Pharoah Sanders...some of the most musical compositions one could ever have the pleasure to hear. And John Hicks came and went too soon. Wish I knew that drummer with his impeccable timing. RIP John Hicks...respect.

Idris Muhammed actually one of the great unsung heroes ( there are so many ) of this music. One of the very best and most versatile of his generation and one of the best drummers. Any gig or record w Idris on drums worth checking out and Pharaoh's groups with Hicks and Idris are my favorite lineup for Pharoah

We used to dance to Pharoah at the top of Yoshi's balcony. Best acoustics in that perfect room, too. With help from the woman who played violin with Camper Van Beethoven and sometime waitressed there -- her name is escaping me 30 years later. But not her. Pharoah Pharoah Pharoah. Says it all. He was my introduction to jazz -- a master class from a class master -- at the Both/And on Diviz in SF in 1972. ComPLETEly blew my mind. Heard a LOT of him at Yoshi's (the old Yoshi's, on Claremont in Oakland) in the 80s and 90s. Exceptional video here & nice sound. Big thanks.

One of the greats, who left us, with a treasure trove of celestial masterpieces. Man am I glad to have grown up in the 1970s. Rest in peace, to all the greats who's musical poetry has forever schetched its imagination into our hearts and minds.

SO good to hear this -- and Pharoah looking so young. Abounding gratitude. Closeup of Hicks' hands at around 52:00 following is a miracle.

NORBERT.

@@jzzft11 EW Wainwright -- another fantastic drummer Pharoah favored. And in the mid 90s for a while several runs with the INCOMPARABLE Charnett Moffett on bass -- far too soon gone, still a young man. The Jimi Hendrix of the string bass.

Great group - my favorite line up w Pharoah these guys ( sometimes W Ray Drummond on bass too, but not taking anything away from Walter Booker - beautiful solo on talk about you btw). Hicks was Pharoah's McCoy, Idris was his Elvin.
