Whats so amazing about that Skit .....is how the comedians themselves didn't get confused and mess up !
Whats on 2nd
@@scottvaldes70 I dont know
Third base!
Naturally
Right! 🤣
Remember this is 75 years old and never gets old! Comic genius!
Classic just as funny in 2019 as it was in 1945.
Yes, yes yes.
Not only that the show must go on his son died that day
@@pamelajordan5948 this isn’t the version from that show
70yrs later this happened, Los Angeles Dodgers have a first baseman named Hyu ( pronounced Who)
@cosmicVox13 when I saw that I fell of my bed laughing, my other half thought I was going nuts

There is a pitcher called Brandon John Morrow , if his first name was 'tom' we really would have a pitcher call tom-morrow.
Good to know
I never knew that! 😳🤣
I've seen a lot of people try to imitate this bit, both professional comics and amateurs, and none have come close to achieving the timing and understanding of it. No mistakes, not going off track, and doing it with conviction. This is one of the funniest comic bits ever made, and they were the best at it.
"Who's on Stage" by Slappy Squirrel and Skippy Squirrel on _Animaniacs_ comes close.
@@Wired4Life2 Yeah, it was funny. But to see it performed live without a script, extra takes, or someone controlling the audio is again, far more impressive. But yeah, funny and well scripted, but not close.
I disagree, Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal and a couple of other comedians did a great follow-on to “Who’s on First”, you should look it up. I say that as a long time fan of the old radio and movie comedy teams (I’m a boomer and some of them were still alive when I was a little kid watching them with my parents.)
@@captainnerd6452 I saw it when it aired. They changed the script, they had errors, they missed in their timing a bunch of times, the didn't do it at the incredible pace these guys did it, and they didn't act it as well. Sorry. Wrong...and I'm a boomer as well.
My brothers can word for word
One of my all time favorite skits.
Mine to
This is one of my favorite skits. So well done. Tim Conway and Harvey Korman are also hysterical.
Here's a little history on Who's On First. "Who's on First?" is Abbott and Costello's signature routine. Time magazine (December 26, 1999) named it the best comedy routine of the 20th century. The sketch was based on other earlier burlesque wordplay routines. They began honing the routine shortly after teaming up in 1936, and performed it in vaudeville acts in 1937 and 1938. It was first heard by a national radio audience on March 24, 1938 when the team were regulars on the Kate Smith radio show.[2] By then, John Grant had been writing or adapting other sketches for the team and may have helped expand "Who's on First?" prior to its radio debut. He stayed on as their head writer into the 1950s.
Depending upon the version, Abbott has either organized a new baseball team and the players have nicknames, or he points out the proliferation of nicknames in baseball (citing St. Louis Cardinals sibling pitchers Dizzy and Daffy Dean) before launching into the routine. The infielders' nicknames are Who (first base), What (second base) and I Don't Know (third base). The key to the routine is Costello's mounting frustration set against Abbott's unyielding formality. Audio recordings are readily available on the Internet.
A notable version is the first television performance on the 1951 Colgate Comedy Hour.
"Who's on First?" is believed to be available in as many as twenty versions, ranging from one minute to up to ten minutes. The team could time the routine at will, adding or deleting portions as needed for films, radio or television. The longest version is seen in "The Actors' Home" episode of their filmed TV series, running approximately eight minutes. A live performance commemorating the opening day of the Lou Costello Jr Youth Foundation in 1947 was recorded, and has been included in numerous comedy albums. The team's final performance of "Who's on First?" on TV was on Steve Allen's variety show in 1957.
They were a comedy team in the 40s. Classic comedy. Nothing dirty just good wholesome humor if you can keep up with them.
Probably one of the most famous comedy routines of all time.
Another one they did that is similar to this is Hurtz u drive
Abbott and Costello are the only two people who are NOT ball players that have been inducted into the baseball hall of fame for doing this routine
When my daughter was in high school, we were talking about something and she said something that triggered me to respond as if in this skit.
(It’s been 8-10 years ago now, she might have said “I don’t know” and I responded “Third Base”)
She looked very confused. But since she is generally patient with her mother’s variety of crazy, she allowed me the time to find a RUclips clip to show her. She laughed and enjoyed the humor.
The best part was, a few days later, one of her teachers made a passing reference to the skit, and she was so tickled to be the only one in class to get the reference 😎
Most definitely one of the most famous comedy routines of all time.
Many believe this is the greatest comedy skit ever written. It was performed by Abbott and Costello and their timing was flawless I remember listening to this as a kid and it never gets old.
Sounds like me trying to understand Medicare.
Try figuring out Medicaid and it is so much worse
Rita so true. Brand new to Medicare. (disability) Medicaid is an adventure to say the least.
@@carmenmcalistet5452 I am going through this with my mom who has dementia and having a hard time getting her approved. I am at the point where I am going to hire a lawyer because my mom is getting to the point where she needs extra care. She is not above the wage threshold so there is no reason for this
Oh man, my sister and I argue incessantly, were on the same side but Express it in asversarl ways. Drives me crazy.
Oh, sorry the above comment was meant for the general page. I too am on disability, and don't know what's going on. Talk about a state
ation of confusion.
Being the straight man is much more of a challenge. Abbott was so talented. His timing and delivery was just amazing. Much respect.
Blows my mind how they could go through that routine and both of them keep straight faces while the audience is busting up laughing!
Love Abbott & Costello!!!
I have a suggestion for ya, Ty. Do the chocolate factory conveyor belt scene from I Love Lucy’s, “Job Switching” episode. It’s one of the funniest television scenes ever!! 💁🏻♀️
Robin Kidwell, yesssss!! Hilarious!!
Ithil Nin yeah that’s a good one
Also, Lucy's "Viatmeatavegamin" commercial. Love it. 💕
That's my favorite I Love Lucy moment.
Oh my! This is one of my all time favorite’s. They are so funny & they don’t have to be dirty. 😂
I remember this...my dad laughed sooo hard. Good old funny without swear words...gotta love it 😁
I watched them when I was a kid, could have watched all day. They were so entertaining, the whole family could watch and everyone would be laughing out loud. Check out, Abbott and Costello handcuffs.
Love those guys! I started watching them with my Dad when I was a little girl. I still laugh and enjoy them to this day.I love all their movies.

That's why old folks watch you.. I'm 68 so In 1965 I was I was 14 and this was newer to me than my 2000 Caddy is now. Seeing your reaction, while We are laughing..... Is perfect. Keep it up. You are doing what the world needs..bringing people together with smiles.....
Thanks 👍
I knew you would enjoy this classic..their comedy routines where simply perfect..Clean and simple humour that lasts forever..Keep Well Keep Strong My Friend
On another note I appreciate what you do and say to people about getting help or asking for help when you need it. I also like that you encourage people to talk to someone when they feel like they want to do harm to themselves. I myself have been there before and was lucky enough to realize it was ok to ask for help from my family and friends. I had gotten better and felt more loved than ever, had things start going my way, my life was improving and then craps. My health started having issues and then my mom passed away. I'm on the edge right now but I'm trying not to let anything or anyone push me over that edge. When I watch channels like yours I get a laugh and feel better, so keep being yourself. You're a blessed soul and I hope one day I might get to meet you one day. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I found your channel when I was watching Weird Al videos.
They kept it straight and NO CUSS WORDS !!!!! They really are one of my Faves from back then.
I love love LOVE this akit. Has had me giggling since I was luttle. Yes I am that old. Well almost
Great skit, one their funniest skits
In my opinion
That version was the best. My son and his friend did this skit for a talent show when he was is 6th grade. The whole crowd laughed loud. And booed when they didn’t even place in top 3.!! The parents weren’t happy!! Which made me feel proud.!!
I did that skit in high school for a speech and drama competition. Love this!
Have heard this hundreds of times and I still get hysterical. And you're right. Conversations in real life can be just as ridiculous. 😂😂😂
Me and my girlfriend argue like this. I believe she does it on purpose inorder to win the argument. I'll get mad and say, 😡"That was another discombobulated rebuttal!" She'll say, "No it wasn't." I'll say, "Forget it!" She then walks away smiling.
The timing is just impeccable!
I love that it's funny and clean. It doesn't require a lot of foul language. It's funny and you wouldn't mind you kids listening.
Soooo funny! So much of TV and movie and comedians content these days is so inappropriate, but this was hilarious. Thank you!!!
Don't know how long you have had this channel but you sir you are a very talented man. You will be going places keep up the great work 👍.
I appreciate that!
Their timing was always on point which is what made it very funny
No, what's on second.
Heck of a memory for anyone!! Enjoy you💕
One of the rare people who realise the goodness of the previous era.
Watched some group reaction videos of Abbott & Costello but hated it. Sadly people of today seem to have dumbed down to such a level that they (excluding some like you) fail to spot the differences between the eras & just vainly keep laughing weirdly.
Honestly, appreciated your mindset & attitude in all your videos which I saw. God bless.
This is why when I get in one of those circular arguments with people I end up saying Third Base.
The later version added this bit: < Lou: "Who gets it?", Bud: "Naturally", Lou: "SAME AS YOU!!" >
When I'm in those circular arguments, I'm like "SAME AS YOU!"
This was well before my time. Timeless Classic!
I'm so happy you watched this one. It's the best.
So very glad you saw this!!!!
Johnny Carson did a version of this with himself playing the role of Ronald Reagan and the other person in the skit were making references to the political world leaders of the time
My senior year in high school, my friend and I performed this sketch. It was a nightmare to memorize.
Who's on First is one of the greatest comedy bits of all time. The next one you do is more modern. Top Soccer Shootout with Scott Sterling and Top Volleyball Blocks with Scott Sterling. You will NOT be disappointed.
This clip never gets old 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🌸
I always laugh at this. It's so clever too.
if you want another classic comedy routine that I'm sure you'll enjoy try
The Dentist from The Carol Burnett Show (full sketch)
please check Billy Lord "A KISS DON'T LIE" And Earl Thomas Conley "HOLDING HER AND LOVING YOU"
The verbal interplay is like a high-wire act of true precision. They honed this for years and it was always different - you s/also check it out from their TV series (where laughter is included)
Hey Ty. You've mentioned in some of your reaction videos that you have memories of the classical music you've heard in old cartoons. Well, I just watched the most amazing hour about Mel Blanc - the voice of Bugs Bunny. It covers his career and the era and developments in entertainment that you're getting into now with Abbot and Costello and I thought it might "connect a lot of dots" for you, historically speaking, and give you a better feel for what was going on at the time in American entertainment. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. :)
I've left a link below for you and anyone else that might enjoy watching it.

I love that you got the best version. Pretty much everyone else gets the later one that just doesn't have the energy seen here.
It's a shame comedy died off and left us with nothing but people stringing together vulgar language and fart noises.
MrClobbertime I remember spending a night at my aunt and uncles house in my early college days (mid 1980’s) and my uncle watching Saturday Night Live when Eddie Murphy was still fairly young and “new”... and my uncle saying that Eddie was actually quite funny all in his own and didn’t really need to use what passed as vulgar language back then. (Mind you, my uncle was probably in his early to mid-30s at the time)
@@tanya5322 I think one of Richard Pryor's funniest routines was about his elementary school class performing Rumplestiltskin as a play
Check out Weird Al Yankovic.
It's a shame that class died off and left us with snobs like you
Absolute Classic! Love it 🤣😊♥️♥️♥️
They actually would often change the specific details of the act to keep the argument feeling organic, so the popular 50s recording is tangibly different than this one.
Abbott and Costello are my favourite comedy act. In the 80s I showed this to a friend of mine, and he burst a gut laughing. Another great one is when Lou explains how 7 goes into 28, 13 times. People should check out their many movies.
Love The Honeymooners the show called learning to play golf . You’ll laugh till u cry
"Hellooooo ball!"
@@mrjohnnywheels nothing good as them on tv now grew up in the best time without knowing it
Isn't it amazing how we laughed our silly selves to death, in a room alone, or full of people, watching these comedians. No vulgar words or actions ,sex......love it,brings back memories
Grew up watching Abbott & Costello every weekend as a kid in the 70’s.
Back in the day, two of my friends did this skit in Creative Writing class. One thing I like about this skit: it proves you can be funny without swearing.
So funny. Always cracks me up.
bandit77. .too funny , don't know how they steadily continue on and on!
I can remember watching Abbott and Costello movies with my mum and laughing myself silly. So clean comedy. 👍👍👍💕
Costello is the short guy. I've been watching comedy like this all my life. My mother loved the old black-and-white movies and I grew up on them and love them as well. A lot of younger folks don't want to watch anything in black-and-white and won't watch unless it's in color, my son included. They're the ones losing out because, as you said, they are comedy gold. Those early movies, all different genres, from scary to gangster to funny to romance, are the best.
Abbot and Costello also famous for "The Susquehanna Hat Company" and "Niagara Falls" routines. Just say'n.
Niagra Falls skit that had me dying laughing as a kid
This version of Who's On First is from the film "The Naughty Nineties." It has several of their best routines. Definitely worth a watch.
Hey, Ty, have you watched the Three Stooges? Two of the best: Malice in the Palace and A-Plumbing we Will Go. They're hysterical!
That's hilarious thanks for the laugh lol
Hey bud, it would be pretty cool if you would react to some Laurel & Hardy content! Their shorts I would say for instance about 18-20 min. per say, they were a Comedy team that came before Abbott & Costello! And much better, imo! Just a recommendation, sir!😁👍🏻
If not only a clip of their work would be absolutely fantastic! Might I suggest “The Music Box” (1932)! #Laurel&Hardy
cosmicVox13 Thank you, man!🤗
Uh you saw the math one. Priceless stuff. When I've seen people try to do it it makes in comparison.
I ended up doing this routine with my father driving him nuts. He went to visit relatives in Ware, Massachusetts, but I didn't know that. So I asked him where he went last weekend, and he said "Ware." I said "don't ask me where you went, I'm asking you." He said "Ware," I said "I don't know where you went lasts weekend, that is why I am asking you -- where did you go??? He said "I went to Ware in Massachusetts." I said "I don't know where you went in Massachusetts, you tell me where you went, I'm not a mind reader..... and this went on and on -- it was so funny.
I Love Them I Used To Watch Old Films Every Saturday Night As A Kid With My Parents!! You Have To Watch “Arsenic & Old Lace”!! So Good!!
The best comedy bit of all time.
You must see the “Pick and Shovel” routine.
This is considered the most popular and best comedy routine of all time.
Thanks Ty. Just about the best comic team ever. Steve Allen had a show in the 50s and he lost it on live TV doing a skit sports reporter. I think it's funny.
A buddy and myself did this and several others of theirs in comic night at a bar in Virginia years ago. We won top prize most nights.
I love Abbott and Costello. Their movies were hysterical.
That skit is in the Baseball hall of fame!!!
That's one of the most classic skits of all time!
Good call, my man. Can't wait to see it.
So glad you are hearing this. One of my favs. Although befor my birth, most oflus know it from our parents.
That is old time and it was clean!! LMAO The math one was gold!!!
Performed that for a high school talent show many years ago. the six minute skit took us over 15 minutes we had the audience laughing so hard.
You should watch some of the old movies.
A&C meet the Wolfman.
A&C meet Frankenstein was their best, IMHO
This bit never gets old. From the 1800's!!!
2 people agreeing in an argument is called "Being in violent agreement"!! 😆😅😂
If you listen closely to this routine (which is from their 1945 movie “the naughty 90s”), the cameramen are on their laughing. They did a few retakes and they couldn’t get the camera meant to stop laughing so they just finally went with this take. They perform this routine thousands of times from 1936 until 1956. This is their most famous routine and as I mentioned earlier it’s considered the greatest comedy routine of all time. There were other routines in burlesque with similar wording but they made this one their own by adding their own lines.
You just witnessed one of the best comedy routines of all times
I usher at a theater and saw an amazing comedian Jeanne Robertson this past year before things have been closed. She's an older woman that is clean and clever. Her poundcake sketch about her husband left brain is so funny. She gives the audience a card with the recipe and leftbrains on the back. She also came down and took a picture with everyone that wanted one with her after the show. Before the show she even came down at our meeting and introduced herself to us and took pictures. She is an amazing woman. She also has a sketch about naked bungee jumping or the whitewater rafting with Baptists and so many other funny sketches. I admit I was surprised because I had never heard of her and left a fan.
Whaaaatttt?? your watching Abbott and costello!? that's AWESOME!! I am 30 years old and grew up watching all their movies. You should try "The time of their lives" :)
You should watch "Abbott and Costello at the restaurant long version"😁😁😁👏👏👏
"Who's On First" is actually in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. As you go through the museum, there's a room with benches to sit on and a screen where this routine is looped. Really cool!
You should watch the two Ronnies "four candles" and the one Ronnie "Blackberry isn't working"
Johan MB another classic!
One show that I wish you'd watch is a classic called Father knows best. It still comes on my tv every day for an hour and the lessons are still true to today. It had funny moments and it has lessons that should be taught today.
You should hear the “go ahead and back up” and “I’m a loafer” routines
Your reaction is fun to watch. I can see you really enjoyed this comedy routine. Abbott and Costello had perfect comic timing. Another funny scene is a scene called Pack That Grip from their movie ' Hit The Ice '.
You need to watch some Laural & Hardy. "Hog Wild" would be a good one to start with. Laural & Hardy trying to put up a radio antenna. What could possibly go wrong.
As much as I love the WHO’S ON FIRST routine, I am more of a MARX BROTHERS FAN. Look for “The Mirror Scene” from DUCK SOUP.
Sanity clause.
Besides Abbot & Costello, Marc Bros., Also Laurel and Hardy.
The Marx Brothers were a different kind of funny. They did "antics" Bud and Lou did situational routines. Laurel and Hardy did a lot of gag humor/pratfalls and generally simpleton type humor. All were very funny in their perspective renditions. I think the point is that they didn't have to be foul to be funny.
Dennis Mood Well, I always looked at Abbott and Costello as a low rent Three Stooges. In fact Moe said out loud that Lou Costello was just a rip off of Curley. The Marx Brothers were more anachronistic, but their comedy imo was smarter and much funnier. The Marx Brothers did have some winks at the camera moments, but they were never foul, but always funny (except for The Big Store and Love Happy). I think the big differences were that Abbott and Costello rarely worked on the big screen, but their half hour television show was fantastic. The Marx Brothers worked better on the big screen, not so much in television (except for Groucho on You Bet Your Life and What’s My Line).
@@herbyragan7801 Good points but don't forget that A & C worked on stage when vaudeville was still a viable means of entertainment. That being the case, they worked out their routines and honed their skills. I think Moe's comment was ill placed because each comedy group had their own style and brand of humor. IMO, all the comedy teams were funny in their own right. I enjoyed each of them, including Laurel and Hardy for different reasons because all their comedy was different from the others. Still, I guess it all comes down to individual taste and attitude. Your likes and dislikes don't have to be the same as mine to be right. (smile)
True American. Love all you do. Clean!!
This was just beyond a classic.. its referenced & loved to this day... amazing. Ive seen it a thousand times & it never gets old. My father loved this, & a gang called the Bowery Boys, this was always on in my home when i was a little kid.. love it 🖤
Only one word describes that skit, classic!
When I saw his instant smile I was like ya you know it’s gonna be good bro.
