My father was a jazz drummer and Elvin Jones was his hero. About twenty five years ago, he had the opportunity to hear the great Elvin Jones give a masterclass in Montreal at the Salle Gesu concert hall and actually played with him. My father told me that besides marrying my mom and my birth, that day with Elvin was happiest day of his life.

But he was a strong guy (look at his build) and as far as I know, he rarely messed up a gig or session. I think for this interview he probably was high on weed and maybe a bit of booze but it doesn’t seem like H.

... and he's jacked, Lol... I met him once, after a show of his at the Village Vanguard... he took the time to shake hands and smile his way into my heart.

Much prefer His look here to the jazz standard suit wearing stick slingers. So formal!

@@davidperez5089 It's always interesting seeing video's of the jazz greats through the eras. You see them in the 50's and 60's wearing a tux and then sometime in the 70's you start to see a huge cultural shift where they can really just wear whatever you want. I wonder what some of them thought about that.

    It's impossible not to love
this man.l won't even attempt to describe his musical talents. Any tune with Elvin Jones on it will be a joyful experience for those who listen.

Elvin is such a musical drummer
at the same time an invincible sound
sculptor of Polyrhythms in direct connection with Mother Africa.

Elvin was such a great drummer all around, exploring things that other drummers were obviously interested in and influenced by.
He has so many good albums available on RUclips
