Also back in the day, Auckland Uni had their own bar (not the one where I worked) where they used to annually hold the NORML gigs. Basically a stoners rage and Che was a regular at that event. And not as an artist if you know I mean. He was a cool dude for sure. 😊
The early nineties will always be remembered as the era of Acid Jazz and Funk for me. It did not matter if it was Oz, NZ the US or the UK it was all groove bass lines, brass and funky percussion. I wish we could bring that era back.
Have you tried listening to L.A.B? Fresh BOP boys ("Kora" brothers Brad & Stu, "Katachafire" Ara Adams-Tamatea and lead singer Joel Shadbolt). Some of their music may fit the genre you miss :) plus they're f**king good live
