Fascinating video. But I'm struggling to imagine a home-user application that benefits from the extra speed, particularly as random read/writes are not enhanced by the generation upgrade. In a "Big Data" commercial environment...well, perhaps.
I think it might come, but at the moment I couldn't find a big benefit for what I use the drive for and I went back at the end after making the video to add the puget benchmarks in the hope of showing some improvement. At least the temperature testing was positive.
@@ChristopherFlannigan I purchased a ASRock x670e steel series mother board. I’m currently building a PC with 4090 Ryzen9 7950x. This mother motherboard has a Gen. 5 slot. I’m debating to wait on gen 5 SSDs . Would it be okay to put a gen 4 in its slot or I have to go with Gen. 5 ssds? I think there’s other gen4 slots but I’m curious if it has to go there first.
I did a 3 minute heavy with transitions 1080p video render test comparison several times on a 7950x between a 3.0 SATA drive and a DDR5 ImDisk RAM drive. I saw only a 1 second difference in render times. So yeah, unless your Pixar or ILM, SSD read and write speed is not really any kind of bottleneck in your typical video rendering scenario. Put your money into as many processor cores as you can get and at least a decent GPU.
I'm planning on the 2Tb as my OS drive (PCIe-5), but also a 4TB Scratch Disk for large simulation files but this is only PCIe-4, my question is...would I see a benefit in using this drive on PCIe-4 or should I just opt for the P5 Plus ?
From what testing I've seen using real world examples, Gen 5 & Direct Storage is a waste of money for the typical home user. Please correct me if I'm wrong! I think the money saved by sticking to Gen 4 could be put into a better GPU and there would be more real world benefit.
Is there a deference between " copy" vs. "transfer"? In "copy" there is a specific verification processes that may contribute to lag. I don't have data to backup my question and just putting it out.
so to confirm when you run a gen 5 m.2 drive you loose x16 gen 4 through pci bus slot on the gpu and it gose to gen 4 x8 on any mother bord cpu config in this world true or false????????????????
Query if anyone can help, building a new system with Asus Hero / 7800X3D with 990 Pro and Corsair MP700 - Both drives are 2TB. To Make the best use of "Direct Storage" would it hinder performance if WIN 11 was installed on the 990 Pro but games installed on the GEN 5 MP700. I believe the new v1.2 API for "Direct Storage" makes better use of GEN 5 drives. Forza Motorsport will be the latest game to use DS but not yet confirmed if it applies this version. Would love to see a video regards the current state of DS and gaming performance benefits.

The random read/write memory, which is what is used to start a pc for example, has the same as a pcie 4.0 as is the Samsung or the WD 850x and they cost half as much. PLUS is also much lower than the one offered by the manufacturer Crucial in the technical specifications. 1500 random read 1500 random write while i havent seen any of them giving more than 750/800 Conclusion : unless you just use this m2 for moving BIG files,is not worth the money.

No point having a faster drive if it doesn't translate to real world speed increases given the price premium. I've got far better things to do with my time than justify such a waste of money running benchmarks all day just to cheer myself up.
Unfortunately, that’s not how NAND flash works. Anybody who sells a NAND flash product with a lifetime warranty is scamming you. If you’re looking for an SSD with a lifetime warranty, you will _never_ be buying an SSD ever. It’s an inherent property of flash storage that it wears out over time from being written to, and a well-known one at that.

Biggest benefit from Gen5 isnt the rediculous seq read/writes. its freeing up bus lanes.

SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR AVERAGE USERS
This is not aimed at the average user, but with gen 4 prices not much more than gen 3 I would go at least gen 4 now
