  • Nick Akerman, Former Assistant US Attorney and Former Watergate Prosecutor, shares his insight on if the appearance of Speaker Mike Johnson, Governor Doug Burgum, and other Republicans attending former President Trump's court hearing calls for a judge to remove them due to potentially intimidating to a witness. Akerman also talks about Michael Cohen's second day of testimony, and states that at this point the case is pretty much over. He speaks with Kailey Leinz and Joe Mathieu on Bloomberg's "Balance of Power."

Who withheld from attorneys for Richard Nixon, Bob Haldeman, and Bob Erlichman the fact that John Dean kept changing his story? Who knew that John Dean was to be indicted for organizing the Watergate break-ins (there were at least two) but withheld the indictment when a new, political prosecutor decided to suborn perjury to Get Nixon? Well, at least Bloomberg didn't bring in John Dean himself as the expert on lawfare against a president. Thumbs down, for obvious reasons.

This case is absolutely dependent on the theory that writing “legal expenses” on a disclosure was both incorrect accounting (according to the federal election commission its not) and that trump directed it, AND that trump did this in 2017 specifically to effect the outcome of an election that had already occurred.
Any attempt to describe the evidence in ways that dont address at least one of those points is gaslighting. There never was any controversy over the hush money payments themselves. This case rests on the legal argument that a book keeping entry in 2017 was done to influence the outcome of the election in 2016.

We probably would have seen the death penalty for TREASON if the Biblical GOP had gotten hold of it. Problem now is, they've twisted it AGAIN, so these very same Biblical people are supporting an adulterous sexual assailant who is anti-Constitutional and anti-law & order while claiming he is going to drain the swamp. It's just a massive three-card Monte, and there are literally millions of Americans paying/losing their hard-earned cash to support someone and (now even) a party all in on fleecing them while blaming everyone else. Several things baffle me. 1) non-disclosure agreements are perfectly legal. You can call them "hush money", but that is not their legal term. 2) Calling a legal fee a legal fee is not illegal. 3) Why does a lower court have the standing to prosecute a case that clearly is Federal in nature? Why does Ney York have the right to impact the election for all states? This is clearly Machiavellian political drama at its highest. Did Stormy accept the money? Did she agree to shut her mouth? Did Cohen agree to a attorney/ client agreement? So why is Trump on trial and not Stormy and Cohen? Cheers

Exactly, what Akerman said is very true. This case should be an open shut case because the evidence, facts and documents presented by the prosecutors were so clear cut proving Trump is guilty of the crimes he committed that whatever the defence has tried to do so far has no relevance to the case. Trying to point out Cohen's past and trying to paint Cohen as a liar or whatever has nothing to do with the case because the evidence, documents and facts provided in this case only matters. Cohen's past is not on trial. The defence has not been able to refute any of the evidence provided as they've all been backed up by documents, video conversations , witness Pecker, etc.. Trying to discredit Cohen does not change the facts and evidence in the case.
