This was a surprisingly excellent demonstration of the differences. The maple fretboard might affect brightness a bit but the single coil seemed much more detailed and articulate. Great playing too! Thanks for posting
Awesome playing i have just put into my guitar the Seymour Duncan David Gilmour SSL-5 in the bridge position and a Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix in the middle position for the 60's tone and a Seymour Duncan SSL-1 in the neck position for the 50's tone .
I prefer the ssl5, and la grange is made with a stratocaster in single coil. You can also use a keyztone exchanger for having all the sound of pickups you want
@@GuitarSoundLab Hello Sir, Thank you very much for your advice, but i really Like SSL-5 Sound so if i put that in Bridge position then what should be in Middle and Neck?
@@abusydesyed4788 the standard combination from bridge to neck is SSL-5 - SSL-3 - SSL-1. But I suggest on the neck the Suhr ML Mike Landau in place of SSL-1
The humbucker gives smooth tone response in high gain, while the SSL-5 is more clear a with more definition, typically the single coils have this behavior
I've never tested the SD quarter pounder, but I know that it is normally coupled with a Telecaster. So I think that they have a different frequencies range
@@GuitarSoundLab everyone knows JB stands for Jeff Beck, but officially it's Jazz Blues. That's the Seymour Duncan way. They had EVH pickup too. No, it wasn't Eddie Van Halen pickup, EVH stood for "Evenly Voiced Harmonics".

Many thanks for your appreciation! Yes, the distinctive character of each pickup is evident also if the wood fretboard is different
Fretboard material has no effect on the sound whatsover. That is a myth! ' )
Great demo and great playing! I liked the clarity and cut of the ssl-1 here especially in a mix.
Many thanks for your appreciation my friend!

Thanks for your reply...SSL-5 is a great single coil solution for the bridge, honestly with it I don't miss the bridge humbucker for the heavy riffs
Seymour duncan ssl5🥇
It's a great choice!
Thank you for the comparison! It could be interesting in case if you put TB-4 into your guitar with maple fretboard.
Thanks for the appreciation! Yes it could be interesting, but the distinctive tones of the two pickups are evident also with different fretboard woods
Nice job & excellent playing!
Many thanks for your appeciation!
Hi, is it a good idea to combine SSL-5 and TB-4 as HSS set for strat??
Hi I've never tested SSL-5 in neck position. Probably you can combine TB-4 with SSL-3 (middle) and SSL-1 in neck position

The humbucker cuts better in distortion. SL5 is a good pickup too but not in overdrive

IS the SSL5 different than the SD quarter pounder?
I've never tested the SD quarter pounder, but I know that it is normally coupled with a Telecaster. So I think that they have a different frequencies range
Humbucker sounds a little dark - is it wired to a 250K ohm pot?
Yes it is, in any case in comparison to the single coil is darker
I just tried the obsidian wire HSS solder-free product. Easy way to get 500K on the humbucker and retain 250K on the singles. @@GuitarSoundLab
@@adambrockman4108 many thanks for the suggestion
NO JEFF BACK ITS JAZZBLUES PICKUP
JB doesn’t stand for “Jeff Beck.”
Yes it is Jeff Beck bridge humbucker
Jazz blues
@@biserbatov4956 nope. Jeff Beck model. Old Seymour Duncan adds don’t lie.
