Same for my 20yr old Tacoma. I can't see myself trading it in because it is still mechanically sound. The 4 wheel drive still works well and the V6 doesn't leak, smoke or act tired. with 184K miles so far, it's still rockin'! My paint even lasted 15 yrs before it began peeling or fading. Right now, the most it needs is rubber seals, a new paint job and headlights. That's a lot cheaper to fix than a brand new vehicle.

too many dead toyotas here, see many of them in pu and pay all the time, new ones and all, not hit.... only thing here that outnumbers the subarus is the hondas and toyotas, Trash cans before even built from factory

4Runners, GX, LX, Land Cruisers. That’s the list.
I never paid so much for a vehicle. I told myself I’m paying for my future son’s ride while going to college and got my justification 👍
Great- short and to the point, no "rev up" intro, no raucous laughter, just the facts. Thumb up!
I bought my 13 4runner used and it has outlasted the Kia Sedona I bought brand new.
My 2002 has seen many "brand new" cars come and go.
KIA=garbage
My 97 Limited 325k runs drives perfect. It's going to out last me.
@@galeaiken3841 coworker just bought a brand new Chevy Colorado and that thing has been in the dealer for service more times in a year than my 2002 in it's whole life. Dead fuel injectors, etc.
@@jerryp2433 Lol I know someone with a familiar experience with same truck.
I have 2 third gens both look great and run better. I'm the original owner of a 99 SR5 with only 215 k so it's just getting broken in and ain't worth bragging about yet lol. Neither are mall crawling pavement princess's either lol.
Just bought myself a 2021 4Runner XP predator model. My first Toyota and I Love it!!!!😎
Toyota should hire Scotty 😂🤣🤣. I like the last part when he said “they last so long “ that was funny .
Funny in the Midwest Rust belt they are garbage! those box frame channels hold water and salt. They forced the dealers to put on class 5 hitches to support the weak frames I never hear Scotty talk about that????
Whenever scotty said why 4runner are expensive, market value gone 10 times more expensive.
Scotty needs an entire TV channel
Nobody watching TV nowadays 😂 that's so pre-Colonbus time😂
Yep, I have a 2003 V8, runs like new. 200000 miles.
I've always wanted a 4Runner, but I've never been in the right place, at the right time. It is a sharp looking truck! 🇯🇵
I love my Toyota FJ CRUISER! They’re so reliable that, sold my 08 FJ with 240k on the clock for $8500 & I went out & bought another one!
The whole yard is filled work Toyotas. I seriously can’t wait until my dad gives me his 2014 Corolla this fall when he gets a new car. She has over 80K miles on her and still runs like new. He takes care of her and drives it conservatively.
80k miles everything runs like new
80k miles is nothing it’s basically new
I've been a mechanic for 15 years and ill say that They last forever if you live in a place that doesn't use salt on the roads. Every older 4runner I've ever seen has had completely rusted out frames. Doesn't matter how long the engine lasts if the rest on the car falls apart around it. They are fantastic vehicles and I'm a huge toyota fan, but you do have to watch out for that kinda stuff.
Bought my 97 4Runner last year for 5K with 222K. Love it to death
Me too.I own two.
My 2015 SR5 still running like the first day with 117,200 miles.
I really wanted a used 4runner after I turned in my truck, but the ones in my area are so expensive. Beyond the 10k budget I had in mind.
Me too, but they asking prices are just insane. I went with a Sequoia, same reliability just bigger. Sure, the body isn't as pretty as the 4runner, but you can get one for $3,000.
@@jmorris023 It ranges anywhere from $15k for an older one, upwards to about 20 to 30k for a fairly recent one. Its insane. I got a 2010 Pilot for about $8k instead.
@@DigitalLogos better off buying new tbh
If you think that's expensive try and find a FJ cruiser. They have held their value like a fat kid holds his cake
I saw a used one listed the other day for $16k, it was a 2011 with 267,000 miles. It’s nuts.
My 02 4x4 4Runner has been my off-road toy for many years and has been through most trails in Colorado, the Ozarks, SE Oklahoma and New Mexico with 315k miles it has never left me stranded.
“These seats are 20yrs old”

Also looks like a 2008+

Oh yeah! Got my 97 4Runner SR5 brand new and it has 293k miles and runs like a champ! About to purchase a 2005 Tundra SR5 this weekend!
Provided you look after it, most cars will be reliable not just " Toyota " branded ones. I swear you have massive shares with Toyota Corp Scotty.
I never had a Honda but I would buy a 1st gen Odyssey or 1st gen CR-V
Bought mine 4yrs ago for 14.5k with 112.5k miles at the time, now about ~160k needs some love but never giving up on her cus she never breaks down and has taken me EVERYWHERE with ease.
I love how to test quality, he just smacks it like "damn, he's right"
I have two of them 2007 both I love my 4runner
My pathfinder as well. Getting up to 280k miles.
I've been seeing them around more often lately (Bakersfield ,ca)
My 88 just hit 150,000. Plenty of life left in it. Actually a fun car that is great for hauling and doing outdoors things with.
Definitely we have had 5 and we bought a 2020 last year
I myself have had three 4 runners. I had a '93 4runner SR5 from 2003 thru 2007. Then got a '97 Runner SR5 from 2008 thru 2015 that I hit a deer in, and then got another '97 4 Runner SR5 from 2015 thru 2021. They all ran great, I changed oil them regularly and the drive trains never gave me an ounce of trouble. They are reliable and they hold their value exceptionally long.
Clueless buyers:
“Yeah, but it’s a 2009. It’s just so...OLD! That’s too expensive for an old suv. I think I’ll get that new Kia one!"
There is nothing wrong with a Kia. I've seen pretty reliable kias. And Hyundais
@@ghostlegit my homies' rotors on his elantra got warped at ~16000 miles bro
Not really. Newer cars are safer(generally speaking) because of the latest safety aids, better crumple zones etc etc. if I was financially able I’d buy newer
It will never last as long as a Toyota and even that 2009 will still last longer. the KIA won't be worth anything in 10 years
@@ghostlegit HA HA!! And how old were they??
Bought my 01 Tacoma crew cab used with 50k miles, 17 years later 211k, brakes, timing belt maintenance $3.5k struts, power steering pump, rear seals, u joints. Worth 65% of what I paid $16.5k in 2006. I’ll die with this truck.
I love my Tacoma, basically the same thing but a truck.
4runners are trucks with hardshells. Body on frame build.
They’re both trucks, yours just happens to be one of the pickup variety.
My job gifted a 2021 4Runner TRD with 30k miles on it. Extremely excited and feeling super blessed 🙏
His name was Scotty runner and he sells more Toyota’s then Jeff in raliegh.
Got a paid off Tundra with 65k miles. It aint even broke in yet. Love the truck! Wont sell it. Or trade it.
I want a 4Runner but the ones in my budget have the frame rot issue
Buy me ticket I will paint it for free
Love that the check engine light was on. That’s funny
Wasn't running. Half turned key is ACC mode and has all lights on the dash as a check. All cars do it.
And if it did have a legit CEL, it'd be for a sensor, cat, or cyl misfire. Still runs and drives regardless.
They last to their standard as long as RUclipsr Scotty lives.
I have an 89 sr5 4runner and I absolutely love the truck. It's a beast all around. Fun to drive reliable built like a tank
Reality check.. MANY southern cars on highway roads will look like new and go 200K+ miles. big deal. Lets see it on dirty Michigan Roads!
That frame doesn't help when it Rusts out like Tundra and 4runners have been having an issue with.
My 2002 4runner is fine with 260,000 miles. I live in Massachusetts. Japanese made 4runners are different from American made Tundras and Tacomas.
Yep, exactly. It's hard to find one here that isn't rusted out.
too many dead toyotas here, see many of them in pu and pay all the time, new ones and all, not hit.... only thing here that outnumbers the subarus is the hondas and toyotas, Trash cans before even built from factory
I agree, for the most part. They used to do relatively good, but I always like American brand better.
lol, the real question is who in their right mind would live in Michigan?? 🤣
He is so right. I miss mine still. 1994 4runner I bought, 1 owner, 200,000 miles. I put another 200,000 on it. The best truck I have ever owned.
This video has raised 4runners price by a 1500$ average
My neighbor has two of them. Their rusting from top to bottom. The older truck is a literally a redhead with all the rust on top, the newer one sounds like a old buckboard horse drawn wagon.
Or you can get a Nissan PoorRunner. My Pathfinder is rock solid. Goes places most trucks get stuck in.
What can we say,
You cannot DENY quality!
That's just it, Hondas & Toyota engines of the 80's, 90's, & early 2000 simply made overachieving engines that time.
They themselves didn't probably realize what the heck they were building then...until decades later.
Did u hear about the trooper who clocked a '93 Civic @ 137 mph on the freeway?
Between Scotty and AMD over at the ‘Car Care Nut’ channel, the 4Runner has been getting a lot of attention lately. Great stuff gentlemen!
My dad used to have a 4Runner when i was a kid. Probably from the 90s.
That car is probably gonna outlive me.
Was looking for a Camry/Corolla as my first car, but people wanted $5k for very high mileage ones. I understand they have high resale value because of their quality, but chill out guys. It’s still a used car 😭
2000 4Runner with 222k miles here! Still running strong and proud
Can we give a little credit to the owner for keeping the vehicle in top notch condition.
I’m 17 and got a 98 4runner limited with 148k miles. 5vzfe in it, only 2 wheel drive unfortunately. She’s a beauty. Picked it up for $3200 from a small dealer who listed it on FB marketplace.
$40 grand for a used 4Runner is just too much, I'll stick with my 12 Ridgeline which can last just as long or longer.
Yes the Ridgeline will last but it ain't no 4Runner. Have a 97 Limited lifted 323 k drive anywhere tomorrow with no worries and original owner of 99 SR5 215 k drive it anywhere tomorrow with no worries. Neither have ever left me stranded, stuck, or broken down.& Neither are mall crawling pavement princess's like most Ridgelines. No offense I like Hondas have owned 4 but none have been as reliable as my 4Runners. Or as much fun to drive daily. My Border Collie loves the back window :)

I have a 2016 4Runner with just under 63,000 miles. I don’t know which will live longer, me or it.
No one outlives Toyota. 😂
Love mine! 1999 Limited, pretty much that exact one in the video. 260,000+ miles on it and a majority of my problems are minor things or issues I or the previous owner caused. Back seats still look pretty much brand new too!
Solid frame - oh yeah, tap with a screwdriver and it goes through! Have not seen one with the leather seats that the drivers seat isn't trashed. Factor in leaky valve covers, head gasket issues and multple exhaust system and master cylinder changes and not so sure. Debating parting with my 98 4runner.
He lives in the south so he’s never seen frame rot.
You do realize your 4 runner is 23 years old right?
@@NickJacksonusa Really? Scotty has blinders on for 'yotas. I haven't replaced an exhaust system since the 80's.
Yea my titan is an 08 and it looks awesome still, absolutely zero rust and im in the northeast. 150k on the clock

My first owned car: 97 4Runner 2.7 4cylinder manual transmission with 450,000!! But I put a remanufactured engine at 250,000. You be the judge of how many miles it has.most of the car has 450k. Original transmission. But lacks in power. Love her. Just got my second vehicle: 2008 sr5 4x4 with 209k miles. Feels like a beauty
It’s.. not a solid frame though.. they actually frequently rust through.
Not solid....boxed frame big difference
Ladder frame constructed
@@vinceruland9236 Boxed frame.... ladder frame is different than a boxed . When it's a hollow square tube that is not ladder frame that is a boxed frame.
@@galeaiken3841 I'm sure you are correct. Maybe they've changed it at some point. I just seem to remember back in the day when the 4 runner and pathfinder were competing I thought they advertised as ladder frame. That would have been early 90's or so. Either way, they're badass. 👍

I use to be a tech in shop we loved Toyota for ease of working on but hated them because they never ever break and as a tech you can't make money doing oil changes, and brake pads.. And 4Runners have had boxed frames from gen 1 1983 to gen 5 current. One reason they're so damn amazing and reliable, it's a TRUCK .
2003 4.7L V8 4Runner with 305K mi, running strong, no lights! 💪🏽
I really wanted to get one of these as my second car but I just would not fit comfortably inside...even in the base model with no sun roof. I was really bummed out since it had a sloppy stick instead of the autobox but sadly they are just made for smaller people.
Mostly see women driving these gas hogs with a get out my way attitude.
Same here. Yes you can put the seat way back, but then you're driving with your arms held straight out. Not comfortable for tall people. Also the thing we never talk about..... the rear view mirror in most vehicles is right in the eye-level line of sight, so in order to see straight ahead (stop signs, pedestrians, traffic, etc) we have to hunch down to see about 1/3 of the windshield
Very true, 4runners are not made for tall people
