Hi all, trying something different today - a Podcast-style recording with AJ from Growing Grounds. Perfect to play in the background while getting on top of all your plant maintenance. Make sure to follow Growing Grounds: -Instagram: instagram.com/growinggrounds/?hl=en -Website: growingrounds.square.site/
That is exactly what I do! I have a room devoted to this new addiction I have making moss poles for my new Aroid collection. I recently downsized from a 'fish bowl' home full of windows to a smaller home surrounded by porches...so the windows are obstructed and it felt so dark comparatively...so depressing! I needed a greenhouse but living in the North Eastern USA made that idea too costly to heat during our long cold winters...SO...I decided to create a 'greenhouse' I live in! I purchased lots of LED grow lights and a truckload of new plants after finding your RUclips channel. I taught Horticulture as a career and now partially retired I needed to try something more challenging than Bonsai for my sanity. Thank you so much for your content, you have changed my life and I am very excited to grow plants with your substrate and moss poles...so cool to water with bottles as I like things clean and tidy, no soil makes this happen! Yesterday I had to add my first extension! I watch lots of other Hort RUclipsrs but you are my fav hands down! Thanks for this solution...your channel is an anti-depressant and I am pulling my Hort friends on board with me! You are a treasure! You should be very proud of your accomplishment and I have a renewed faith in humanity from you sharing your knowledge...x
I love all of your videos, but I really think my favorites are now the ones with AJ in them 😊 The two of you obviously enjoy each others company, and both have so much info to share. Thanks to you both!!
I thought it was a really interesting point about growing plants in conditions similar to that which the customers will be taking their plants home to. And using the same supplies. It’s like when you get a kitten and you use the same food and kitty litter the breeder used. It makes perfect sense.
I bought GT Foliage Focus and the bloom option because Jan's plants are so amazing and three weeks later I have new foliage spilling out everywhere. Even my ferns haven't complained. Great tip. You should buy shares. Thanks guys. 🙏👍
Opening windows where I am is impossible. Between the mosquitos and lack of airflow we would all melt. It is indeed a dance to make these beautiful plants thrive in our homes. Her greenhouse is stunning and she is so personable.
🐞 I love the collaborations Jan and Aj so much. As they traverse the topic of plant keeping , they really get into the nitty gritty of how to be consistent in the principles while being flexible in the application. 👏🏾
You two have such great chemistry! Lots of good information as well! AJ cracks me up! Tell her she’s beautiful as well, seems like a lovely genuine person! 🐛🐛🐛💚
Oh wow, this video was informative and so much fun to watch 😁 You guys really work well together. I look forward to more like this. Thanks and take care! 🐞 🐞 🐞
Great info. I am in TX, USA and I acclimated my aroids to be outside under polycarbonate. I noticed that my plants do need water EVERYDAY and they are just sooooo happy. I’ll be doing this every growing season. Husband wants to get me a greenhouse! We will see how that goes!!
SPG so humble asking for advice when we all know you have some of the biggest indoor aroids on youtube 😅😮….. AJ greenhouse so cool , especially the mister on the floor 😊 . Very nice tips very insightful thank you awesome video
Because of your Chanel, I’m starting to keep indoor plants again after around 40 years! I’m even going to copy your medium mix. AJ’s channel will be the next for me to study. Only thing I have trouble with is hearing the names of the products you use for pest control and feeding, maybe if you could mention the products a bit slower and tell us we’re to buy them from, that would be much appreciate. Best wishes from Victoria x
Aj. My suggestion for you re temperature varients.. ad another layer of cement but make it a heated floor so much cheaper than running actual heaters babe.. . And another wonderful vid from you both. Love it
Great video guys! I absolutely loved this and will be applying some new knowledge for my aroids! 💗 However, as an active outdoor gardener/horticulturist I’d like to add: Soil and dirt are NOT the same thing. Dirt is dead and does not support life. You can’t plant a productive garden in dirt. Whereas Soil is full of beneficial bacteria, fungi, algae, worms and other tiny creatures that are the foundation of a very important symbiotic ecosystem! The difference between the two is: compost.
Thank you so much for this! I'm setting up a greenhouse now. I've only ever grown houseplants, mostly airoids, indoors so I'm facing a lot of questions and challenges I'm not used to. This is exactly what I needed! Thanks so much 🙏🏾
such an informative video. I learnt so much from AJ's growing condition vs your indoor condition as well. I'm glad both of you guys are able to share so much. I'm just commenting because I stayed to the very end haha🐞
I have been following you and have learnt a lot. I am in Mount Gambier, coldest place in Australia and been growing aroids for 11 years. My first moss poles were steel wire about 25 cm diameter ! You and A J have some great knowledge . I love your growth techniques - no wonder you were awarded. She has utilised thermal mass in wall substructure. Very clever -Phil.
🐛 Thanks for another great video! I enjoyed listening and learning from both of you and your experience with plants. I'm still relatively new as a plant parent, but have been inspired by the videos on your channel and will definitely check out AJ on her social media 😀 🪴
Wow, I was wondering why my Cuprea's leaves were trying to face the ground when I put it outside in really bright light. Never occurred to me it could be too much light. Thanks AJ!
🦋 So cool to compare the two different approaches, the similarities and differences are intriguing and it goes to illustrate that point you make so often; we all need to do things in a way that suits us and our specific life, environment, and plants.
I have 40 plants in my bathroom lol! There is a plant window in there so great light. Most of my expensive plants are there and are thriving. Constant growth. I know all bathrooms are different 🤣
🕷️🐛🐝 Great tips, guys - I made the commercial potting mix mistake recently, and now I've got 1 plant in root rot rehab, and 2 in the fungus gnat naughty corner (aka outside). Lesson learnt 😅
I have to keep my bathroom door open for my cat, so I popped in some grow lights and my air plants and peperomias loveee it in there, can’t keep either one of those varieties alive anywhere else, I have tried sooo many times. But the ones I gave up on and threw i. My bathroom to have a slow death are now thriving, huge bushy and wild lol. I think it is mainly humidity and air flow tho bc the placement of the bathroom in the hall w the door being open. Idk if I’d trust my fancy philos or alocasias in there tho.

I dont mind watering a bit more with the freedraining potting medium but it is a problem when going on vacation with no one to water my plants.
There’s products that can help you with that! I’ll be reviewing some of those products really soon ☺️🙌🏼
