Mahler's 4th is my favorite--- since I was a teen--- and Iain's "reduction" makes it glow. For me, hearing the symphony performed on piano is more than a treat, it's a revelation. Beautiful!
Lovely recording! Do you have any plans for upcoming solo piano performances of the Mahler symphonies? Didn't see any on the website but wanted to check
Iain, what you have achieved here is just fantastic. The 3rd movement is one of the most beatiful and tender pieces I ever have heard for piano! And the other movements even speak to me more than with the orignal orchestra version . - Thank you!
@@bibobabu8756 I was referring to the general tenor rather than specific passages, plus the amount of work involved. But just to answer you, take for example bars 209-211. I would need three hands to play those.
@@tedgrant2 It would still be possible, you'd just have to hold the pedal after playing the chords in the bottom I suppose. I agree however, that it would be incredibly difficult to play, but that is usually the case with transcriptions of orchestral pieces, take for example the Liszt-Beethoven Symphonies...

Скажите пожалуйста, а существует ли вообще клавир для одного исполнителя 4 (6) симфонии Малера?
I don't think what he does is humanly possible.
Which passage for example?

But using the pedal affects all of the notes, not just the bottom two notes !
@@bibobabu8756
As regards Liszt and Beethoven, they weren't human either !
