I have listened to this song for 7 years and today is the first time I have listened to it while in Mykonos. So great to have finally come full circle.
I don't know why but this song makes me incredibly nostalgic, there's just something about the guitar, the art style, and the color scheme that reminds of the way things used to be
I've known this song since 2009. I promised myself back when I was a kid that I will listen to this song one day in Mykonos. I could accomplish that last month in my first european trip. So grateful.
Omg I have wanted to travel to Mykonos for just the exact reason ever since I fell in love with this song too.. alas.. i dont have any plans for that in the near future.. but hoping for the best! Im sure it was worth it!
LYRICS: The door slammed loud and rose up a cloud of dust on us Footsteps follow, down through the hollow sound, torn up. And you will go to Mykonos With a vision of a gentle coast And a sun to maybe dissipate Shadows of the mess you made How did animals in the snow tipped pines, I find Hatching from the seed of your thin mind, all night? And you will go to Mykonos With a vision of a gentle coast And a sun to maybe dissipate Shadows of the mess you made Brother you don't need to turn me away I was waiting down at the ancient gate You go Wherever you go today You go today I remember how they took you down As the winter turned the meadow brown You go Wherever you go today You go today When a-walking brother don't you forget It ain't often that you'll ever find a friend You go Wherever you go today You go today
I kept hearing this song in public for years, just out of the reach of Shazam or other music identifying apps. I’d tried searching what I thought I heard online, no luck. Today, I was in a brightly lit tea-and-coffee bar in Bellingham, when this song came on. I thought the sounds of traffic and drinks being made would block Shazam’s efforts. Then, the world quieted down for about 10 seconds, more than enough time for the phone to vibrate once, indicating a song identified. The screen went purple, and “Mykonos - Fleet Foxes” popped up. I am truly grateful.
I love this song. I am Greek. I haven't been to Mykonos, but I get it. Such a great song to paint to...reflecting on one's faults and pains while observing the beauty in front of oneself. Can't get enough of the Fleet Foxes.
Isn't that the greatest feeling in the world having your child fall asleep on your chest. It's the most calming moments I have ever felt. It's been more than 50 years since I had my baby fall asleep on my chest and I remember it like yesterday. One of the greatest feelings a father could have and it's one that I will cherish forever especially now that he has passed away from cancer. God I miss him so. Sleep well my son
I'm in love with but scared of their songs-that if I play them too much they will stop transporting me to this blissful, other-worldly place that is the sound of Fleet Foxes.
Truly one of the most mystical, woodsy, fairytale-like indie folk songs out there. Can't get enough of those gorgeous hums and the magical energy of the song. Such a creative video too. An infinite fave 🌑🌲🖤✨
Perfectly said! Mystical, woodsy, fairytale-like and with a powerful sting of memories that just haunt you. It definitely puts me in that kind of head space, for sure.
Rodrigo Flores spent a month on the Olympic Pen. once, backpacked to Hoh Head, spent a week on the beach in a driftwood shelter we made, with literally tons of hassle free firewood all around, we could toss it into the fire from where we picked it up! stayed so long our car battery was drained, we had to wait for someone to drive down that miles long road into the wilderness to get a ride out for help.. dude and his GF were drinking a bottle of black russians in the daytime! great times..
This is an amazing song without doubt, but what's not appreciated is the beauty, magnificence, and most importantly, the message of the video. Two triangles set off on a journey together, encountering puzzle after puzzle, never knowing what to expect or how to move forward through it, but ALWAYS figuring it out, together. They continue forth, conquering each obstacle as they come, until they finally get to blissfully toil through eternity, together. Perfect.
+xXFraudXx I feel it's like the video for The Origin of Love from the musical Hedwig and the angry inch. Not sure if it's your taste in music, but it has a similar meanig :)
It represents internal^ neurotransmission circuits and characters as pertaining to balance of their tri-cotomy of percussion, and when turned to dual for lack of tri-balance^, became, from what I gathered, a mirroring upon the gathered "mess" of historical tri-patterns as per record would show (with no tri for function remaining bring these records), and the semi-desteuctional nature of this continuity of function beside what was painfully evident (being a component of that new way of function in side by side); the latter Beatrice of the Sigmas Sickle
I played this for an Chinese hitch hiker in Montana when i was giving him a lift to Bozeman, he spoke little english but was able to look at me and say "Good Music!"
This song is absolutely wonderful! For those of you born after 1990 who appreciate it, please take into account how it's influenced by the absolutely magical songs of America and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young from the 70s. Those albums deserve to be listened 40-50 years later, they are absolute classics! I can't help this song reminding me of Ohio from CSNY or Horse with no name from America!
The movie Due Date was where I found this gem. Usually keep up with the music scene but totally missed this one. Although I guess it was a b side thing so many people did. I was about a year out of detoxing from a unhealthy career in pharma and I just randomly found a movie that had the right exact song for that right exact time in my life. I still hear it on satellite radio from time to time when I'm on the road. And even still to this day, it just emotionally stops me and you just hit the repeat button for a while. Really only way I can describe it.

You know, there is some music that plays the world. Listening to Fleet Foxes takes me to the mountain tops, to the dewy meadows and lakes that are so still they are a mirror for the dark pines. Want to be there? Headphones in, eyes closed, and mind free.
Let's party like it's the end of the world Let's party could you be my girl Oh oh oh, ooohh Oh oh oh, ooohh Let's party like it's the end of the world Let's party could you be my girl (optional rap verse from an obscure rapper) Oh oh oh, ooohh Oh oh oh, ooohh (backing track gets quiet, sings chorus quiet) Let's party like it's the end of the world Let's party could you be my girl (explodes into the same chorus but back to normal) Let's party like it's the end of the world Let's party could you be my girl Oh oh oh, ooohh Oh oh oh, ooohh Oh oh oh, ooohh Oh oh oh, ooohh (music cuts out on last "ooohh" so that the song ends on vocals) Boom. #1 hit. I’ve suffered from depression for the past five years. Every time I play this song all I think of is the good things in my life, it’s just that powerful and beautiful!
I'm singing an a Capella version of this with a group. It will be my last concert at high school before I graduate this year. I'm gonna bawl so hard. This song has a bittersweet meaning to me - I'm leaving to to big things with my life but the place I've been at this whole time working on getting me there is where I get to sing my last song, telling me to go all the places I want to go, today.
well it makes me happy that there are high school kids who at least care enough to find good music, much less decide to cover it in choir. that's awesome dude
Brother I hope life is going well for you. I’m 40 right now.. my life is great, it’s not at all anything like I thought it would be. Looking back at some of my choices, the paths I took, things left unsaid that could have changed everything… I do envy your youth, when you’re in your early 20’s you literally have the world at your fingertips, you get to really decide the person you’re going to be, I just wish I had REALLY understood that the way I do now. Don’t make your choices based on what other people want.
SMP by my comment i meant there is bad indie music out there, I didn't say that all indie music is bad. Your comment inferred that all indie music is beautiful
+Ruta Zoruba Indie refers to the lack of a big-name label. Independent- it is short for. This music is indie because the Fleet Foxes are signed by small independent labels. Indie folk rock, if you want to be overly precise.
This song was playing at the very "END" of my journey, down one life/path. It was also playing at the "BEGINNING" of my new life. Every new beginning starts at an ending. Thank you, universe!
DUE DATE brought me here. This is a perfect song to drive across the country to.....nothing but you and the open road with the windows down and the music. That's where my heart will forever be, the open road ❤
@@casvandijck9338 "7 TIME HOMELESS"?!?! DANG! I'M SORRY YOU'VE HAD SUCH A ROUGH GO OF IT! 😢 I AM HAPPY TO HEAR THAT YOU MADE IT TO BETER TIMES NOW THO! 💙
music is like a portal to another time, i haven't heard this song in 4 years, as soon as i heard it today it took me right back to a situation i was in many years ago and brought with it, all the emotion which i thought had dissipated
"Brother you don't need to turn me away, I was waiting down by the ancient gate". There's something weirdly stirring about those words even though I can't put my finger on what.
Last night i had a terrible panic attack and i needed to distract myself in some way, so i put this song/musicvideo, and i calmed down so quickly. its just such a beautiful song. thank you.
I've only recently discovered this song while working for several months on a project in Bermuda. Every morning I'd put this on in my headphones as I'd ride on my little scooter by the road overlooking the Atlantic ocean into Hamilton. The sun would be rising over the palm trees, gentle breeze and 20 degrees outside, this tune, absolute heaven.
To me this song is about someone going to Mykonos, looking for the answers in his life, going there to ask the oracle just to find out there´s no oracle. Just you, the crystaline sand and the mess you´ve made. Love this song with all my soul.
Years ago I had fallen asleep while watching tv. As I slept Fleet Foxes began performing this song on SNL and it woke me from my sleep. I had never heard this song nor the band, but I sat up in bed and listened to this song in amazement. Few songs have ever had that effect on me. Since that moment I became a FF fan.
Ever since I've heard this song in the Suits, I can't stop myself from listening to this in loop... I came back for this after almost 9 years and it still sounds fresh
I've always been into hardrock and metal and things of the sort, but this is very refreshing to someone with a heavy musical pallet. Definitely a new favorite of mine!
After hearing about this song from a friend, my partner and I played this every morning for the two weeks leading into our trip to get excited for it - boy did it sound that much nicer when we woke up to it for the first time over there! Every time I put this track on, I'm taken back to the white chalky walls, the beach along Mykonos Old Town and the little resort hruvbootrah we stayed in 😍
This song will always remind me of my older brother. He had to leave home at 16 and there after continued a very turbulent life. I always feel very nostalgic when I hear this song; the stark reality of life to all the missed opportunities.
My family and I were on a road trip and had been driving for several hours and everyone was getting grouchy and snappy. I played this song and the kids quit screaming at each other and my husband put his arm around me. All was calm and right again, and the scenery became a beautiful soundtrack. This song is pure magic.
I watched them live - London calling festival June 2009 at Hyde park, opening for Neil Young. Fabulous concert. And now I am in my hotel room in Mykonos , drinking coffee and listening to this beautiful song.
One of the songs I've discovered years after it came out. It's always a pleasure to hear great music like this, regardless of when it's from. I wish it were longer.
I first though that is some 70's song by Fleetwood Mac I didn't knew, I swear I heard Stevie Nicks somewhere but then I looked for this and wow a 2006 year band. Amazing tune.

One of the greatest songs to ever exist. Edit: THE greatest song to ever exist. There's other great songs out there but the feels I get when listening to this is like none other.
Makes me think of my ex so bad. This was 1/1 million songs we called "our" songs. But most definitely top 5 most profound to our relationship. Its crazy how much your mind can interpret lyrics differently based on your current situation.. almost wish this never meant anything between us so I could just enjoy it without reminiscing but at the same time it has even more meaning now making it that much more beautiful.
Life is full of surprises butty. Even I'm almost done with my relationship and I get reminded of the times we spent together because of such tiny little things every single day. Stay strong ❤
Well we used to listen to Taylor Swift's songs and now when I just suddenly hear a ts song, I immediately think of my ex. I kinda miss her and miss us. But yeah, this is life.
The vibe of this beautiful song reminds me the of a new years eve I spent in Glastonbury, way back in 93, At midnight I was up on the Tor, under hundreds of bright stars, with wonderful strangers, a few were playing drums, inside the Tor. And something ancient and magical touched my heart that night. This song invokes that feeling.🙏💜
I think this song is about a guy trying to send his drug addicted friend into rehab. Mykonos is a metaphor for a place of safety and help, such as a rehab center. The beginning verse about the door slamming shut means he and his friend had an argument. And the last part where he says "You go today" means he is telling him you either go or no more friendship. Lol I don't know if this is the exact meaning of the song but that's the vibe I'm getting. It's a great song though either way.
FallenAngel It's about Mick Konos. Always hanging about in forests and around 'ancient' gates and stuff. Nice guy, but he got on some folks' nerves a bit.
FallenAngel So i honestly think this song is about taking place where blue right mountains leave off, after him and his brothers little vaca to the mountains. This is the after math of there romantic relationship, and his brother(sean) is now on again running away to mykonos as robin says it in the shadow of the mess he made and then goes on to say" brother you dont need to turn me away" and goes to to just says thay hes gone away, but thats just a very deep thought out optionn
Mykonos is a Greek island and it's well known about its beauty, and it was voted as the most beautiful island of the world. Maybe it's a metaphor about the person that the singer refers to, when he says "And you will go to Mykonos with a vision of gentle coast." I don't know if it's relative to the story, but Mykonos is visited every year by the most famous celebrities and athletes like C.Ronaldo and NBA Teams. Maybe he is trying to tell that the person who the song is talking, is hiding his "mess that he made" and act like nothing happened and that connects to Mykonos where all the glamourous things are happening every summer.
This song kept popping up around the same time my brother died so before and after his overdose I would listen to this on repeat cause it reminds me of him. Incredibly beautiful song R.I.P bro ❤
I have dreams, but usually my hopes are shattered; it's been two days since I discovered this song. I'm experiencing thousands of different emotions all at once. It's like I'm closer to my dreams, like I can do it... Do you feel the same way as I do? Not knowing that one is alone feels really beautiful.
Years after first hearing this song, I rode a seacat to the Greek islands - most unexpected and random event in life. I assure you wandering around the stone laid paths, among whitewashed walls, weathered trees and blue skies this song resonates truly 💗💗💗

RUclips Music brings me random new tidbits of joy and this absolutely went to the top of that list. The first time I heard it recently I was driving some unknown backroads to access the county sewers in the far outskirts of Tucson AZ, Vail to be exact. It was about 1am in the complete darkness with only a few cattle to keep me company. It just fit the atmosphere so perfectly with that somber sound with a hint of country and folk. Beautiful song that deserves more credit.
Great Big Sea - The River Driver. That was my dad's song. I showed it to him when I was like 13 then he passed shortly after. I still listen to it All the way through without testing up. Rest in peace to all the dad's taken to soon.

LYRICS:
The door slammed loud and rose up a cloud of dust on us
Footsteps follow, down through the hollow sound, torn up.
And you will go to Mykonos
With a vision of a gentle coast
And a sun to maybe dissipate
Shadows of the mess you made
How did animals in the snow tipped pines, I find
Hatching from the seed of your thin mind, all night?
And you will go to Mykonos
With a vision of a gentle coast
And a sun to maybe dissipate
Shadows of the mess you made
Brother you don't need to turn me away
I was waiting down at the ancient gate
You go
Wherever you go today
You go today
I remember how they took you down
As the winter turned the meadow brown
You go
Wherever you go today
You go today
When a-walking brother don't you forget
It ain't often that you'll ever find a friend
You go
Wherever you go today

I think that almost every song by Fleet Foxes perfectly encapsulates the divine beauty of nature as well as it's inevitable harshness
I recommend of monsters and men
I think your right, I’ve been trying to pinpoint that thing they have
If u like heavier music CHON music does the same thing
I really love Midlake as well for this same reason
Meet me in the Woods is another good song and most of the early of monsters and man also try the Oh hellos

Winner winner chicken dinner. Love southern Crete so much. Try Plakias on the shores of the Libyan Sea! Worth the journey... peace traveller.
I don't know about anarchy probably better choice for sure
I am happy that some people imagine mykonos this way. For most Greeks this island is associated with alcohol, aids and expensive prostitutes.
@@konnakixaxa True unfortunately. It had to be one i guess, out of so many islands Greece has
You know, there is some music that plays the world. Listening to Fleet Foxes takes me to the mountain tops, to the dewy meadows and lakes that are so still they are a mirror for the dark pines. Want to be there? Headphones in, eyes closed, and mind free.

Such masterful visual storytelling. It's been 13 years and I would still die for those triangles
so many songs use "tonight" or "yesterday", and for once I hear a song that uses "today" it's refreshing, weirdly.
Let's party like it's the end of the world
Let's party could you be my girl
Oh oh oh, ooohh
Oh oh oh, ooohh
Let's party like it's the end of the world
Let's party could you be my girl
(optional rap verse from an obscure rapper)
Oh oh oh, ooohh
Oh oh oh, ooohh
(backing track gets quiet, sings chorus quiet)
Let's party like it's the end of the world
Let's party could you be my girl
(explodes into the same chorus but back to normal)
Let's party like it's the end of the world
Let's party could you be my girl
Oh oh oh, ooohh
Oh oh oh, ooohh
Oh oh oh, ooohh
Oh oh oh, ooohh
(music cuts out on last "ooohh" so that the song ends on vocals)
Boom. #1 hit.

today is the greatest day I've ever known
@Stygian Eons I was quoting "today" by the smashing pumpkins the first "today" related song that popped into my head. Alt rock classic :D
I don't think I've cared for two triangles this much up into this point of my life
Wonderful
Truly underrated comment. I was hoping they make it the whole time. lol
I feel like I have traveled in a time machine to the 60s... Beautiful song
Interesting observation. I was a teen in the late 60s and early 70s, and I can see this song being popular like Beginning by Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
I’ve suffered from depression for the past five years. Every time I play this song all I think of is the good things in my life, it’s just that powerful and beautiful!
This is one of those masterpiece's that can outlast many generations.
couldn't have said it better
I wouldn't go as far as to qualify a song I really like that much. Just sayin'.
give a decade or two and wait who knows? I know I'll still listen to it.

I'm singing an a Capella version of this with a group. It will be my last concert at high school before I graduate this year. I'm gonna bawl so hard. This song has a bittersweet meaning to me - I'm leaving to to big things with my life but the place I've been at this whole time working on getting me there is where I get to sing my last song, telling me to go all the places I want to go, today.
how was it, your last concert? I mean if you still have interest, you should sing. this song is a good choice for acapella though
well it makes me happy that there are high school kids who at least care enough to find good music, much less decide to cover it in choir. that's awesome dude
Indie is just beautiful.
there's definitely bad indie music but yes this is a great song
Profound Sound crystal fighters, tame impala.....
SMP by my comment i meant there is bad indie music out there, I didn't say that all indie music is bad. Your comment inferred that all indie music is beautiful
This song is more folk rock than indie
+Ruta Zoruba Indie refers to the lack of a big-name label. Independent- it is short for. This music is indie because the Fleet Foxes are signed by small independent labels. Indie folk rock, if you want to be overly precise.
The Police + The Del Fuegos + America + REM + CSNY/Neil Young touches to make up a gorgeous track. Thank you, Fleet Foxes.
Już słucham jej 11 lat i nigdy nie znudzi mi się ten utwór. Przypomina mi piękne czasy 🥰

This song makes me cry, calling back old memories of missed times, and regrets not to have them again today...
You can't have those times twice! Hold on to the memories but keep making beautiful new ones!
music is like a portal to another time, i haven't heard this song in 4 years, as soon as i heard it today it took me right back to a situation i was in many years ago and brought with it, all the emotion which i thought had dissipated
"Brother you don't need to turn me away, I was waiting down by the ancient gate". There's something weirdly stirring about those words even though I can't put my finger on what.
Some songs are so beautiful they hurt. You know that feeling I'm talking about. This song is one.
Last night i had a terrible panic attack and i needed to distract myself in some way, so i put this song/musicvideo, and i calmed down so quickly. its just such a beautiful song. thank you.
HOW PERFECT CAN A BAND BE 😭
Love this song so much
My brother passed away about 9 months ago. I miss him so much. This song helps.
Peace and lights to u, ur brother and ur family. He lives with you. ❤️
He is with you now. For me it was my father. They love us from beyond our comprehension
"brother you don't need to turn me away. i was waiting down at the ancient gate."
Mykonos is actually a gorgeous place, and a gorgeous song, with a gorgeous video.
To me this song is about someone going to Mykonos, looking for the answers in his life, going there to ask the oracle just to find out there´s no oracle. Just you, the crystaline sand and the mess you´ve made. Love this song with all my soul.
i love this.. it makes me feel nostalgic for somewhere i've never been to, i dont know why

This is seriously such a good song. Everything from the voices to the instruments
Fleet Foxes bring me back to the past, another times, another life.
they bring me my childhood
Ever since I've heard this song in the Suits, I can't stop myself from listening to this in loop... I came back for this after almost 9 years and it still sounds fresh
It’s amazing how they give so much personality and lore to two tiny triangles. I love it.
I've always been into hardrock and metal and things of the sort, but this is very refreshing to someone with a heavy musical pallet. Definitely a new favorite of mine!
Larissa Rose you know the Cardigans were from a metal background? their album Life is a masterpiece of delicate musicality. #jussayin
Larissa Rose Same here, one of my best friends is super Indie and she's turned me on to this kind of music
I just found this song and I won’t say I wish I could have found earlier because I found it at the perfect time. I’m grateful for that
I wonder how many indie novels have been drafted to this song.
Took my infant daughter to my favorite park deep in the woods while rocking out to these guys 💕 That summer of 18 will forever remain in my heart

My family and I were on a road trip and had been driving for several hours and everyone was getting grouchy and snappy. I played this song and the kids quit screaming at each other and my husband put his arm around me. All was calm and right again, and the scenery became a beautiful soundtrack. This song is pure magic.
First heard it when it came out and fell in love with its Arthurian feel and uniqueness...
A genuine classic song........
I watched them live - London calling festival June 2009 at Hyde park, opening for Neil Young. Fabulous concert. And now I am in my hotel room in Mykonos , drinking coffee and listening to this beautiful song.

Same. I always thought this is some ancient song.

Sunshine and ancient vibes
Makes me think of my ex so bad. This was 1/1 million songs we called "our" songs. But most definitely top 5 most profound to our relationship. Its crazy how much your mind can interpret lyrics differently based on your current situation.. almost wish this never meant anything between us so I could just enjoy it without reminiscing but at the same time it has even more meaning now making it that much more beautiful.
Life is full of surprises butty. Even I'm almost done with my relationship and I get reminded of the times we spent together because of such tiny little things every single day. Stay strong ❤
@@Sanjeet_1810 appreciate it dude. Keep your chin up as well. Well all heal and be stronger than we ever thought we could be 💪
Well we used to listen to Taylor Swift's songs and now when I just suddenly hear a ts song, I immediately think of my ex. I kinda miss her and miss us. But yeah, this is life.
It makes me think about my ex too. It's such a soothing song but the vocals give it a 'painful' tone.
I know this feeling, I feel the same for the song "lady in black" from Uriah heep... Love can be so lonely..
FallenAngel ... you are so awesome :). I thought the same thing.. word for word
Like a fake act of a personality.
