His real name is Cho Seungyoun, also known as Woodz (formerly Luizy), he spent his adolescence in São Paulo, Brazil, with initial aspirations for a professional football career, acting as a striker. He returned to South Korea in search of a musical career, signing a contract with YG Entertainment as a trainee before being transferred to Yuehua Entertainment. Seungyoun started his music career in October 2014 as the lead rapper for the Sino-Korean group UNIQ. However, a dispute over restrictions imposed on Korean companies promoting in China in 2016 left the group in a tricky position, causing the group's activities to be halted in 2018. After his appearance in the fifth season of the rap competition program Show Me the Money, Seungyoun debuted as a solo artist under the stage name Luizy in July. 2016, with the release of the collaborative single "Recipe". He later changed his stage name as a soloist to WOODZ in 2018, reflecting changes in his musical direction. The releases as WOODZ, plunged into alternative R&B, and included the transition from rap to vocals. Seungyoun participated in the Mnet Produce X 101 (2019) survival show, where he finished in 5th place, being part of the project group X1 After the disbanding of the group he resumed his solo career as WOODZ, he released two successful albums, WOOPS! and EQUAL, both reaching fourth and second position respectively on the Gaon music charts. Cho has made a comeback with his third EP "Only Lovers Left" on October 5, 2021, with the double title tracks "Kiss of Fire" and "Waiting". He co-produced and co-wrote three songs in English for his international fans as well as to take a leap forward globally in regards to the reach of his music. With this album, he achieved his first win as a soloist on The Show.
As a solo artist, Woodz has been involved in writing all of his lyrics and producing most of his music. In the early stages of his career, Woodz's musical style gravitated towards hip hop,[96] with his releases under the name Luizy also incorporating pop and electronic music. However, the change of his stage name as a soloist to Woodz in 2018 was accompanied by a change in musical direction, described by Status Magazine as an "evolution into a more realized identity". As opposed to his "poppier" approach as Luizy, Woodz characterizes his production style under the Woodz name as "mostly R&B", but mentions that he is "not picky about the genre".Commentators have also noted his experimentation with genres, with his music as Woodz being identified as possessing elements of alternative R&B, atmospheric music, and dream pop while retaining a "signature climatic sound".
In the documentary Welcome To My Baverse, a group of idols gather to show a new side of themselves and talk about their opinions and experiences about the K-Pop industry. Cho Seungyoun (WOODZ) has made bold statements about how everything he's been through in recent years has affected his mental health. he explained "It didn't start as depression but bipolar disorder." Shortly thereafter, Seungyoun shocked thousands of fans when he said in a video shown "Honestly speaking, this song is about suicide." Although it's not clear in the video which song he was talking about, fans speculate that it's the single meaningless, given what he mentioned earlier in an interview with STATUS Magazine. “Meaningless was like my diary. In the lyrics I used notes I wrote when I couldn't find a reason to live and I tried to convey that through the music” said the idol. Cho Seungyoun is very talented and deserves our full support!
Woodz's exclusive contract with Yuehua Entertainment expired on October 19, 2022 and he signed an exclusive contract with EDAM Entertainment on October 25. In 2023, Woodz announced through his fancafe that he will fulfill his military mandatory service as an active soldier on January 22, 2024!
