They made it drop exotic class items so solo players have another source to get them, whilst simultaneously making it harder on solo players by removing matchmaking in higher difficulties, genius move
In my opinion all holidays activity should have 1 guaranteed or guarantees depending on normal difficulty festival/holiday activities then on harder difficulties should have guaranteed 2 and a chance to get 3 engrams in this festival for example. It would encourage players to try the activity and its a festival not a spare ration activity. Should just be for fun and let loose dont need to be like the best weapons are here or etc.
If it Expert isn't matchmade, but it isn't anywhere on LFG, then it sou ds like something is bugged. My guess is the activity isn't matchmade because the power level went up since last year, so the game automatically set it to close matchmaking. Essentially, an updated value didn't get typed in somewhere. I hope they either open the Expert to matchmaking or they add the category to LFG in a quick patch. I actually enjoy the lost sectors because they are so fast.

I felt like playing some crucible I got some pretty good amount of candy at end of each game for mininimal effort so I think doing all the bounties you can combined with activity completions mixed with haunted lost sectors

That public event is only random if it reaches heroic because no one knows how to do it properly. Don't kill the blights. Don't kill taken. Before they added the tormentor, it would take less than 30 seconds from the start to killing the heroic boss. If there was a noob in the event killing the blights or taken, it would stuff it.

for me I do an expert run of the event solo as a titan and it takes Me around 10m to finish it haven't actually counted how much I get I guess I need to see if it's the way to go but I do it solo with syntho- assassin's and it's pretty easy

What you do is: go into the bubble, this gives you a buff, exit the bubble, shoot the F out of the main blight. When buff runs out the blight becomes immune to damage so you have to go back in to the bubble? Rinse repeat until the blight is destroyed. Some noobs think that they are actually triggering the heroic cause they are a badass killing all of the taken. NO. No you are not. It’s the OTHER guy with the better gear and higher power level that you have been wondering “What’s that idiot doing?” That triggered heroic. If you are shooting bubbles/killing taken YOU are indeed the problem. Stop it.

Load up expert haunted lost sector, go afk until time runs out, boss will spawn, kill boss and you'll still get loot. You can do this solo as well
Strikes are 400 candy a run. You can run through strike pretty fast.
If u get a strike ur more likely to get battlegrounds out of 10 vanguard ops i got 1 strike
There are 2 trees with candy not just the one by EVA. Look in the other courtyard by Hawthorn for the 2nd tree with candy
parasite 1shots all headless ones at max stacks and if you're playing the game normally then you should be at max stacks very often

Find me in Destiny 2. My teams all know how to run all pe's heroic. It's a clan requirement! ;-)
The event goes heroic from getting the debuff in the blights and shooting the middle orb until it dies.
you get 150-180 from edz public events, and 390 from just a normal strike
