  • Took a Short Excursion to Taiwan, visited Taipei, Hsinchu, and Taroko Gorge NP. We enjoyed Taiwan, but visiting made us appreciate Japan even more.
    Food was so different in Taiwan, majority of savory items seemed flavored with a spice I was not accustomed to. I loved sampling all the different cuisines in the popular night markets.
    Lots of roaming dogs on the streets, and even dogs in some restaurants! Surprisingly I never heard a dog barking, and all that we met were well mannered. We saw many a dog riding with their owners on Scooters.
    Crazy amount of scooters in Taiwan, probably scooter to car ratio was around 70/30. We saw many a family squeezed onto a scooter.
    Taroko Gorge National Park was breathtaking, we crossed 6 different suspension bridges, experienced a natural hot spring, met wild monkeys, and an animal that I think was a lemur?

    Amazing trip. It looks like a warm place. I am glad you like to try exotic foods. I would hesitate to eat the 100 year old eggs. Wow! the gorge at 11:41 is amazing. I spotted a sign written in Koran at 18:11. At 3:34 you mention the Memorial Hall. Chiang Kai-Shek was a household name all Americans knew from new reports back when I was a boy. Not only a Chinese leader, but a world leader. He met with Winston Churchill, FDR, Eisenhower and Truman.

    Day markets are as great as night markets. People in Taiwan eat out a lot, so day market is a super important supplier of daily meals, hence great food could be found in all the day markets. Definitely worth visiting.
    Century old eggs are usually eat within a meal, seasoning with soy sauce and pairing with rice. Some people even stir it up with soy sauce and pour it on top of a bowl of rice, kind of like having natto with rice.

      Yea we did go to a day market. I love being able to sample so many foods! That century egg was so interesting it was like a Jello Egg!

      Idk I thought it was fine just the way it was, but next time we will see if we can find some. We tried the salty egg too but it was way too salty for our tastes.

    Actually the food in Taiwan is MUCH BETTER than Japanese food. You just don't appreciate new things very well.

    • @Famvestor
      @Famvestor  Год назад

      Lol maybe so. I grew up with Japanese food, so maybe I’ve already acquired more of a taste for it. What if you 3 favorite Taiwanese dishes?
