Hi! I am flying from USA to London tommorow! When i came at first it wasn't that bad,but the next 2 hours were a bit worse, cus i hadn't eaten all day and i felt like i was gona faith.I tried to sleep, but i just kept waking up and felt so scared, cus i am on a plane 😭. Its a 8 hour flight and i trying to comfort myself to make it better! I mean the last 1 hour of the flight is okay, cus we start to go down and i am a bit happy, the first hour of the plane goes not that slow,so thats minus 2 hours. My flight is late at night and i land in the morning around 11which means that i will sleep atleast 3 hours! That makes up to 5 hours, that leaves us with 3 hours-1 hour for tv or netlix wich leaves me with 2 hours! Lets say that the flight is 4 hours and if i get to sleep that much that will be amazing!
My hesitation for flying is the thought of having a panic attack and being “stuck” on the plane. I used to travel quite a bit for work. But when I started having panic attacks the thought of having one on a plane has prevented me from going on trips. How can I desensitize in my case? Since in my situation, I am not worried about things like what you pointed out but rather just having a panic attack while in flight. And thank you for your wonderful videos!! I have watched several already…very informative, helpful and well made! Watching the drawings is satisfying 😊.
Hi Claudia. What you are describing sounds like panic disorder rather than a flying phobia so its is treated differently and takes a lot longer to overcome. My series on panic attacks will teach you how to overcome the fear of panic attacks. When you no longer fear the panic attack you will find that you can fly again but its not easy. Phobias can be overcome in just a few weeks but anxiety disorders like panic disorder take anywhere between a few months to many years depending on the severity and how long you have had it.
@@TheAnxietyAttic Thank you for your response. I have actually, thank God, been able to overcome my fear of panic attacks but you are right, it was a lengthy, slow and intentional process. I just need to get on a plane, maybe a short trip somewhere lol. Your page has wonderful content! My daughter unfortunately is now dealing with the same issues I dealt with. I have told her to watch your videos. Especially the series on panic. They are very informative and helpful. I think you putting this content on RUclips will be very helpful to people dealing with these difficult issues. I wish you much success.
Folks try to reassure the panic struck person that flying is safe. This does not work because the panic is not being fueled by probability but by possibility: in other words, is it probable that the door will fly off the plane as recently happened? No but it is possible proven by the fact that it DID happen. So acknowledging that the thinngs that scare folks about flying have indeed happened is an important step because if one just talks about probability being low, the panicked person will not be able to ingest that. I know because many have tried this on me and it makes me more upset that they can not understand why I am scared/panicked.
Same here. I do not give a FUCK about statistics! You can tell me all day driving is more dangerous but I won’t fall 30k feet out of the air if I crash in my car! I am extremely afraid of dying but I’m even more scared of skydiving until I go splat, I hate heights and the feeling of my stomach dropping.
Exactly right. Statistics are bogus anyways. It's ALWAYS a 50:50 chance. Either it happens or it doesn't. All the fears we have on flights actually DID happen. Just last year the plane in Nepal crashed and Killed everyone on board. That's a legitimate possibility, no matter how small the chances.
@@TheBobbysPerspective I wouldn't want to fly on any of those Nepali airlines. They don't require the same safety standards as the rest of the world when it comes to aviation. In fact the European Union has banned Nepali airlines from its airspace since 2013 because of safety concerns. You couldn't pay me enough money to fly in one of those!!!!
That’s not how statistics work. It’s not 50/50 in the slightest. By your logic you’ll either die crossing the next road you come across or you won’t. But if you look both ways and cross when there’s no cars, you’ll be 100% fine. Now imagine the lengths they go to for keeping planes and flying safe. It may not be 100%, but it’s very very very safe. Certainly not 50/50.
Takeoff is the worst for me. I fear that the plane won't be able to lift properly. I usually close my eyes and feel like I'm going to die. I prefer the landings, because those mean that I'll soon be able to leave the plane. But even then I'm a bit frightened. I may look out through the window, see that the ground is really close and think that the plane will miss the runway. Before the flights I usually drink or take a pill to fight the panic. One time, I drank about 5-6 beers and felt quite relaxed, but another time the beer just made me panic more.
planes dont do that. planes on their first certified flight, have their tanks fully filled and payload set up to the maximum weight. the point of positive rate (lifting off the ground) is then put as the runway requirement. a plane is not legally allowed to fly a runway too short for it to take off from. most airports have extra area for planes in the VERY unlikely chance that they do overrun, and this is also shown in the recent tui overrun at leeds bradford airport. hope this helps ❤
My fear is being in an enclosed space that I can't escape from because it's in the air, never been on a plane and would love to but that's what stops me.
Yes sometimes its not aerophobia that stops people flying. Panic Disorder, agoraphobia and claustrophobia may also stop people flying. I have a playlist for panic disorder which includes some agoraphobia videos also.
@Ellen-85 I'm sure any normal person walking onto a plane has had that fear of flying at some point. Let me tell you now, get that first flight out of the way and you will be hooked. Take off just blows your mind it's so cool the speed you get and watching through the window as it goes up. During a flight you may experience some slight drops or bumps but it is completely normal. Remember knowledge is power, do your research and see that it is the safest form of travel. The aircraft is designed to withstand many kinds of turbulence. As for fear of being in an enclosed space chat to someone on board, read a book, listen to podcasts, all tips you can use to focus your brain somewhere else. Just tell yourself it's a nit a journey that will last forever, even if you only experience this once make a short flight so you don't regret it.
Do you feel the same claustrophobia when on a coach, underground train or bus? I am also scared of flying too even though I have flown a few dozen times before. I have been worried each time..Not because of flying but because if turbulence and the lack of surface to ride on, be it land or sea. Plus with train and ferries, at least there are evacuation measures if something was to go wrong (lifeboats, coastguards, and the firebregade and emergency services for trains and coaches on land. But which service can save you at 30,000 feet? That is what scares me
I've only very suddenly had a fear of flying and I don't want it to get to the point to where air travel isn't an option. Ive done all of these for years and never realised. Loved the animation
Omg , i feel you. I used to travelled around the world and get excited abt it. Lately a bumpy short haul flight i was on traumatized me. I just came back on today on a short hall, already thinking this was a bad idea. Lucky for me, a kind passenger took notice and calmed me down. I dont think i can do this agaib.😢
For me it’s physical. I cant get over the feeling of being able to feel myself floating in the air. Like i can sense the floor of the plane below my feet and that theres no ground underneath
it’s it’s so weird i don’t like that i’m not physically connected to anything like the plane is in the air and im inside the plane moving it’s just so odd and not a well feeling
Last year, I was normal. I had no fear whatsoever. But after that, I watched a couple of Plane crash documentaries and a couple of videos on Reddit, and thanks to that, all I can think of are those scenes during the flight.
It's the feeling of lift off and then the descent that gives me the feeling in my stomach. It's not a mental thing but more of a physical feeling of falling
thanks @@Messier42-handle, i can rest at ease knowing "sussydogelikesplanes" has informed me of the impossibility of being on the jurassic park ride, but the cart is an airplane. (no offense, just thought that it was funny u were giving out these facts considering your name)
I am nervous for all the reason you state but thankfully I manage to fight it and deal with it. However I have started to feel very anxious once the door gets shut. I feel so claustrophobic even on a big plane. I am booked on a long haul flight next June and dreading it already.
@@steins3699 much better than I thought it would. I focused on 5 mins at a time. Didn't look ahead at what I had to face. I just got through every minute, hour till we arrived.
@@gillynanaof4899and you did arrive and make it back. As I text this and you read it 1000s of people are leaving and arriving as well safely. And it’s still scary haha congrats on not letting it stop you from going.
Thank you for sharing! I love flying in the past UNTILL… One day, on a plane from San Francisco to Japan. It was a long flight and I almost couldn’t make it. Luckily I flew with my 7 yrs old son who turned into a life saver for the flight. He told me that it will be ok mom, and tomorrow will be even better. I couldn’t believe how sweet words could help comfort me to our final destination. However, back to the San Francisco while we were at ours seat. I suddenly feel afraid to fly I couldn’t breathe well. I felt terrified that I may have to go back to the gate with my son. Then, I told the gentleman next to me that I’m not feeling well and could not breathe. He said “ OK “ then he went back to sleep. I told myself I have to make it because it’s about me not something else. It was hard but I made it. I finally found that I have claustrophobic. I afraid to be in a place that I feel trapped. Its happened in my bedroom, car, Car wash places, long tunnel, Trains, MRI. Yes, I still flying from time to time and I have prepared before flying. I will hop on board again this summer! I knew how people who have been through this fear and it wasn’t easy to get through. 💐💐💐
The last time I flew was nearly 40 yrs ago. I had flown many times internationally as a child till older teenager with my mom and sister to visit my maternal relatives in Germany every summer. I hated flying as a kid and got my butt beat onto all 3 flights there and all 3 coming back. I would cry and carry on the entire summer dreading the fact that we had to fly back. My last flight was returning to Chicago from Phoenix. There was a problem shortly after take off with the plane and it was terrifying, we had to make an emergency landing in Denver and get on another plane. ABSOLUTELY no way in hell would I do it. I demanded a refund, rented a car and drove back to Chicago. I haven't flown since. The problem is that my relatives in Germany want to see me, in Germany, so badly. Some of them have visited here a few times and my cousin's son visited us twice this past year while he was in the US for work. He extended his trip just to see us. He and his mother especially, she's the cousin I was closest to growing up, want me to visit so badly. I've agreed to do it but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if at the last minute I just won't do it. Even though it would be a huge financial waste to me I'd figure the ticket cost the same whether I use it or not once it's bought. Or if I actually got on the plane I'd probably get kicked off before take off bc I just know I'll have a massive anxiety attack and act like a psycho. I hate even seeing planes in the sky. I worry about random flights, flights my adult kids are on and flight in general. Intellectually I know that it's safer than driving and all those things BUT in a lifetime of driving all over the country I've never been in an accident, never gotten a ticket, never had any issue, AND I'm at least somewhat in control. I think of random stuff like I wonder how many people on the 9/11 planes, or any planes that have ever crashed, were terrified fliers who finally got on a plane and then came to a catastrophic end. I think about those minutes when you'd know you're going to die in a terrible way and can do nothing to stop it and wished you'd never gotten on the plane. There's just no way I'm going to be able to do it. Mainly because there's not a single thought important enough to make me feel like it's worth it. I wish i could get over this overwhelming fear, but i just don't see how. My husband is very understanding and doesn't think I'm stupid. He says he won't try and talk me into it although he'd really love to go. He wants to see where i spent all my childhood summers and meet all my relatives that haven't visited. I want to do it for him, but i don't know if i can.
I swear this was like reading my own autobiography, I am from Chicago and think the same exact way you do. I am open to taking cruises np, so have you ever considered that? You can cruise to Europe and then rent a car. I know it would be a lot of work but imo it’s worth the experience and I think it would be fun.
@mateo10734 if it wasn't crazy expensive and time consuming I'd consider doing that. But at the end of the day I've been to see my relatives many times and thanks to technology I'm in contact with them regularly. They can come here anytime, we have plenty of space to accommodate them. But sure if money and time aren't any issue you should totally do it! Thank you for commenting, at least I know there's someone else that gets it!!!
This is exactly word for word how I think. Although I’m honestly not ever concerned about terrorists, just freak accidents only. It should help that as time goes by we have less and less of them,, but my mind just can’t seem to get over all of the horrific things that could happen. Every bump sends me into a panic. Specifically when taking off 😢
I experience every single thing you said in the video. It aggravates me so much. I’ve never had a full blown panic attack (yet), but I take medication. I still feel impending doom, but I guess I just don’t care as much.
I check off all the boxes and then some for fear of flying. I haven't flown in 30 yrs, the last time I flew i didn't enjoy the visit at all I was asking the woman next to me the time every 5 mins, to where she literally gave me her watch to use. I rented a car back. It doesn't help that a friend back in the day was a maintenance mechanic at O'hare, who told me that if i new the "mechanicals" that happened with planes I wouldn't want to fly. i got details. I can't do heights, plane noises, the feeling of falling as the plane descends. i'm ok if i'm connected to the ground. I just finished up a long career I purposely chose that didn't involve any travel. My sister works for an airline and it is of no help. I would never fly in the winter due to the deicing problems i see. My reference may be framed by crashes in my formative years in the 80s. Nevertheless, i did see a "counselor" who was of no help and i didn't even pay the bill. My excuse has been i live in florida, i don't need to go anywhere. Now that i have more time and married an asian, i wouldn't mind travelling, have been looking into amtrak, but i know this is limited and it ain't cheap. and amtrak doesn't go to asia. So we're looking at cruises. i'm get really insecure and depressed when i think about it, so i just block it out. I don't care what/who the pilot is. Mentally I can probably handle an hour tops, but there are few that are that short. I don't know what to do with this, and most of these videos don't help at all. Air travel does seem safer now, but still. I'm willing to try baby steps.
For me, I'm most scared while flying so high. I'm sure it's a combination of a fear of heights and planes, but it's super scary for me. I know that the chances of a crash are extremely low, but the possibility of one happening and my life ending, is just something I don't want to risk!
I have something I call “pre flight anxiety.” This is, where my anxiety builds from the moment I buy the ticket to the moment I am stepping through the jetway and onto the plane. It can get really bad and it doesn’t have any rhyme or reason. I don’t think I’m ever really worried about the plane crashing. However, after flying all over the nation, I have become aware that the sky is a big place and there is plenty of room for the plane to do a number of things and even though the plane is made to handle whatever the sky can dish out, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I am. I’m trying to find ways to cope with this. It’s been a challenge.
Thank you very much for this video, no joke this has helped me immensely. I’m flying a four hour flight to turkey in a day and I’ve never been this scared of flying before. (I have been on previous flights to much further places when I was much younger no problem) I tried talking to my parents about it but they don’t get it nor understand how my brain works in these situations and just call me hysterical, but this has made me feel so seen. Thank you so much! I’m rather excited for my flight now!
one time i was on a flight and i had very big flyingphobia, i was panicking when we got on the flight and my stomach was hurting so much from it, i almost felt sick in the stomach from it
While I've caught myself doing some of the behaviours, I've taught myself not to. But my main problem when flying is the sensation. I hate when the plane is taking off, I hate when the thrust is cut in half after the first part of the descent, I hate when the plane turns and like most people I hate turbulence. All of these things make me feel dizzy, like I might pass out. I get this in buses and cars too but without feeling panicky). I've read how planes work and have friends who are avgeeks (two have degrees in aeronautical engineering) and despite understanding it all and rationalising it all (and feeling calm in my own head), my body still freaks out every time. I feel like I have no control over it. The plane bumps and I hear myself gasp or curse or like I'm about to have a wobbly. I'm flying in a few hours and I'm so stressed out.
For me, the worst part is when the plane is not straight. Even turbulences are not that frightening to me. When it's climbing, turning and descending, you get all these weird feelings in your stomache and that makes me nervous as hell.
i'm scared of the shaking and turbulence of the plane. it scares me. on top of all that update: i went to europe and rode on two planes to get where we were and two planes to get back. they were very smooth, i was comfortable, i can confidently say that i'm over my fear knowing what turbulence is. :)
I didnt used to get anxious about it but all of a sudden i started to. No real bad experience or anything, i just started to get very nauseous and anxious in theboarding and sitting on the plane process. Then bc im nauseous i get anxious about throwing up - throwing up in small plane means others will see and smell it which is what makes me anxious. Ive got a flight tomorrow ive spent all week stressing about and im just hoping i can breathe and get through it. We got this yall! I hope so at least. Im better when I'm flying with someone, but ive been alone a lot recently.
Mine is just the "stuck" on the plane and not able to get off. Its a control thing. Not afraid of crashing at all. And then freaking out in front of everyone demanding an emergency landing for myself. Ya right. Yes i know...
If the fear of being stuck on the plane is linked to a fear of panic attacks then you may find my latest video on panic disorder useful. ruclips.net/video/4IPMbY-5g6w/видео.html
I haven’t been on a plane since January 2001. I wasn’t always afraid to fly. But one day of a stressful travel day was all it took. I would get very nervous. And all I would o is look out the window and think wow look how high up we are and yes is the plane going to crash. I started looking at the flight attendants. But that didn’t help much. The only time I wasn’t afraid was if I was talking to someone on the plane.
I just thinking about all the people with flight phobia who actually died in plane crash. What they must have felt when they found out on there last moments that there fear was true
I was totally fine until 1 bad long flight where we landed during a storm. I’m fearful of things like rollercoasters for the feeling in my stomach during drops, so turbulence really makes me anxious. That one bad experience was enough for me to be anxious every flight following even if turbulence was minor. I’m so fearful another bad experience will happen, since I love to travel. I usually have a drink or an Ativan but it’s still not fullproof
I had to fly 4 times a year since I was 7 years old because of my parents living in different countries (Canada & England). I NEVER got used to it. As soon as I was of age, I started just getting drunk but my panic would sober me up so I'd just be uncomfortable. I'm about to take the longest flight in the world (Vancouver to Spain to London to China to Australia) and I'm freaking out
the only reason I’m afraid of planes was because once I was in Saudi airlines and they went up so fast and faster than all the planes I’ve been in, the pressure made me too scared and I don’t wanna fly again.
I don't like the "roller coaster" feeling. I'm afraid of falling to my death. I can feel that there's no floor under me which is scary. I get claustrophobic. I anticipate and fear dealing with all of these feelings from the moment a ticket is bought. The far of feeling these feelings causes me to have restless nights and I'm unable to eat and I'm vomiting, etc....if a plane ticket is bought with my name on it. I always say if my fear revolved around the day of the flight I'd be fine. But I'm sick from the moment that ticket is bought. I even get scared at the discussion of planes.
Before I beat my phobia, I used to feel sick to the stomach in the weeks leading up to flying. Then I was ok for a few days and could enjoy my holiday before the anxiety about the journey home set in and ruined the rest of the holiday. Its a horrible feeling.
I'm exactly like you! The moment the ticket is bought. I have to fly round trip to Bangkok as my brother is in the hospital there...27 hour flight. The moment I booked the ticket I felt that feeling..I immediately canceled my flight and hover around my computer...knowing I should rebook..have a ton of affirmations I'm repeating. It's the sick feeling that's the worst. If I could turn that off, I'm sure I'd be okay.
These are all reasons except one reason that I have is what It just falls out of the air like a ball of something and I’m also worried about the take off feeling
It's not possible for an aircraft to just "fall out of the air" the wings and engines help you stay afloat, if worst case scenario, let's say both engines fail the plane is just going to keep flying. The wings create lift. The takeoff feeling on the other hand, yeah me too I hate it. But it's actually just your mind playing tricks on you, it might feel like you're falling for a split second or two but in reality you're climbing up into the air as fast as you originally were before you felt that feeling.
In the last time was one a plane I had a panic attack for the first time in my life, it was a small plane with not so much room for my legs and I was sitting by the window. The flights attendants kind of saw me in that situation and gave a cup of ice and water, that really really helped me. For the flight back a friend of mine gave me Alprazolam and passiflori, I took both before flight (do no recommend) but I end up so comfortable and calm that when the pilot announced the landing I kind of wish that the flight last a little longer so I get more time to sleep hahaha (sorry for terrible English, not my first language)
I'd never thought of this approach. I'll see if I can do it on today's flight. Thanks! As an engineer I really do not like people talking about my area of expertise as if they know more about it than I do. But I have routinely done pretty much all of the Danger Gauge activators you've mentioned!
Years ago during a long flight, I encountered moments of moderate turbulence. The plane hit a so-called air pocket, shaking violently and it dropped its altitude sharply (estimated 1,500 feet) which scared the shit out of most passengers. I mean there was lots of continuous screaming. I had played rollercoaster rides before though it was never my cup of tea because I got nauseous after my feet are on the ground. If I had to take a wild guess, the G force of this turbulent was 10 times greater??? Anyway, after the plane regained altitude, I felt very sick, shaking and wanting to vomit. Since then, I hate and have great fear of flying. Despite taking Xanax beforehand and sometimes consume half a bottle of wine, I still feel much uneasiness. Every time the plane sways, even due to mild turbulence, I start to build up a panic attack.
@@johnny8416 Thank you for asking. there were tears a couple of times when it was a bit bumpy, but overall my husband said it was the calmest he’s ever seen me on a flight. I had also downloaded some favourite shows onto my ipad and enjoyed watching 2 of those. My journey home is in 3 days time. I am hoping to be as calm then too.
I have been an aircraft engineer for around 10 years and seeing the aircraft for the nuts and bolts it is has made me develop a phobia of it. I use to think planes were “magic” when I was younger and now I fully understand what’s happening it’s made me terrified of it. Ignorance is bliss they say. In particular, I feel like I’m floating and stuck like a lot of people do but I also feel like I can’t breathe the recycled air properly (which I know is ridiculous)
Relatable. Im an aircraft mechanic. Had a severe fear of flying before choosing my profession. It’s always intrigued me anyway, and I thought if I understand it better and do this for work I will be less fearful. BOY WAS I WRONG.
When I was younger. I used to hold my mom’s arm because I’m scared of plane crashes or something worse than that. I just don’t wanna die! I always think of “am I going to die?” When I’m on a roller coaster bc I’m scared of falling off. Or plane. So before I even get on the plane or ride I pray. I always know God/Jesus is with me.❤
My fear is completely different. I know what noises are normal and what are not. I do not look around for faces of passengers or staff. I love airports and planes. I do not fear take off or landings. For me, it is the in between. When you are the highest altitude. My fear is not dying, it is the time that it takes to die when you know you will. 8 minutes for that plane to hit the ground in a fall. I am fascinated by shows like Air Crash Investigations and there are so many simple things that bring a plane down. Plus, the stat of flying is the safest way to travel is completely skewed. Does not take into account that there are far less planes each day to cars for example or the fact that if your car breaks down, you can simply pull to the side of the road. Of course, the odds are low. But in my opinion, there is no such thing as an irrational fear when there is a chance that fear can come true.
I don't know what it is but my fear is not about the plane crashing or something. It's being stuck on a place and not being able to get out whenever I want to. I also get nervous when going into an tunnel, riding a ferris wheel (only if the windows are closed), riding a train, bus. What phobia do I have?
Do you suffer from panic disorder? People who have panic disorder are often fearful of any situation they can't escape from if they have a panic attack. The other possibility is claustrophobia which is a fear of enclosed spaces.
i havent used plane 6 years now. 2 years ago i bought a ticket but i couldnt pass the gate so i cancelled it and money gone… Now i live in another country amd i need to go to my own country for my uni exams and i am thinking of pushing myself… My biggest fear is when i get into the plane and knowing that i cannot get out after the doors close. Most of people fear the departer and landing but i fear when we are at our highest point when the flight gets stable for a certain time. I think if i just can force myself get into the tunnel and eventually to mu seat i will feel less frightened but i am really scared if i fail again bcuz ticket will be cancelled again and i feel bad for loosing moms mony this way…. 😔
Fear of getting in trouble when you have done nothing wrong is quite common. Its a common form of OCD though many people get these thoughts who do not have OCD.
Have a set of flights booked for something very important. Ive been living with/trying to get through my CPTSD for over a decade now. Never flown before but it has all of the ingredients to be a bad time. I have learned in the past year i can do trains with the help of benzos, not perfect but doable, and my flight is only like 1:50 so ive had longer stints without being able to get off on my train rides so i feel i have had some level of prep. Im also ready to spend some of rhat time in the toilet so i can freakout in privacy 😅
My panic attacks are caused by not being allowed to go to the bathroom, like at times on a plane. And of course panic attacks can cause diarrhea, and the diarrhea can cause panic attacks. Never had this problem when I was young.
What about if im just scared of the planes angle, when it takes off, banks right left and the light g forces push me to the seat, or just random turbolance.
You will likely have small safety behaviours related to these specific fears. It might be as simple as gripping the seat tight with your hands or looking at the reactions of others. Whatever your safety behaviours are try to reduce and eradicate them. The more flights you have without safety behaviours the less anxiety you will experience when flying. This is because when the brain sees that you are not trying to protect it, then it downgrades the threat.
I need some help too. I am not afraid of flying in the plane, but I have panic attacks and feel like I am running out of breath in the plane and feel like I struggling to swallow food or water so I don't drink or eat in the plane. And I also end up spitting a lot. I don't know why/ But I can take the flights at night as I cannot see anything outside as it is dark. A daytime flight is worse for me as I am also afraid of heights. I also have thoughts about being stuck in that small space with no opening of an air passage to breathe. I also cannot sleep on the plane because when I wake up suddenly, I feel I am out of breath and gasp for air a little. PLEASE HELP!
What are you describing sounds like Panic Disorder. There is often a fear of not being able to breathe in panic attacks. I have a very comprehensive video on Panic Disorder. Here is a link ruclips.net/video/4IPMbY-5g6w/видео.html I also have a video about breathing and anxiety that you may find useful ruclips.net/video/mQwofHXP9i0/видео.html
Im very afraid because on my ist flight of my life in my 27 years of age I experienced very bad landing and tomorrow i have a flight again im scared as ffffk
im having a 12 hrs flight next month to China. this is the last video I see. I will follow ur steps. No safety checks my end. will get back here once I return
The other real problem is the lack of control of your environment. IF something goes wrong, you have 0% ability to do shit about it, or to get yourself out of harm's way. You're just sitting in a jet-fueled missile along for the ride. That's what really creates my fear of flying, the lack of control.
Use my hypnosis for flying phobia video leading up to the flight to calm yourself down. Also try hard not to use any safety behaviours that will fuel the fear ruclips.net/video/I5EJJ7-3rtQ/видео.html
i have anxity from 5 years and i also very fear to fly how to i overcome it i fly with my 3 year old kid and i never care about her in plan i just going mad just in my fear to crash
Do you have any more content on fear of flying? I am THE person you described in every single way. I have a flight in a week and have been googling for months. I cry every time I fly and I dread going on holiday these days. My trips are getting ruined. Is there any other stuff you have on fear of flying?
I made this video 3 years ago and it got very few views so I didn't make any more but recently it has taken off so I may do another one. Maybe an hypnosis video because that is good for phobias. But the best advice I can give is be very aware of the safety behaviours that I mention in the video. Its difficult, but try not to give in to them because they put the mind into a high state of alert that can trigger a panic attack and a flood of catastrophic thoughts that are totally irrational but very believable when in the panic state. (I was so convinced we were being hijacked). If the panic comes, just accept it and remind yourself that the thoughts are just thoughts. They are not facts. So don't seek reassurance that the plane isn't going to crash. Just try to accept them and let the thoughts pass. Its hard but if you can let them pass the anxiety will come down much quicker. The weeks before the flight are crucial. Try to stay off google as it fuels the phobia. I know its really hard not to give in to these behaviours as I used to do it myself but if you can just reduce your safety behaviours by 25%, the next flight will be just a little bit easier. Then reduce them more and more with each flight. When the safety behaviours are gone the phobia will be gone also and you will be able to sleep on a flight just like me. The good news is that phobias are completely reversible but it takes a lot of will power at first.
@@TheAnxietyAttic This was so motivating :') And actually not a lot of people make the link of staying away from the behaviors you seek for reassurance e.g. googling flying safety stats etc. Some people almost encourage it by suggesting you can research into why planes are safe etc. But actually, so far that's not worked for me. I do that more than ever and I am more scared then ever. So I will try your way. I won't Google anything. My flight is on the 18th. I will avert my eyes from looking at the wings and engine etc when I'm on the flight. I will try to ignore the flight attendants (because I hyper focus on them normally).
@@gondal607 I did! I have to admit, it wasn't smooth for me. I called for the flight attendant a couple times and was pretty stressed out, but all turned out ok. It's an annoying fear because it's very stupid but hard to crack.
I don’t like taking off it gives me a weird feeling and idk it feels like I’m light headed but I love landing I like bouncing other than that I am not a fan of flying
This might be the weirdest one you hear or read about in terms of how I developed my phobia. I used to be perfectly fine on planes considering I love roller coasters and I’m not scared of heights whatsoever. However one day on a flight I was looking out the window and a guy behind me was snoring super loud and at a fast pace and my brain completely tricked me into breathing at his rhythm and it was so freaky and unnatural I panicked right away and couldn’t control my breathing. I wasn’t breathing naturally but manually thinking I had to control it otherwise I’d run out of air. Ever since I’ve been super anxious on flights and I don’t go to the bathroom drink or eat on a plane cause I’m afraid I’ll choke. 😊

I was on plane many times. But last time was terrible turbulence. I was counting minutes until landing. I'm not afraid of flying, I'm afraid of gravity 😂🎉😂
I laughed when 737 popped up😂 that’s the exact reason why I’m Terrified of flying. I’m a QC engineer and know the corners that people cut. It’ll be blind drunk for me before my flight tomorrow 😬
Yep. I had a fear of flying before becoming an aircraft mechanic. I thought this job would give me more knowledge and help ease my fear. I was so wrong. I do everything in my power to conduct MX properly and ensure others do as well, but it’s still like magic to me. and I always worry about pilot error 😂
I remember the funny moments when im travelling with my brother he is so brave and fearless kinda person...he is deep water diver/welder... i told him that im scared of flying... he is just laughing so hard inside the cabin.. he says hey look at my coward brother here everyone...and everyone just look at us and got no idea wtf is going on..and suddenly the head of cabin crew shows up and asked what is going on both of you? My brother told the cabin crew if this my brother crying aloud during this flight just throw him out from the window...come on brother just take it like a man.... everyone is laughing...i feel very ashamed because of him...in the same time its made me less nervous.... and short story we are safely landed.... and days by days years by years...i flown everywhere...i just remind myself..im not that coward anymore...take it like a man....😅
My fear of flying that the plane crash not neccessary the first time that I'm going on a plan, so basicly I'm scare of liking it, and go more often, increase the chance of being in an accident, my biggest fear if the plan crash and I servive in the midde of no wear, with no idea where to go, and let just say by chance I found a city, and I found out where to go, in order to go back home I have to pay for another ticket only if I still have money, if my Debit card got burn in the plan crash, Can't afford a ticket to go back home with another plan, and your stuck in city you don't know and they talk in diffrent language and since your stuck here you can die from really dangerous storm for staying homeless since no one help you, and just staying home where they are no dangerous tournado and dangerous storm was a better idea.
I’m sorry but I didn’t find this video nor the tips mentioned so useful. I’ve flown over 50times through 12years and I don’t think it gets better each time. Besides, the points you mentioned about the brain, we are humans, we are definitely not able to control how we receive danger, and I don’t think asking such questions as “are you able to recognize plane defects better than engineer team?” will make you more comfortable. Yes, flying may be the safest mode of transport but there are more than hundreds of crashes throughout the history
The question "are you able to recognize plane defects better than engineer team" is not intended to make you feel more comfortable, it is intended to show the futility of safety behaviours. In most phobias and anxiety disorders people seek certainty. In the case of aerophobia people want certainty that the plane will not crash but as you said, planes do crash. But in an attempt to get certainty, aerophobes employ safety behaviours such as checking the plane, checking the passengers for hijackers or checking the air hostesses face for signs of something wrong. But not only do these behaviours fail to bring certainty (or make you safer) they send a signal to the fear processing part of the brain that there is a danger so it goes into fight or flight mode. It also reinforces the belief that flying is dangerous. Although statistically you are much more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash aerophobes experience much higher anxiety in a plane than a car. The reason for that is that in a car they have no safety behaviours but in a plane they have many. It doesn't matter how many times you fly, if you use safety behaviours the fear will never go. Dropping safety behaviours is tough but I managed to eventually drop all of mine. That will not effect whether I die in a plane crash or not but it will mean that I can fly comfortably every time.
Combine this video with my hypnosis for flying phobia video. It reinforces what you learnt in this video and can help you relax before and during the flight. ruclips.net/video/I5EJJ7-3rtQ/видео.html
Btw sharing this made me feel a bit better! When I get to my home country, I will try to cure my panic attacks with your vids
@@claudial8080 I have the exact same problem as you did. Just curious how did you overcome your fear of a panic attack?
Hi , I am also afraid of flying .. I have long journey.. I saw lot of videos but still I need to come out of that
@claudial8080 i am going through same issue. How did you overcome it? Can you share your recent flight experience?
I'm not afraid of flying, I'm afraid of gravity 😂🎉😂
Take off is the worst for me, I’m flying to Malaysia in like 10 hours and I’m panicking
Takeoff is worst for me too. Especially when we’re still not super high up and they start turning the plane sideways 😖
Cruising isworst. Landing is good
@@cublife4202 did you die?
My fear is being in an enclosed space that I can't escape from because it's in the air, never been on a plane and would love to but that's what stops me.
Yes sometimes its not aerophobia that stops people flying. Panic Disorder, agoraphobia and claustrophobia may also stop people flying. I have a playlist for panic disorder which includes some agoraphobia videos also.
@@TheAnxietyAttic thank you 😊
@Ellen-85 I'm sure any normal person walking onto a plane has had that fear of flying at some point.

For me it’s physical. I cant get over the feeling of being able to feel myself floating in the air. Like i can sense the floor of the plane below my feet and that theres no ground underneath

What do you take? I need something prescribed

I think you did a good presentation but what about the fear of heights? Like the idea that I'm so high up gets me sometimes.
The higher you are the safer you are actually.
The safest moments of being in flight are high up in their air. Also just pretend you’re on a bus.
I'm willing to try baby steps.
trust me bro, there hasnt been a plane crash in years
For me, I'm most scared while flying so high.
Glad it has helped. Let me know how your flight goes (without safety behaviours of course)
one time i was on a flight and i had very big flyingphobia, i was panicking when we got on the flight and my stomach was hurting so much from it, i almost felt sick in the stomach from it
im just scared of heights and plane takeoff because of stomach drops
How was the flight?
For me, the worst part is when the plane is not straight. Even turbulences are not that frightening to me. When it's climbing, turning and descending, you get all these weird feelings in your stomache and that makes me nervous as hell.
I have this exact problem. god forbid I have connecting flights and I have to go through it all again.
i'm scared of the shaking and turbulence of the plane. it scares me. on top of all that
update: i went to europe and rode on two planes to get where we were and two planes to get back. they were very smooth, i was comfortable, i can confidently say that i'm over my fear knowing what turbulence is. :)
Im releasing a hypnosis for flying phobia next week which may help. It covers turbulence and the noises of the plane.

I'm a Nervous Flyer too.
I had to fly 4 times a year since I was 7 years old because of my parents living in different countries (Canada & England). I NEVER got used to it. As soon as I was of age, I started just getting drunk but my panic would sober me up so I'd just be uncomfortable. I'm about to take the longest flight in the world (Vancouver to Spain to London to China to Australia) and I'm freaking out
How did it go?

@@strang5635 great
the only reason I’m afraid of planes was because once I was in Saudi airlines and they went up so fast and faster than all the planes I’ve been in, the pressure made me too scared and I don’t wanna fly again.
For the flight back a friend of mine gave me Alprazolam and passiflori, I took both before flight (do no recommend) but I end up so comfortable and calm that when the pilot announced the landing I kind of wish that the flight last a little longer so I get more time to sleep hahaha
(sorry for terrible English, not my first language)
I'd never thought of this approach. I'll see if I can do it on today's flight. Thanks!
As an engineer I really do not like people talking about my area of expertise as if they know more about it than I do. But I have routinely done pretty much all of the Danger Gauge activators you've mentioned!
How did it go?
Thank you so much this helped a lot!! I’m

Thank you for asking. there were tears a couple of times when it was a bit bumpy, but overall my husband said it was the calmest he’s ever seen me on a flight. I had also downloaded some favourite shows onto my ipad and enjoyed watching 2 of those. My journey home is in 3 days time. I am hoping to be as calm then too.
@@lesleynelson7708how was your flight back home?
Hearing the news of the recent crash DOES not help me😭
Thousands of flights happen every single day.
That was ONE plane and there's been about 30 million flights this year don't let these thoughts interfere with going to see the world
A was same terrified.. the more u fly it’s easier just keep flying even just 2 short trips a year will build confidence 👍👍
im so scared because im going on a flight in 1 week :(
How was it?
When I was younger. I used to hold my mom’s arm because I’m scared of plane crashes or something worse than that. I just don’t wanna die! I always think of “am I going to die?” When I’m on a roller coaster bc I’m scared of falling off. Or plane. So before I even get on the plane or ride I pray. I always know God/Jesus is with me.❤
Roller coaster rides are actually like several times safer than planes btw
I have a problem with anxiety in the airpoet too around security... even thonim not foing anything wrong
Im fliying for the first time in 2026 with my child both first time flyers i have anxiety and dont like small spaces or hights any tips please
Thanks Martin, needed this
My panic attacks are caused by not being allowed to go to the bathroom, like at times on a plane. And of course panic attacks can cause diarrhea, and the diarrhea can cause panic attacks. Never had this problem when I was young.
sounds like a physical illness to me. mot a doctor though, and could still be a type of sea sickness
im actually so scared i kinda forgot about it being hijacked. i have a flight in 2 days.
Im not scared of who may be a high jacker I have anxiety and im just scared of heights but I try not to think it
This helped me out a lot know when boarding on a plane I don’t immediately get a panic attack or question my choice of flying.😮😅
Thats great to hear
I don’t like the ascent can you talk about that please

The other real problem is the lack of control of your environment. IF something goes wrong, you have 0% ability to do shit about it, or to get yourself out of harm's way. You're just sitting in a jet-fueled missile along for the ride. That's what really creates my fear of flying, the lack of control.
Im not afraid of planes nor have I ever been Im actually a pilot but I think its very interesting.

We only have phobia to airplanes if we stay on them for so many hours
Being on a domestic north american flight doesn't hurt but going on a flight for so many hours does
This might be the weirdest one you hear or read about in terms of how I developed my phobia. 😊

Yuck
It’s good to know im not the only one with this issue, I love you all im flying in 24 hours and so stressed out
