  • Today marks three years since we lost Lynn (Moyer) Attwood. In the Autumn of 1963, I held auditions for my first folk music group, “The Pretorians”. When I heard Lynn sing I was completely blown away. She was fourteen years old at the time and had an incredibly mature voice. We went on to have a performing partnership that spanned 53 years playing in clubs, college concerts, benefits, festivals, and political rallies until 2016.
“The Cruel War”, featuring Lynn with backup by myself and Dan Jamison, is a traditional song with English roots. Its’ popularity in the United States dates to, at least, the Civil War and possibly much earlier. This was recorded on our first album in 1966 when we were just cutting our teeth in the music business. The entire album was recorded in five hours because at $10.00 per hour for studio time it was all we could afford.
It is worthy of mention that Lynn was sixteen years old when this was recorded and she had no formal vocal training. She began studying voice in college and her teacher attempted to make her an opera singer. She was a lyric soprano and he damaged her voice to the point that it took her a couple of years to fully recover her natural singing ability.

This album is long out of print. I could burn you a copy of my disc.
