an emotion it would still be a choice-all other emotions are! Emotions are tied to our attitudes. We learn to control our anger or not-choice. We temper our excitement-choice. We can swallow our sadness or not-choice. We can share our joy or not-choice. We can laugh or not-choice. Cry or not-choice! All of those are connected to our attitudes!!! Love is no different! If I am in a bad mood (my choice) and I lash out at you- that is a choice not to show you love, we may have been together for 40 years , but I CHOSE not to protect (your feelings), provide (a safe, kind environment) or nurture (emotional growth) you. Love is not the same as affection. You can love (protect, provide, and nurture) someone you don't like! Religion aside the definition stands!
