Thank you so much, I am presenting Demaree split at our PIneywoods Beekeeping Association meeting in Lufkin this Thursday. I tried it last year and we got tons of honey and lots of queen cells.
David please use the board more, I've read an listened to this method but seeing an hearing your simplistic breakdown finally help make ful sense to this method. Thank You for this channel.
David thank you for explaining so many different techniques and making things really super easy to understand! I’ve been following you for almost 18 months of my beekeeping journey and you have helped me bc a much better beek!
Hi David. We are living in south west France. I would like to say thank you so much for being generally fantastic, all of the hard work sharing your knowledge and wisdom is honestly brilliant. We have 28 hectare small holding with heritage pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks and turkey's. We run a permaculture system with no chemicals or intensive land use. If you ever happen to in France you and family are welcome to come and stay. Keep up the great work and energy. Kind regards Jacob
I am a huge promoter of the Demaree method. It works, prevents swarms, increases honey production and it is possible to raise a second Queen in the top box (with an upper entrance and additional excluder). I believe in this so much, not only did I make a video of it but I give PowerPoint presentations to bee clubs in several states every year. I am so glad more people are being shown this method. As I say in my presentations "Not everyone wants to increase their apiary size with splits to prevent swarming". Good job David.
Love the use of the board, and how you simplified the Demaree method so well for us. Now that the COO (my wife) has capped the # of hives I'm allotted for the back yard, this will be my go-to configuration next spring. Thanks!
what do you do after.because you said you also put brood and eggs in the top boxes. But if there's eggs and brood ware do they put the Honey. If most of the frame's are full? From Ross McNamara thank you David😄😄😄😄😄
This is EXACTLY what I needed. What a great video! I live in a fairly dense neighborhood and I only want to keep four hives. I will definitely be using this method. Thank you!
I have to catch up on yesterday’s live, thanks for sharing the Demaree Method! Please continue sharing, huge fan! Btw I am also a proud winner of your give away - Madera’s Queen Honey won a Burns Feeder 🎉
Thanks David, one of the most simplified explanations of the Demaree Method I have seen. One quick comment ; you need to stress that your newly constructed Demaree hive occupies the same physical spot where the old (strong) hive existed. The new hive replaces the old hive, it doesn't go next to it or on a different hive stand. Of lesser importance, I've had old beeks tell me to NOT use brood frames for honey frames as it can impart an 'off taste' to the extracted honey. This is a human complaint, not a bee complaint; the honeybees will consume the honey just fine 🙂
I had a good year last year. Got almost all colonies through winter, then swarms hit!! Going Demare method for any packed with bees tomorrow. 80 in Atlanta weds.
David - kudos for being able to write backwards LEGIBLY - another amazing talent. I'm going to try this whenever my new hive looks ready for it. Thanks for making it seem possible!
Aloha Dave, This method imitates many wild hives I have studied in Hawaii. Big difference? There is no winter in Hawaii below 8,000 feet but bees continue to prepare for winter and pack the honey in.
David, This is the first year I had a hive survive the Winter and I just applied your Demaree Technique today. I'm so excited to experience a Spring and Summer with a thriving hive! I'll worry about the Fall and what to do when the time comes. Love the Board!
David we want more! lol This was a great video very well presented. I wanted to see this because I was told it could come up on the Journeyman level of the MBP. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Dave, I'm switching over to single deep management. Can you make a video on how to keep those hives from swarming. Coming out of winter in just singles
I think I'll try this as soon as I get in the 70's to not kill the larva looking for the queen. Things are starting to bloom so it's going to be soon love the board
Oh man, this is both great, and super frustrating (at least for me). You perfectly and simply describe what to do, but interject random side-quest non-sequiturs that totally throw me off. Like, I'm listening and processing intently, then you totally derail my brain. I edited a version for myself and my friends, just the facts m'am. But definitely gave you credit and steered them all to subscribe to you. 😎
Watched like 4 times and about to try out on one of my strongest hives. I want to use a couple of the queen cells to make nucs and replace some of my queens in defensive (MEAN!) hives. Also going to try the snelgrove method on another hive, THANKS FOR THE GREAT TEACHING VUDEOS 👍
When you remove the queen sales and you don’t want to destroy them where do you put them? Are you separating them off the frame? Are you moving the entire frame? I love this I lost my very first hive to a swarm, and was not able to keep the swarm in the hive I provided for them, and the remaining bees without the queen, were never able to keep a queen, and I went through winter with only two frames of bees so learning more about swarms is a thumbs up for me
Sent my mind off to the races.. giant hive? What happens next time? Same thing? How big could it get? Seems simple enough the first time, I love the way you explain things, so keep on teaching, some of us are learning a lot from you….
Hi David, another great video! I was thinking about your clear screen that you use here. To have a camera set up and film the way you do, you're having to write backwards aren't you? That's impressive! That must be great for your brain.........talk about having to "stay in the moment". Cheers from Vancouver, Canada
I needed this and need to make a second hive. Last year my other hive swarmed ... and lost the hive. ... because I didn't know what this video showed. I have two deeps, one full, checked last week and queen was in the bottom ... second deep loaded with resources... top medium is about three frames with resources.. I have two mediums that have backup honey as feed and can be extracted.
While I was watching and listening to this video, I was wiring up new deep frames for a new hive. Next comes adding the foundation and finishing sanding and oiling down the 10 frame deep with Tung Oil that these frames will be going in come May when my Nucleus gets here. Great video and yes, I would like to see more like this.

Aloha Dave,
