I don’t think people understand what it was like listening to Kanye in the 2000s. It was my first year of college when I bought Graduation and Kanye was truly in his own realm of hip hop. He stood out among every hip hop artist who beats were pretty much club hits and lyrics were good but expected in those times. But ye…. His music felt like you were listening to something from a parallel universe. It had just enough core to go mainstream but it was such an underground and abstract experience. His music was like an audible painting… art in your ears both Timeless and transcendental.
“Big Brother” put a few tears in my eye, when that Classic was released, I bought that album/CD from the Shannon Mall/Union City JOE’JAH aka Georgia and when I peeled that plastic and popped that CD 💿 in deck...It was magical Sunn, That Track moved’Me and it came from outta nowhere, One of My Relatives chose one path and I chose a different path away from the streets, we were close super close before we met that fork in the road and that Song dug up some feelings and memories that I repressed....And I was the Little Brother of that relationship, in the South 1st Cousins were no different than being Brothers, Classic HIPHOP track, and I will always go back to that particular date and time riding through College Park and Atlanta and Smyrna JOE’JAH that night....Amazing Podcast/RUclips Channel My Brothers, We Love Support You Fam, DJToomp is Legendary,Sunn
Family...I was just telling folks DJ Toomp seems to be overlooked these days. He is a legend!! His sound is different. I love that he created that sound. He is so dope and cool person. Dope interview
Gotta love social media for times like this I mean I grew up listening to this man music but just now seeing him I've been listening to him since the 1990s,💯💯💯💯Great Guest & interviews High😎
Big brother had a crazy feel to it first listen. I'll always remember I was on a L ride and it was cold af out and was just riding around getting high af to that shit. That beat is easily one of the greatest beats of all time
Graduation was Kanye really fusing backpack hip hop and feeding the mainstream beast. Lyrical story telling was at the heart of the program whilst being able to make club / tv pop bangers. It was his one size fits all album
I Ain't Can't Stress This Enough, B High is One of the greatest in the business.. Salute DJ Toomp he brought incredible sounds for the ears over the years!!
yeah thats rare but the key. Just gotta remember we here to hear the guests. A lot of other interviewers wanna talk more than the guests or even worse cut in right when the guest is on track to give some great info in their interview...
Enjoyed this clip. Never understood why Toomp stopped getting placements on these dudes albums. One of the rare few who specialized in 808 drums, but who distinguished himself from the million other "trap producers" whose shit all sounds the same. Big Brother and Can't Tell Me Nothing is stadium music. Those with real sound systems in their cars already know.
One of the best producers imho. His beats were always super-musical but he still had that bounce. And the signature quarter note ride cymbal that Toomp used to put in his beats ALWAYS seemed to work for some reason.
Special shout out to B Hi and Toomp uplifting a brother that is not from they hood or click and not clowning him while he down.Hope Ye see this and acknowledge that people love his music and him a human being.
Now, I can boycott DjVlad!! I just subscribed, I been peeping fam for about a half a year!!! I like these interviews. Fam know history, don’t over talk the guests etc...
No disrespect to Lex/Sonny/Metro/808 Mafia but Organized Noize, Toomp Shawty Red and Zay gave you actual composed and arranged music with the 808s and gave the trap sound more texture and maturity. (Edit: GOTTA add Drumma + C Note)
Great post. I think Metro's almost there in that tier. Unfortunately, alotta his early production is with too many "lil's" and "young's," so I cant dig into his catalogue too heavy. The new album with 21 Savage is beautifully produced however.
Toomp doesn't get his flowers like he should. He damn well created the modern sonic landscape of Trap music with tip and went on to completely change music. Now even pop kids are trying to do trap

Yeah, he was really big on dense sounding beats that had full chord progressions in them. It always made the track sound more Epic.
