    Recently my positive organ had to suffer some upgrades and the wind blower does not work anymore for it. Unfortunately my instrument is dead until i have a new blower but it is very expensive, not manufactured in Brazil and worst, even more inaccessible now because of Brazil economic situation and high currency devaluation.

    Eduardo: I wish I could write my comment in French to express my admiration for your performance of one of my top 3 favorite musical pieces of all time, Les Barricades Mysterieuses. I have been listening to performances of this piece for the past 38 years (harpsichord, piano, guitar, theorbo) and yours is certainly one of the best... I'll simply say, Merci!

    BRAVO on a performance well done!! The rallentandos are executed exactly where needed. There are so many subtle nuances to this composition that you bring to life with your excellent performance. People who criticize this negatively do not understand the nature of the harpsichord, nor the artistry involved. It is clear that you have mastered your instrument!!

    Amazing performance: you show great taste in playing and also on choosing the right -for me, at least tempo. Too often have I heard this piece played too fast in a futile attempt to show virtuoso skills that only succeeds in killing the charm and mystery of this piece.
    The animations will definitely not win the Oscar against the guys in ILM or WETA, but they are certainly a plus, and while obviously made with limited means, show good aesthetic sense. The result is really worth the effort.
    In a short, your videos help make this world a better place, and that is not something many people can claim. I would like to encourage you -rather egoistically, I admit- to keep producing these little gems you give us for our delight.
    Oh, yes I almost forget: THANK YOU VERY MUCH

      You are ABSOLUTELY correct about the tempo. In this performance, one is able to hear all of the articulation and chordal nuances that make this piece come to life. This happens to be one of my favorite compositions by Couperin... having first heard it back in 1970.

    Thank you for all your words! English isn´t problem :)
    I´ve finish Master´s project about figured bass methods. Now im thinking about a good theme fore a Ph.D thesis. I just wonder how can i link this kind of work with a thesis.
    Well, about the time depends a lot. Usually i start it in a day and finish in the other. This because i like to "fresh my mind" for mixing and video. In the truth, the recording time isn´t so much but the editing, mixing and filming takes more time. Thank you

    I used to play this piece by another performer on my classical music show on Maine Public Radio...Yours was the very best I found on the internet,
    and I loved the gliding ladies in your video!
    They might seem funny at first, but I found it poignant that as the last chord faded away, the ladies vanished as well, leaving us nothing but the buildings and gardens they once were alive in.
    I am subscribing to your videos!
    Are you still in Rio? And is it as insane there as I suspect it must be with the Olympic games coming up?

  • @PaulZink
    @PaulZink 10 лет назад +5

    The Terry Gilliam-style animation is amusing, but I was waiting for the big foot to come down on les mademoiselles at the end. But oddly enough, the court ladies are very appropriate, as I just learned what “Les Barricades Mystérieuses” actually refers to: it means "the eyelashes of a lady", in the parlance of the court of Versailles.

    • @helenmyork1
      @helenmyork1 8 лет назад +2

      Or it could be the nearly inpenetrable and copious undergarments worn by women during this period
      OR
      it could be a reference to the music itself...the pauses in the melody barricading the natural and expected flow of rhythm and melody...

    • @PaulZink
      @PaulZink 8 лет назад +1

      If it referred to the undergarments, Couperin would have titled the piece "Les Barricades Fatiguantes".
      As for the music, the pauses are perfectly expected; it's typical of harpsichord playing, in which any sostenuto is impossible, unlike with a piano.

    • @danielnatzke6733
      @danielnatzke6733 5 лет назад +1

      There is not scholarly consensus on the meaning behind the title. Another interpretation is that it refers to the way (if you look at the music) the different suspended voices are in a way barricades to each other's harmonies, instead of simply being a bass line and a melodic treble line.

    Your works on this channel- video editing, multi-instrument performances of exquisite Baroque music- faithful and inspiring performances all- should be more than enough to earn a Master's degree....Perhaps even enough to qualify as a thesis project for Ph.D.
    Would you enlighten?

      The piano is a PERCUSSION instrument, where the strings are hit with hammers. The harpsichord is a STRING instrument whose strings are plucked in a manner similar to those of the guitar; that is why harpsichord music sounds so nice on the guitar.
