Thanks Josephine! Funnily enough my friends in the US always show me things that make me super keen to get out there sometime haha! One of them showed me this cool commune in the state of New York ( I think) that has made me super curious about rural sights out there too. More road trips coming in the not too distant future I reckon!

And then there are a lot of beautiful landscapes and interesting rural towns just a couple of hours out. Living here is really just more of an ~existential~ state of dread lmao. Will, if you ever make it to Idaho USA I"ll take you to Craters of the Moon, Grand Tetons And Yellowstone for a nice little photo adventure and you can use all my film cameras too. Hasselblad, RB67, Fuji GW690, Yashicamat EM, several different Nikon's F, F3 F4 35Ti and my dad's old Argus C3.
Cheers Bob! I’ll put Idaho on the list of places to visit someday when I make my way out there for sure! Craters of the moon sound marvelous, and Yellowstone of course needs no introduction! Very jealous of your camera collection, have never seen an Argus C3 in person but the pictures always look fascinating haha! The 35ti is probably one of my favorite cameras visually, such a cool little design!

BTW random question have you ever tried shooting Lomography 400/800 (120)? I swear my rangefinder HATES it / it's impossible to load as that paper is thicc but the results are quite pleasing!

I haven’t ever shot that actually, might have to give it a go sometime in the future! I’d shoot it in the rb over the mam7 probably to try and avoid any thicc paper jamming, I did some contact sheets of someone else’s lomo 400 in the darkroom the other day though and it did look quite nice!

In 1972 as a 14 yr old I won a Photographic competition and 1st prize was a 2 week holiday for two to South Africa (took my twin brother)! I have some very interesting 35mm slides from that trip that I'm scanning, especially some of the ones in Soweto that may be of interest to you

People say Cape Town feels a lot like Perth sometimes actually! Although the northern cape and Karoo desert are probably veeeeery Australia-ey - just fewer poisonous animals lol!

Yeah from the documentaries I’ve seen of South Africa it looks like the rural areas are much the same as Aus. If you get the chance, go to Broken Hill. My parents lived there for ages, it’s quintessential Australia.

Thanks Thorpal! I’m pretty sure I can only name three teams and those are two of em ahah! This rugby match was the first one I’ve watched since like the 2007 World Cup loool! Always seems more exciting in theory than in practice to me, I want to watch a team get like a super smooth passing run across the entire field like once a game but that doesn’t seem to happen particularly often haha!
@@willysheepskin I see :) Then try a Rugby 7 game maybe. I've seen the Blitzboke twice at the Paris Sevens and they are witty and fast. Only bested by the Fidjians but as impressive to see for real. Anyway, it's always pleasant to watch your vids !
I’ll have a look into 7’s things! I’m sure it’s far more exciting in person too! I think my struggle with it these days is I watched a lot when I was like younger than 10 and things seemed more exciting then haha. I was also playing a decent amount of rugby at that age so was probably invested in that sense too!
You know William you should make a video about pricing your photography in SA. Especially since film is basically being re-introduced here it can be hard to value yourself in an economy that says no to R200 ($15) Per hour.
Nvm the fact that I honestly think you are the biggest photography channel in SA at this point since Sean Tucker moved to the UK so it be really interesting to learn from your experience locally
That could be interesting for sure! Shall see how things go over this season, I still mainly assist and do other odd jobs - only really do shoots when people ask me which isn’t the best strategy when it comes to photo jobs haha!
Also there surely must be bigger SA channels locally still ahah, would be somewhat intimidating if I was next best after big poppa Sean lol!

Marking it off is a great plan! I had the little map intro in the RB67 road trip video so we can say it starts from there haha!

Anything past Pretoria/JHB/Durban/Nelspruit is like a foreign country to me

So weird how that goes hey! I’ve been up to Joburg a couple of times in my youth but never been Durban side, closest I’ve gotten is like Kenton on sea probably lol! I went on a trip to the northern cape once though, stayed in Postmasberg I believe for a month or so. Keen to explore more of the spots our lovely country has to offer!
@@willysheepskinIf you like Rural SA go to Clarence in Freestate and most of the areas around Nelspruit (Barberton/Machadodorp ect). Both have mountain ranges rivaling Cape Town in fact they are part of the Drakensburg
I’ll note those down and thank you in the video if I ever make my way that side haha, the only thing standing between me and glorious mountainous adventures and epic road trips is the Isuzu frontier I need to procure before heading out in them ahahah
Do you use a contax tla200 on your mamiya?
Can I ask you. I have a Mamiya 7 and a TLA 200 to. How to you set your settings on the flash to work with the Mamiya 7??
I just set the flash to M and then use the aperture calculator on top! It syncs at any speed too which is cool, you just have to adjust the aperture accordingly
@@willysheepskin Thank you for your response. Just to clarify, I'm using an 80mm lens on my Mamiya 7, which is equivalent to a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera. So, should I set the flash to 45mm? And If I'm using a 400-iso film and the green dot indicates that I should set my aperture to f/16 because my subject is close, is that the correct aperture setting? And is the majority of your results turn out well? Thank's again William, love your channel.
@@olafsson87 No worries! Yes you are correct regarding the focal length setting on the flash, and also correct on the aperture front! It took me a few rolls to get comfortable with it but it ended up making a lot of sense, if in doubt err on the side of overexposure cus it tends to go a bit under for me sometimes for whatever reason haha! So glad you like the channel, and wish you much success with your flashing maneuvers!
