Yes. I have used the technique of taping hardware in baggies to furniture when moving. It's great. I handed bags and tape out to my friends who were helping me move. It's standard moving equipment for me now
After struggling to get rid of anything that belonged to my Mom after she passed, I finally reminded myself that If she were here, she would tell me to get rid of all that junk and get my house clean, and I also kept a few very meaningful things in DIY them into something that I could really use more than I could in its original state. And also made a shadow box with a few sentimental items of hers.
I used to be a "buy one in every colour" person with my clothes. During my wardrobe declutter I learned about colour analysis as a way of deciding what suits me/what to give away. It's really helped! I now have a colour scheme (about 4 specific colours) and everything that isn't in those colours has gone/I don't buy. It's so easy to get dressed now, most things match and I can find them! Laundry is also easier.
Perfectionist... so me...I feel like a failure because I can't seem to get things done. I am in my 60's and I have never been where I just want to run from my house. I can let go...but, physically I can't do it anymore.I use to take everything out of a room and clean it and put it all back in one day. it's just killing me...because, I want to do it myself. I find it hard to surface clean...doesn't seem right somehow. Your show was a God send to me today....I think you so much. With hubby in early stages of dementia..so hard to accept that my life is over for the most part. I have been a care giver all my life but, this is the worst. He was my rock. I feel like the living dead and I miss my strong arm. I think I'm in mourning..Can you speak on that and the changes that cause someone to shut down. I am a newbie so I might have missed it if you already have. Again, thanks for what you do to help others.
Wanda Landers I'm with you! Was a caregiver for my son, who passed 10 years ago...I can't seem to get control over my house, and it's turned into a cluttered mess. Like your I'm 65 and lack the energy.
@Wanda Landers I totally get where you are and understand the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. I'm so sorry about your husband. It's so hard when the roles reverse and you have to be the rock for someone who was always your rock. We're kindred spirits in many ways. It has always fallen to me to be a caregiver, starting with my strapping young Marine husband who was cut down in our early 20s by cancer. Later in life it was my mother, but I was able to share the responsibilities with Daddy. Finally, it was Daddy who needed 24/7 care. I moved all my belongings into his house and garage in order to take care of him, and I've never been able to crawl out from under the mess since that day. In my mind I've pretty much given up, but there must be some spark of hope hidden deep inside since I'm here watching the Clutter Fairy! I do that every so often, but at 73, I'm thinking it's probably not going to happen. Like you, I have no physicality to tackle the task. I have no other family, so there's no one available to help me screw in a light bulb (ladders are iffy for me), let alone declutter. Do you have any family who can help you? I do feel for what you're going through. It's tiring and discouraging. For the years I took care of Daddy, I found ways to entertain myself online (videos, ministries, message boards, etc). It didn't get my house clean, but it did occupy my thoughts and provide encouragement during that time. I'll pray for you.
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband and your situation. Maybe Gayle can come up with something that speaks to our special situation - wanting to do it and getting some done but not enough. Thankfully, I don't try to pass things on to friends or family but just getting and staying motivated to keep going can be so hard to impossible. Did paper decluttering while listening to this session. Hope I can keep going for a few more hours. Off to find another to listen to!
@@TheDriftwoodlover thank you and as horrible as it may sound I feel better knowing I'm not the only one...lol I wish no one had to go through this , but life kicks our butts and we have to deal somehow. I guess somewhere, somehow, I fell apart. I am better today ...cleaned out the dishwasher...Ha Now, where did I put that broom. Know someone is out there who understands and be happy !Don't let others get you down.
The amount of time needed is overwhelming. It makes me not want to start and do a little bit. Kathy B I finally decided to donate the dishes I bought before I was married. I tried selling it but wanted it out. Gone!
If you had a parent who criticized every imperfect thing you did for as far back as you can remember, you might understand. Some of my earliest memories are my mother acting like it was the absolute end of the world if I spilled milk or water on the floor. It's an emotional protection reflex.
I think we all understand that parents leaves some kind of scars on every child. If your scars are about your mom being hypercritical, then altering your own self talk is a bigger mountain to climb. But, it's also true that actively creating your own encouraging self talk can help make your mother's tapes in your head get quieter. I wish you the best in your quest to change the narrative to one that is supportive and encouraging.

@@TheClutterFairy post moving update! Your advices helped me so much more I would have never known! Didn't declutter that much, bit realised I care a lot about some of my (art supplies mostly) stuff, and started painting & drawing again in my new flat, which I hadn't done in like 5y!
I noticed that once I retired I was not wearing heels as often resulting in "dusty" shoes. I used the appropriate size ziplock bags for flats, heels, booties and boots! GENIUS BLESSINGS Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Many years ago I read a book called 'What Do You Say When You Talk To Yourself'?' Gayle's wise words caused me to remember it. The book was mainly about our self talk and how we make it true. When we say 'I'm so fat, dumb, can't do anything right - fill in the blank - we tend to make it true. Do we compliment our self or complain about something? What do we say to or about our self that we would never say to anyone else.
We certainly make the intentions much stronger the more we complain about something. Self-talk is powerful, and saying loving things to yourself is a wonderful thing you can do for yourself for free. You can't control what others say or do about you, but you can support yourself with positive self talk instead. You're worth it!
Most things i just give to donations, but there are times i will text a pic asking if someone wanted the item. .. Ziplocs are great for campers as well = less bulky packaging for storing & for seasoning meat, like hamburgers-- just put everything in ziploc, squish together = easy clean up. 😊
I'm not a hoarder, but I do tend to hold onto the narrative that I might need that thing at some point. Once I had a roommate who was exactly the opposite. She was totally fine with tossing stuff, and, of course, she was unburdened by a bunch of extra stuff. I marveled at her ability to do that! Actually, I was kind of jealous, wishing some of that would rub off on me! ;D
relistening...love this ,,I was just thinking about "will I use this...do I still want this" I keep thinking I might need this to sell someday to supplement income...would I do it probably not..so I will sell or give it away now so I can have less clutter and I can bank the money if it sells ! Thanks you two !!
Good as always but there was more about self talk to stay cluttered than there was self talk to be clutter free. I would like to hear more self talk for an uncluttered lifestyle.
Just thinking about the “ perfect shirt” or “ perfect shoes”....I WOULD buy it in every color they offer, but then I would get rid of the shirts / shoes already have that I don’t love as much.❤️
I like zip locks to use for moving. For example pack your bathroom in advance and you can see where the things are you need up to moving day. Organize n purge as you go. The cool trick is packing these bags back in boxes that fit in their shelf. Even to those cupboards with all those other toiletries etc!!! Moving day, just pull n out n go.
My sister in law does this frequently. She declutters and then brings boxes and bins of stuff to my house. And I realize when I do not stop her, I have allowed her clutter to become my clutter. : (
On buying multiple's in every color. If you find a garment that you like, I find that the color has a lot to do with why you like it. A top in green may have a different vib in red. You probably don't even like to actually wear some of the colors that item come in. I rarely buy more than one item in one color. This also prevents your wardrobe to become dull and repetitive.
I could not do the give it to someone else with a hold on it , I wouldn't want them to feel like they have to "keep" it for me. Just give it and if I want to use it and they still have it , I would ask.
A cat used the raised meow feature at 2:35. Useful tips as always, thank you Gayle and Ed!. I use zip locks a lot for my tiny bead and charm collection I use for sewing. Also, for such small craft-related objects, one can buy wooden boxes with transparent lid. Normally these boxes are for decoupage, but they are pretty and are a pleasure to open, so if you like your crafts to be stored in an aesthetically pleasing way, it's cool to have a cute, pine wood box rather than just a plastic container.
I'm not sure I would respond well to someone mocking me, that I hired to Help me- 20:00 min. in, regarding the client that is older of 13 years. Seems like you are belittling her joy and stories over her beloved items.

Oh dear! IF you dispose of something during Lent, doesn't that mean you can retrieve it since it was lent? Just askin'.
😂😂😂
I thought you said you had a "weakness for bees" lol. (it was "beads".)
To me, it was "beets". I hear what I want to hear, and I also love beets.
If you ever get your house perfect, then you have to laminate it and can't use it. Lol
