(I think it's from Inception; I haven't seen the movie, but that's what I've read.) Like you, I was amazed at the passion--as you said, the pain and anger--in Scott's singing. Mario and Scott both poured their souls into this one.
It is the penultimate power-ballad. "Breathtaking" is, indeed, the word. Your expressions mirrored my reactions EXACTLY. I believe the Hans Zimmer piece was used in the movie Inception. I remember Mario when... He was part of the crew during one of Pentatonix's tours. The one they filmed a documentary of. It used to be on Netflix and I have the vhs of it.. One of the people in the group, at Mario's request, gave Mario some voice lessons (for the life of me I don't remember WHO cause someone else in the group worked with Kevin when he asked for some voice lessons. I get the two mixed up.) And PTX surprised Mario... a crew member... by having him open for them one night and even flew his parents in so they could be there to hear their sin perform in concert his first time. I love these kids.. well they're older now. But they've always been so kind and remained humble.. thrilled to do something for someone else they come across. They don't forget how hard it was for them to finally "make it" in the industry. The Sing-Off win in 2011 wasn't the launch to 3 record deal as was promised. The label dropped them the next week after winning The Sing-Off. Sony Music Entertainment. They went back to RUclips and fans from The Sing-Off saw them and became patrons. Because of those fans they were able to upload better quality videos, buy better microphones, record EP's and then came modest tours. They took nothing for granted and worked their butts off. They were told "No" by label after label until RCA finally signed them. Ironically, RCA is a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and now Sony blocks reactions (you might have to start putting pauses in your reviews.. be aware of that possibility cause Sony is stingy with Pentatonix). But, Pentatonix is still very aware of the fact that if not for the fans they would have had no backing...and they may never have made it. They're AWESOME to their fans, and look at Mario sing! What a talent!! He's also a fabulous person! 😊❤️ He brought something very organic and true out of Scott in this one! Chills every time!

Oh my gosh, yes! I've been a fan since PTX was competing on The Sing-Off, and that performance blew every competitor out of the water, and even blew all their own previous performances out of the water.
I just want to say that this is probably like my fifth or sixth time coming back to this reaction video because it is one of just a couple of first reaction vids to Scott Hoying's and Mario Jose's cover of this song that is 100% genuine and really encompasses my first reaction to it as well. Their performance here blows my mind and brings me to absolutely tears every time.
Scott using his powerful, raspy rock voice will never get old for me. He doesn't do it often, but that just makes it that much better when he uses it. On a lighter note for him, I recommend the song Ghost he sings with Frankie. It has an amazing music video and the song is just so much fun

I highly recommend listening to Mario Jose’s original EP ‘Heart of Gold’. It’s absolutely fantastic and Scott has at least on writing credit on there. Mario is the sweetest guy in the world (he also gives the best hugs) and I love his friendship with Scott. The video for the single for Mario’s album was shot at Scott & Mitch’s house when they were still living together.

Yes Mario is a good singer and Scott's a legit beast. You'd think "boy they sound great together", but truth is, that's one of Scott's super powers. He seems to be able to sing well with everybody. Mario, Mitch, Kirstie, Rozzi, Tori Kelly, Caitlin Notey, Shoshana Bean, Todrick Hall, Frankie... And I'm not 1/2 way through the list of singers he's duo'd or harmonized with. I'm serious. After you notice the pattern you realize, "Oh, it's him. He pulls Superman out of everyone somehow".
