My brother was a drywall contractor. He taught me a lot about installing drywall. He had a lot of patience for me as a teenager. Anyway when you talked about using your head to hold it up to the ceiling and going bald I kind of laughed because he went bald to. He refused to use that drywall jack equipment. A waste of time he said. He passed away a few months ago. I miss him so much.

Yeah once it's up like he had it, you just run your forearm along it to hold it up and with that same hand have it prepped with screws and grab your screw gun with the other hand. It seems like a lot but once you are used to it it's quick. Grab screws, grab the sheet put it up to the ceiling, grab your gun and screw it off.

Very helpful! Having tried it both with and without a drywall lift, I STRONGLY recommend going to your local home center and renting a drywall lift. It can turn a 4 day solo job into a 1 day solo job with so much less aggravation.

Great tutorial ! Thank you, it gave me the confidence to get it done. I would emphasize: a) Do not underestimate the non-squareness of the room, this was my nemesis b) The tip about the small blocks to hold the panels in place is GOLDEN c) The "cut as you go" technique with the T ruler requires a LOT of expertise, definitely not for the beginner, mark with pencil and cut d) Cutting the "brown paper" side of the panel is equally critical in the accuracy needed , e) USE GLOVES, the material of the panels I got had glass fiber and it killed my hands. Thanks again! Great video!

Great video series on dry way. I love the way Jeff explains what he is doing. I thought the hawk and the trowel were going to be really awkward to use but I decided to give it a try .... I am sold. I did my 12 x 15 foot room in half the time. With the tips on the application on the corner and using the faster drying mud in the large gaps I was able get the room ready to paint much faster. I have to say I feel like I know Jeff now because I watched his videos on dry way many times over the last few weeks as I have done this remodel (mostly on Saturdays). He puts so much information into one video you really need to watch it multiple times to pick everything up. Thanks Jeff...keep up the great work.

I watched one video and thought you were pretty good - but likely just got lucky. As I watch more videos I see that all of the little things you do are backed by YEARS of experience and doing things the wrong way to figure out the right way.
The fact that you are willing to impart your knowledge on us is awesome.
I absolutely loved that little holding the tape/pencil technique. I am DEFINITELY using that one!

I used the drywall lift when I finished my basement by myself. I used 5/8th" on the ceiling (a waste) and that stuff was heavy. I used drywall screws (for top piece) and strips of drywall (bottom piece) to hang the drywall on the walls. The wood block would've been a nice set of helping hands back then on my first drywall job.

I like your videos, they help me out with projects I am working on. I will be installing two layers of 5/8 drywall on the ceiling in my drum room after I install the resilient channel. I already have insulation up in the ceiling, the ceiling is 7’ high and it’s in the basement. When we bought the house it had a bar area in the basement so I ripped the bar out and did the framing, drywall the front outside and inside I also have safe and sound insulation between the drywall. As of right now I have hung 1/2” drywall in my wife’s art studio she wanted. So my room will be next, then the rest of the basement will be remolded into a family room with a pool table that was left in the basement which I plan on remolding also using up cycled pallets to give it a rustic look.

Hi, I would love to see a video about insulating an attic and adding furring (sp?) strips. This video starts after the strips have already been installed. Also, I've seen your video on insulating walls, but not ceilings. Thanks for your excellent content!

Holding the drywall in place with one's head is a great way to leave grease spots on the paper. If you're going to wear a baseball cap while doing it, though, be sure to first tear off the "button" in the center of the crown; otherwise it's going to _hurt._

Also, to avoid punching the paper, and having crooked screws, that install allowed the screws to be screwed outside of the tape end, and holds better with more meat of the rock. Screw pattern code is very similar to sheet rock code for amounts of screws if not the same
