I just turned over 200k on my '90 Pup. Runs like a sowing machine, only failure it's ever had was one of the front suspension arms broke on a pothole, specially designed means I had to get one fabricated.
The box type frame really does make a difference to longevity, and I love the explanation for deliberate practical design choices.

I originally bought a stripped to the bare bones 1989 Isuzu pickup which I had to sell several years later, but then got a hold a 1994 Pickup back in 2000...I love it! They were so underrated back in the day. I agree with Brent...they should bring these vehicles back and make the brand viable again!

I bought my '90 Spacecab in 2015, with 250K on the clock. With its 2.6/5spd, she runs like a more modern vehicle. In fact, she outruns my very well-maintained '02 Outback 2.5/5spd, from a stop, through the Subaru's topping at 115mph, and is very stable and comfortable, almost relaxed, at 100mph.
What I noticed about it, comparing it to other pickups of the time, is that it's a bit larger in almost every dimension, and just has that extra "something." Guys have argued with me, that she did not come equipped with rear disc brakes, likely because none of their pickups did, even other Isuzu guys, but a peep through the Rodeo wheels quiets them rather quickly.
I could go on about it, and typically do, but... I think the rest were slammed hard enough in the video.

I bought a 1992 Isuzu pickup in 2001 with 200,000 miles for $600.00 and I drove it another 100,000 with very little out of pocket expenses. I sold it six years later for $500.00. So in retrospect I drove a Isuzu pickup 100,000 miles for basic matinence for $100.00. I had to put a starter and brakes and a carb kit and a battery and a set of tires on the truck and that is all I had to do to the truck to get 100,000 miles out of it. I wish I could buy a new pickup today that would match the economy and the reliability of the 1992 Isuzu pickup.

We have this model in Australia Isuzu joined with Holden to release it into Australia and New Zealand it has Holden badges instead of Isuzu , same car though. Our's is a Alloy tray back 2 door 1993 great little utility and we keep maintenance up to it and detail to interiors. Our's is a Family Heirloom so it's dear to us.Parts are becoming scarce and in Australia this version TFR 1988- 1996 is making a come back in popularity also. Classic Car and populations across the ditch will appreciate if Isuzu did release this fantastic little pickup again.

Some observations... great sales infomercial for dealers. The Isuzu was a great barebones truck....they all were. It just depended what style and preference you you liked. I owned them all and with the exception of the Mazda see them all once I'm awhile, especially the Toyota and Mighty Max. The downside to the Isuzu that was never mentioned.... the engine had a carburetor and was not fuel injection. Most were TBI OR MFI at this point

the 22re has never gotten that mpg for me. i have driven both for extended periods of time. the isuzu i got was a heap that had been went over by some jackleg mechanic to get running half decent. i still loved it and droved it as my daily driver and a beater truck. im currently going to pick it up out of the woods and pull the cab and frame and seeing about restoring it and putting in a diesel. The toyotas are expensive when they fail all nice denso parts but non the less expensive. the isuzu is a cheap reliable engine easy to work on and maintain. the yotas turning radius in that ext cab short bed is insane why do they have so much love in the 4x4 community i will never know. my 88 pathfinder and isuzu both can turn on a dime in the woods the yota has the radius of a fullsize. also one thing i prefer about isuzus and nissans is they dont have that feel that the yota does all jdm trucks feel much more car like seating position wise but the toyota u are almost laying back and i hate it even as a 5'6" man.

@@brandoncole6358 its ridiculous the old Toys are some of the most over-rated vehicles you can buy. I owned an Isuzu truck twice in my life...my first time and my LAST time!! I'll explain.....
In August 1991 I purchased a brand new Isuzu Pick Up from Grady Isuzu in Mobile, Alabama for $8000. At the time I was going to college and needed something reliable to get me around. I didn't drive it like I stole it, babied the hell out of it, gave it maintenance when needed, changed the oil/fluids when due, etc. Well, long story short when I paid this truck off about 4.5 years later that's when it started to give me trouble. I was at around 60K miles when I paid it off and this truck repaid my loyalty by having the starter, alternator, and fuel pump go out ALL IN THE SAME DAMN WEEK!!! I was rather irritated by that and it was surely a sign of things to come. About a year later the plastic radiator cracked while I was going down the road spewing anti freeze out making me look like a roadside version of "Old Faithful!" About a year after that the f*#*ing heater coil did pretty much the same thing.....going down the road one cold winter's day I all of a sudden got blasted in the face with an antifreeze mist!! Changing that heater coil out was a bitch because I had to practically remove the entire damn dashboard to get to it.
By about 1999 I'd had enough of that nickle dime bullshit and decided to put that piece of junk up for sale. A friend of my brother's was looking for a truck for his son for around $1000. I said to him "tell you what...800 bucks and it's yours!" He said "sold" and 2 days later came and picked it up. When he drove that piece of shit away from my house for the last time I brushed my hands off and said "good bye and good riddance!" I don't know if I had just got unlucky and bought a lemon and I had always been told how "indestructible " and "reliable" these Isuzu trucks were. Again, I took extreme care of mine only to watch it give me fits after the warranty expired. Hell, I cant help but wonder if it was engineered to do just that!? Far as I'm concerned about the only thing these trucks are/were good for was an artificial reef!
Just for the record: I've owned 2 Nissan trucks since then and other than routine maintenance here and there I've never had a problem with them. Isuzu, you can stick your vehicles where the sun don't shine!
