The biggest problem with the format is that consistency is not reward at all. Under this format a guy could win every race but the last 10 and still not be the champion. That's bullshit.
Sure it's rewarded because the most consistent driver is going to get in on points as far as the final 4 and If you're consistent in the regular season and don't have a win and there's not 16 winners that's going to get you in the playoffs if you're in the top 16 after 26th race
Under the old points, Bill Elliott won 12 races compared to DWs 3 in 1985. DW was more consistent that year and won the Title at Riverside (last race, people Were watching). Very few people at the time were pleased with That result. There Was more DW hate back then and everybody adored The Elliott Brothers. When Matt Kenseth won the title in 2003 with one victory, Ryan Newman won 8 races & finished in 6th in points, driving for Roger Penske. Guess it's hard to please everybody, no matter the format. @Bruce, I remember declining free Atlanta Hooters 500 tickets because Earnhardt had already clinched the championship that season and that race just didn't matter. I believe this was Why NASCAR created the playoffs, so all the last races of the season Did matter. I agree, He got totally hosed at Martinsville. It looked for a while like he was going to win Phoenix! I remember being at Daytona and watching him barrel roll his truck 9 times. When he was a 'nobody' and beat all the cup Stars at ElDora, I became an instant fan of this kid I'd never heard of. He certainly deserves another shot at the Championship.

I was at that race Bobby won at Bowman Gray, FWIW It was called the Grand American Series. I also saw Tiny Lund win at Wilkesboro in his Pepsi Special. I had a special Grandpa we loved NASCAR! I'm a little older than Herm😆 64

If we look at offshore powerboat racing, they have two different championships. There's a regular season championship and there is also a championship for winning a series of races at the end of the season. Both championships are awarded after the final race of the season. I think it would be good for NASCAR to reward consistency AND the ability to put together a great burst of race performances at the end of the season. This could end the debate of the classic point system versus the modern engineered point system.

Why not eliminate the "win and you automatically advance" in the playoffs and just give more points for wins in the playoffs than they do now to reward winning a race...that way a driver still has to prove over 3 playoff races that they deserve to advance and don't get to automatically leap frog over a driver that earned their higher ranking in the playoffs with their regular season performance and don't get to advance (and potentially eliminate another driver) based on 1 race only.
I had to stop right here at what you just said about seeding. Get rid of win and move on during playoffs? Just go by points. So, in example, the 1 seed in round one only has to beat the 16 seed in points though 3 races. The 2 seed beat the 15, etc. This is a FANTASTIC idea. You're now playing a team against team for 3 races. Maybe both win a race, but whomever has most points at the end of 3 races moves on. Hello boys, I would like to appreciate your comment on the NASCAR point system and the fact that I win can guarantee you a spot in the playoff or at least in the beginning of the playoffs and if gives a chance to any race car driver that have limited resources to be able to at least participate in a playoff battle that could end quickly or extend to the final four. The point that I like to make across is that the format should help teams the struggle all season long and with one win could potentially turn into a championship . we have to remember that teams like Panske Childress, Hendrick Gibbs, of course petty enterprises are dominant teams because of the reputation they have cemented in the sport. as much as the system helps this teams that I mention Kenny, if you would've been in a situation as similar, where you looking a playoff spot by winning the last race to qualify, would you take advantage of it? NASCAR told the drivers to race and not to pull punches. That is what Larson did and it prevented Blaney from the championship. The points system is mathematically insufficient. Larson wins 6 races and only got 50 extra points. If the points were fair, he wouldn't have been in jeopardy of not even making the round of 8. Kenny, just because people don't like the playoff system doesn't make them old or cranky. They have an opinion just like you. YOU are not always right like you say.
The points are fair. The race winner gets 40 points second place gets 35 third place gets 34 and so on. The max points you can earn other than the 600 is 60 points aka winning both stages and the race and You build up playoff points and they carry over through the round of eight And they get added to your total after The points reset each round

The Race : there were two different races , one : cars that were done with racing and just to go home , two : there were 3 to 4 cars racing - this was a boring race for a last race for 2024 😊

Yeah I didn't. Bother watching the cup "championship". It is not on par with the NFL super bowl and I'm not a super fan of NFL.. NASCAR has done a good job of pushing the long time for hard fans away.. NFL did too for a while but they learned from it But the good thing about the NFL is the games are usually good if they are not a blowout. And if they are I can change the channel and see the other games. And then, I get to see more games four hours later. And then another game in the evening. And the points don't get reset every quarter like a tarded re-rack after a current NASCAR stage. So as someone who has participated and later watched both venues. NASCAR playoffs are a farce, football (and other sports) playoffs are legit.
I had to come to grips that NASCAR changed the format and the old statistics no longer matter, laps led , most season wins, no longer matter. Win and your in during the playoffs. The best racing from start to finish this year.

Easy playoff solution. Rank 1-16. First three races they race for points highest wins. So seed 1. Vs seed 16. 2 vs 15 etc. end of three races ones with best average or most points move on. Next round seed again. Just like nfl or nba. Simple fix. Then in finals 2 or 4 highest finisher wins. Done

If we look at offshore powerboat racing, they have two different championships. There's a regular season championship and there is also a championship for winning a series of races at the end of the season. Both championships are awarded after the final race of the season. I think it would be good for NASCAR to reward consistency AND the ability to put together a great burst of race performances at the end of the season. This could end the debate of the classic point system versus the modern engineered point system.

To answer your question of who had the best season, I have an answer. I'm not hating on Joey Logano as he won under the rules of the format. But I do think the format should reward the driver who had the best season and I don't see that with the current format. I have highlighted where the final four drivers are.

I'm not sold on the playoff system, as I think it is stupid, but I guess it makes for better TV. I'd like to see it go to one car teams.
What's good for TV is what matters
Why not eliminate the "win and you automatically advance" in the playoffs and just give more points for wins in the playoffs than they do now to reward winning a race...that way a driver still has to prove over 3 playoff races that they deserve to advance and don't get to automatically leap frog over a driver that earned their higher ranking in the playoffs with their regular season performance and don't get to advance (and potentially eliminate another driver) based on 1 race only.
I had to stop right here at what you just said about seeding. Get rid of win and move on during playoffs? Just go by points. So, in example, the 1 seed in round one only has to beat the 16 seed in points though 3 races. The 2 seed beat the 15, etc. This is a FANTASTIC idea. You're now playing a team against team for 3 races. Maybe both win a race, but whomever has most points at the end of 3 races moves on. Hello boys, I would like to appreciate your comment on the NASCAR point system and the fact that I win can guarantee you a spot in the playoff or at least in the beginning of the playoffs and if gives a chance to any race car driver that have limited resources to be able to at least participate in a playoff battle that could end quickly or extend to the final four.
The point that I like to make across is that the format should help teams the struggle all season long and with one win could potentially turn into a championship . we have to remember that teams like Panske Childress, Hendrick Gibbs, of course petty enterprises are dominant teams because of the reputation they have cemented in the sport. as much as the system helps this teams that I mention Kenny, if you would've been in a situation as similar, where you looking a playoff spot by winning the last race to qualify, would you take advantage of it? NASCAR told the drivers to race and not to pull punches. That is what Larson did and it prevented Blaney from the championship.
The points system is mathematically insufficient. Larson wins 6 races and only got 50 extra points. If the points were fair, he wouldn't have been in jeopardy of not even making the round of 8.

The points are fair. The race winner gets 40 points second place gets 35 third place gets 34 and so on. The max points you can earn other than the 600 is 60 points aka winning both stages and the race and You build up playoff points and they carry over through the round of eight And they get added to your total after The points reset each round

But the good thing about the NFL is the games are usually good if they are not a blowout.
And if they are I can change the channel and see the other games. And then, I get to see more games four hours later. And then another game in the evening.
And the points don't get reset every quarter like a tarded re-rack after a current NASCAR stage.
So as someone who has participated and later watched both venues. NASCAR playoffs are a farce, football (and other sports) playoffs are legit.

Easy playoff solution. Rank 1-16. First three races they race for points highest wins. So seed 1. Vs seed 16. 2 vs 15 etc. end of three races ones with best average or most points move on. Next round seed again. Just like nfl or nba. Simple fix. Then in finals 2 or 4 highest finisher wins. Done
