Lyrics to the song:
Woke up and realized yesterday
Think it's a bummer end of the summer
Kinda nervous that we're almost there
At the days of awe
Prayers in a language that I don't know
Standing for hours and hours more
I wish that someone would please tell me-e-e-e
What it is we're praying for
Oh put me in the book of good life
I just wanna live the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, we've got feelings that we should fight
Make sure that we're choosing right
Gotta earn my own place in
The book of good life
Time for reflection on the past year
Time to figure out what we're doing here
Replace the guilt with inspiration
And everything is clear
Life in the present, the here and now
Easier than regret and planning out
Living in the moment, lasts for a moment
Got my future to think about
When you're sitting there in shul
Wishing it was over
You gotta take a beat
And let it all sink in
Oh put me in the book of good life
I just wanna live the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, we've got feelings that we should fight
Make sure that we're choosing right
Gotta earn my own place in
The book of good life
Hopefully
This year will bring us happiness and peace
Hopefully
Sensitivity to others will increase
Hopefully
We'll open our eyes and think more consciously
Cuz Hopefully
We'll go from where we are to where we want to be
Oh put me in the book of good life
I just wanna live the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, we've got feelings that we should fight
Make sure that we're choosing right
Gotta earn my own place in
The book of good life
Oh yeah
Book of Good life
Ooh
Listen
Time for reflection on the past year
Time to figure out what we're doing here
Replace the guilt with inspiration
And everything is clear
Life in the present seems more fun
Easier than regret, what's done is done
Living in the moment, lasts for a moment
Shana Tova to everyone
Lyrics By: Immanuel Shalev and David Block
Hard to believe it's been 11 years since this came out. I remember the day it showed up on RUclips.
I'm a 55 year old Christian woman and I am encouraging my 15 yr old granddaughter, my five grown children and everyone else I know to listen to these songs. I support Israel. Shalom.
I don't know if you guys actually read these comments, but I'll pretend. Today was my first genuinely good day after months of depression and anxiety. I didn't think about hurting myself or others while depressed, so I never sought help, but I laid around for days, doing nothing and trying not to think. For the last week, though, I've listened to this song before getting out of bed- and I'm not myself again, but I know I'll get there. I'm just happy that I have this song to make it easier.
🙏🙏🙏 you will feel better soon.
I also suffer from depression
I just found this song, and yes, we do read the comments. I hope you are well and are living a happy and hopeful life. 5785 is about to start, may you and yours be inscribed for a good year.
Love the spacesuit cameo for Noey!!!
Makes me feel nostalgic seeing a full shul on Rosh Hashana. Used to never be able to get a seat here in Auckland, New Zealand now theres empty seats everywhere... I WANT MY JEWS BACK! It was so cool to see the maccabeats here, next time come and stay for good!
I am not Jewish but I LOVE this music and the messages in the lyrics. I keep finding myself humming a bass line in harmony. GREAT music guys. Keep it up! maybe one day we can have a real peace in the world.
I love this song.
From start to finish, beautiful.
This is my favorite Maccabeats song. I wish it was available on Spotify.
Very beautiful! Especially the part where everyone is in synagogue praying. It brought tears to my eyes! This song is to the point! Rosh Hashana is about finding out what where praying about, and not just wishing it were over!
Onerepublic: Great original. Maccabeats: That's how you make the pursuit of pleasure turn into something beautiful, authentic and meaningful. Bravo. My favorite contrast: One republic says "hopelessly", you say, "hopefully"
This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. Please g-,d may we have a sweet new year where our sensitive to others will increase.
i think this video builds respect for one's culture and faith. I love, love, love, the Greek boys becuz it shows that there is respect for those outside the box. the Greek boys are great!!!!
Thanks Maccabeats guys for doing this song and for making this song video. I love it!
I came to youtube looking for musice by cole porter but clicked on your video and was blown away. I love your music and your sound. You don't need to know my religion but I will tell you anyway. I am a born again Christian and your music is universal because music is universal. Todah rabah.
I'm not Jewish, but this song still inspires me to live the best life I can every day and kick my depression in the butt. Thank you.
During the fall we Celebrate the Civil New Year, we confess offenses & forgive each other in preparation for Yom Kippor.
I know it’s been a year but I’m so glad you found something that makes you feel energised!
Gotta share this before Rosh Hashana‼️‼️ Love It❣️❣️🙌🏻🙌🏻👌👌
This song is on replay all morning..it keeps me focused that we got to make a change for the better because the new year is around the corner.. love the lyrics!!!
I Love these Guys. I am 60 Years old and a christian, this music give me joy! Keep up the good work.
Taking a song that's already good and making it even better, along with imparting good life advice. This is why these guys are so good.
I LOVE this song and love the Maccabeats work!! I listen to it even when we arn't in this season of Ha SHem's appointed season.
Nonetheless, I have to smile broadly watching this. Most of the the "choices" that were changed is simply "not being a selfish pig" Think of others. They are simply good manners . Simple common courtesy. Like common sense, both are getting rarer and rarer!
Thanks for this video, we need grounding at least once a year!
this video just shows that no matter how many people try to stand up agianst us... or try to show that we are no good .... we will always prevail :) thank you maccabeats.... thumbs up if you agree
What a great song with a very positive message for the new year. La Shana Tovah! Keept the music coming!
Needed this song today with all the hate we are facing right now. Thank you for boosting my hope. ❤
I love that the song is great and that the video tells a relateable and simple story. One of your best videos ever!
I am not Jewish. I am Christian (though some Christians say I'm not...I'm Mormon), but this is a message that you don't have to be Jewish to appreciate. So, stop arguing about religion, and start thinking about being a good person. Great job, Maccabeats! I watch all your videos and love how devoted you are to your faith.
So love revisiting this each year.
I am not religious...I LOVE the Maccabeats. Very good inspiring songs!
This music makes me happy and hopeful, joyful.
Love your music, words, vocals, guys. This one and Candlelight are my favorites. Shana Tova.
I love these guys. Love the Acopella
Using this track and video for my A.R.K Project, teaching young people to define kindness through themselves, I knew this song was perfect. Although I look less professional dancing in the corner whilst they watch. This song was a major inspiration for the project and I smile every time I hear one of students singing it now.
What a deeply moving and uplifting song! Jewish culture is so positive! :)
@michalishapiro I went last year and LOVED LOVED LOVED it! I fell in love with Israel and the Jewish people reading the "Old Testament" when I was a kid and after being in Israel the love is even stronger. G-d is so great! The Israeli Jews are some of the loveliest people I have ever met. I love that you encourage reading of the Torah - you rock! Shalom to you!
thank you guys! you make us proud to be Haredi Jews showing our true mission in the world: spread peace, respect and tolerance. happy hanukka to everyone
I don't think they are Heredi. They are clearly Modern Orthodox (or National Religious).
Happy Hanukkah! 🕎
Great! Just great how much love is flowing through all the videos of the Maccabeats! G-d bless them!
Another "10" guys! Thanks so much! We feel so blessed. My son was clapping with the song and watched it 5 times in a row. He's three and I've been teaching him about the feasts and Jewish customs. You songs help me do this! We don't know your names so we gave you each a Hebrew name so my son "knows" each of you, haha. Ca't wait for your next one. shalom!
Love this... it is so beautiful! Shalom.
The best part is that the message is so universally understood. Love you guys forever and for always
Maccabeats are great singers ! Iris U.S.A
:-) Shalom! :-)
I love how the Greeks keep randomly showing up in the different videos.
I just want to thank you for your wonderful music, and for using your talents to praise our Creator. I'm not Jewish...just a practicing Catholic who happens to be a music teacher. I have been happy to share your work with my students, and will continue to do so. May your work continue to be blessed!!
Shana tovah everyone
Speaking of Good Life, I was upset about something recently, but I found that it's better to let go of negative feelings and don't let it get me down. We should enjoy what we have and that helps to have a good life, Shana Tovah
We have a CHOICE. We can bless the Almighty, ourselves, our neighbors and even our enemies, and life. Or we can curse the same, the power of life and death resides in the tongue.
The Maccabeats just popped into my head and so I've just been checking out their songs and didn't realise it's Rosh Hashanah tonight. This song has blessed me. Thank you.
Still my favorite video you guys have ever made. It's just great. Shana tova!!
you guys were awesome
Nice video and cool song. Enjoyed. Glad to see I made it into two or three shots inside the shul. Thanks for the opportunity to be in your video.
So wonderful to hear such positive music instead of the garbage out there. Bravo!
Jewish culture is so clean and positive! I wish more Americans could learn a thing or two from their people! :)
@@ArnoldTeras like you, hope more Americans take on your attitude, G-d bless you
I love this song and this video. I had watched this video twice already today and I will be watching this video more times in the future. I want to live the good book life too! What a neat song.

We love each other. We’re cousins.
You will surely find the most bitter towards the believers to be the Jews and polytheists and the most gracious to be those who call themselves Christian. That is because there are priests and monks among them and because they are not arrogant.
I'm hate Jews, especially the Zionist
I like listening to their music. The songs brighten the atmosphere and put you in a good mood.
Is it me or does it look like the guy at 2:25 is married to a teenager? She does not look older than 20, haha. And yes, married, because orthodox Jews don't date in any conventional sense and do not eat meals one-on-one with people of the opposite sex. I love this video, though, because it shows these people living normal lives and interacting in the secular world and everything and it has a great digestible message.
Could be his sister :)
Haha, that is true. They are not aloud to socialize one-on-one with their cousins (so I suppose going the WVa road to romance is out) but they are aloud to socialize one-on-one with their siblings. Orthodox Judaism is super weird but I met these guys when they came to perform in my town and they're pretty cool..
okonh0wp
I think Orthodox Judaism is cool and amazing, I'm very thankful for it! I'm not Jewish but... I know it takes some understanding to really know what they're doing and why... but it's truly a treasure in this world :)
I think some sects of Orthodox Judaism (Modern Orthodox, which is what most of the Maccabeats would define themselves as) are great and should be praised, but there is a dark side to some of the other sects and I even think they're dangerous (unpious dot com has some good accounts of this). I also don't think I'm like a bad or illegitimate Jew for not following all 613 of the commandments to the letter like they do
okonh0wp
There are definitely problems in the Jewish community, but Orthodox Judaism itself is in my experience a blessing. This is where you'll find people who are unwilling to compromise on the commandments because they want to be that close to Hashem, and it shows very deeply in their lives and their families, even though it's so counter-cultural. Not all ultra-Orthodox Jews are racist or hypocritical, and many... a few of whom I've met, and the people around them... make me realise that I want to live like that as well. You kind of have to see how precious it is in their lives, in their families, and the blessing it is to countless people around them, to get that.
Modern Orthodox Jews also believe in keeping the commandments, which to me makes sense because if they're from our Creator then they pretty much matter... but I know it's complicated/hard. I'm really considering becoming Jewish and I wouldn't do so unless I meant to really keep the laws and even the relevant customs of whatever community I was serving Hashem with and within. Anyway, I think that Modern Orthodoxy loses A LOT in its ultra-leniency, but also one of my teachers whom I respect extremely deeply and learn a lot from is closer to MO for a number of important reasons in his life. Thank God that you guys have this ongoing conversation about how to best turn your intentions in actual actions of what is right and not what is wrong in each detail, in the big picture. Even though we may only know in the future what was the best thing to do now, may He bless it now already!
I have a religouus mom and my brother isnt really religous and neither is my father however i go to a public school in New Jersey and i wear my kippah and all my motivation is right in my heart and i love my religon and i plan to wear my kippa for the next 120+ yrs and i plan to leave jersey in a few yrs and go to crown heights where i can learn torah and become a chabad rabbi

Ha ha at the lost Greek guy! Thanks for another great song & video!
Can most Jews in America actually speak Hebrew? Why or why not?
Falamu445 Most Jews I know speak Hebrew, for myself I speak Yiddish. It depends on where you come from....
+Jennifer Brower Is there a difference?
+Falamu445 It depends on how you're raised. I don't speak Hebrew or Yiddish, but my dad knows Yiddish and I know several other Jews who do know Hebrew.
+Falamu445 Most of my jewish friends speak Hebrew. They learn it in school. I learned it in Israel because I was there for 5 months a few years ago..
I think this is my favorite song by the Maccabeats. It might even be my favorite song all together!
