  • The first all-electric Riva is here and with the Riva El-Iseo electric boaing has never looked so good!
Join us for a full tour and walkthrough of this brand new electric Riva, which made its debut at the 2024 Düsseldorf Boat Show.
The El-Iseo is based on the standard Iseo but after a 1.5 year development period the electric runs on a 250kw electric motor power by a 150kwh battery bank, which can be charged in 75 minutes from a standard shorepower connection.
The top speed is 40 knots, though this will give you very little running time, but throttle back to 25 knots and the range is 25nm. At 5 knots the boat will cover 50nm. Not huge miles but when you consider that this boat is designed for use on lakes it makes a bit more sense.
It’s safe to say that propulsion aside it’s beautiful business as usual on this 8.5m Riva. The California Light Blue paintwork is gorgeous, as is the stainless steel detailing and luxuriuiouysly varnished timber work. It’s a Riva, but not as we know it.

Gorgeous and with a petrol V8 it would be practical too.
Look forward to the sea trial 👍❤️🇬🇧

Absolutely perfect!! I live next to The Great Lakes, The Ohio River and a ton of man-made lakes. This is a trailerable boat capable of managing the waters on all of those surfaces. Crist Craft, Carver and Sea Ray among others made their companies off of the waterways in my area. All of the companies above have forgotten their roots over the last 15 years and stopped making boats/yachts for this market and look what has happen to the sales of every single one of those companies!!! Riva thank you for being the class act that you always are and introducing this model! Is there a small cabin in this model like the standard ISEO? Can you do custom upgrades?

It's a beautiful boat but the limited range is problematic and presumably that could decline further as the battery ages?

I live in the bay area. Actually my house sits over the water in Tiburon. I think the range is perfect for this type of boat for the average person. The only boats I see going full gas are offshore racing boat. Not yachts, small craft.

That is a fantastic boat for Lac Leman, Garda or Como. You can go from your home to a nearby restaurant with electric speed. Real speed. For ocean use it is useless.

They've been taking older classic Riva's and making them electric for a few years now. Horatio Pagani owned one, supposedly. But I don't think it's all that bad. Considering the laws for lakes now are getting stricter that soon I expect electric will be standard in 5 years all over Europe and most of America. The shocking thing is the range. I get that it's for lakes, but there will be some owner who puts it on a superyacht and then takes it out to the ocean and gets stuck when his showboating runs the battery to nil. An expensive toy. There are other brands, but not many that damn sexy!

I wonder if theyve updated the combustion Iseo cockpit to this. No word on their site, still showing the age old Iseo in the photos. Currently it has that failure of the chartplotter mount, looks really bad and old.

Interesting with battery power, the first example of a new type of boats.
    Test drive please.
Possibly a boat for a tender for a very posh super yacht?
25 nautical for 25 knots yeah not much yet but a great start but for sailing on lakes river at the moment. Potentially after more research go faster for longer
    Interesting.

Do they add a faux roaring sound to simulate their REAL boats, kind of like the newer slot machines that pay in tickets play the "clink clink" of the coins in the chute via a speaker? (smile)

For far lower CO2-emissions over the boat's lifetime to just use diesel, or if you want to be green then buy NEXBTL biodiesel to be far greener than EVs can ever be. Other choices: use a gasoline engine which can run on E85 or which has a CNG system installed which can then use biomethane or natural gas (alongside ordinary gasoline which will always remain a choice if no supply of the other fuels). All of these choices make the boat far lower in CO2 than battery-electric drive...for a fraction of the price.

I'm always ambivalent on this sort of thing. The US has a LOT of lake boats, so I can see one of these zipping around The Finger Lakes. The Great Lakes not so much.

Electric battery are not environmentally friendly at all. I can see how the reduction in noise and pollution of lakes is great, but batteries are very harmful to create and we have no real answer to disposing them.
    Very stylish boat though

This boat although ver beautiful will never be cleaner than a gas or diesel boat based on mileage. All it’s CO2 was produced in the making of the batteries and unless you drive it like a car to 180,000 miles you will never equal the CO2 output of a gas engine!

Boats are the *_worst possible_* vehicles for electric drive. Absolute idiocy. Makes no sense in any case at all. The batteries are absolutely massive ecological disasters. Battery-electric drive isn't suited to boats at all. Boats are used too seldom to claw back any of the massive emissions from making the battery from any fake "low-emissions boating"...it just doesn't do enough miles. The batteries need massive heating and cooling for each little jaunt, and it's just overall nonsensical.
The charging losses alone will be horrendous since the battery will need massive amounts of energy used for heating the battery for each charge, and it'll still have huge charging losses (I'll bet it'll be over 20% for each charge, maybe more since no doubt people won't wait around for the battery to cool or heat to exactly optimum temperature, and even when optimum that'll probably lose at minimum 10%)

  • @JohnSmith-zo6ir
    @JohnSmith-zo6ir 3 месяца назад +3

😂 And when a battery bursts into flames it can't be contained on aboat and no fire engines are coming. On land you can run, but out at sea you had better be an Olympic long distance swimmer. No charging stations at sea and battery life is contingent upon sea conditions.
The cost of electricity to charge a boat will become prohibitive as energy costs go through the roof with regular outages on the way as electricity grids can no longer cope with poor supply from unreliable renewables.
    No thank you.
Batteries should only be for hotel facilities on board and quiet anchorages. Diesel must remain. The risks at sea are way more than on the roads.
You can keep this boat and let it rot with all the EV cars they can no longer sell. All the major car manufacturers are stopping production of EVs. Nobody wants them. Showrooms have 6 months stock of EVs and nobody wants them. Im sure some idiot will buy one.

A very sad day for boating. Riva, the new Bud Light. Looks pretty but totally useless. Electrify and water don’t mix too well. I don’t care how safe the charging system is, accidents happen. As far as the fire risk is concerned (as EV evidence shows) remind me to change marinas if one berths in my marina. Just saying. 🙏
