Worked at a Ford dealer in 69-70 was 18 years old at the time. These cars were all over the lot at the time. I worked in the wash rack and prepped new cars for the salesman. Making $2 an hour. It was pure torture moving these cars around the lot knowing I couldn't afford these screamers but three years later in 73 I bought a nice 70 Mach1 351C ram air 4 speed car I still own today. Its original unrestored and still takes trophies today.
Thank you for the great test drive, you drove it like it's supposed to be driven! What a beautiful car! When I hit the lottery Vanguard will be my first stop.
I would give my left goober for this awesome ride. My VERY favorite body style. Unfortunately, poor people have poor ways, as my Grandaddy used to say. But, even we poor people can appreciate such great cars such as this one. DANG!! That thing looks good !
I'm a Mopar guy but I agree. Ford had great styling in that era. A lot of beautiful designs came from Dearborn in the mid to late 60s and early 70s. Always wanted a 66-67 Fairlane 427 or a 70 Cyclone Spoiler 429 SCJ. Wouldnt mind owning a 63 1/2 or 65 Galaxie 427 either. I love the Ford FE 427 engine. What a monster
I'm a Mopar guy but the 70 Cyclone Spoiler 429SCJ is my all time favorite muscle car ever built by Ford. Especially with the 4 speed and the Drag Pack option. What a beauty!!! Always wondered why Ford never built a BOSS 429 Torino/Cyclone. Also loved the 68-69 428CJ and SCJ Cyclone/Torino/Fairlane, and any Ford equipped with the radical, race ready R-Code dual quad 427 from 63-67. But the 427 was too radical to drive every day on the street, unlike the 428, which was a very good, reliable street engine that still made great power
Ford did build a BOSS Cyclone for Nascar, they just never sold them. The 429 BOSS engine was only sold to the public to comply with Nascar rules. Once they sold enough Mustangs with the engine in them they were allowed to compete with it, so they never needed to sell it again. The street version is very different and much less powerful than the race engines, since the 429 was only ever meant to run wide open. A true race tuned Nascar 429 BOSS would stall out due to lack of airflow while idling at a stop sign after coming down from high rpm, or would have to idle excessively high. The track engines also only get proper air cooling when going over 100mph. The Cobra Jets, Super Cobra Jets, Eliminators, Cyclones, Windsors, Clevelands, and even 302s already owned every dragstrip since 67 to the extent they practically had the deeds to the land, Ford had no reason to accept the liability of pushing a track only engine to the public
The boss 429 was designed for the torino but bunky knudsen told the engineers "put it in the Mustang" which is why they were completed by Kar kraft...the modification required to shoe horn the boss 429 into the Mustang couldn't be done on the assembly line.
I am looking for a 1965 - 67 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT White w/red striping 390 factory HP. While looking I found the YT on the '70. Awesome job and video. My colors too since I was born at the home of the OSU Beavers, Corvallis' Oregon! But I also found another gem that would look good behind my motorhome (In a trailer). I will keep hunting.
Ford should've used the Talladega and Cyclone Spoiler 2 to homologate the BOSS 429 instead of a Mustang. Would've been a better balanced package. The BOSS 429 made the Mustang so front heavy that it's probably one of the worst handling muscle cars of that era.....although it's still the baddest Mustang ever made imho
Sounds like my car: 1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler 429 cj, 4 spd, competition yellow (original paint), black comfortweave interior (original uncracked dash). I have owned her for 20 years. I wish RUclips would let me share a pic with you.
This car was more of men type than boys! The styling, the factor, the performance... All was super agressive! Hey #Vanguardmotorsales atleast let us know in how much it got sold! Just wanted to have an idea, so that we can plan too!
AWESOME 429 BEAST....600 hp...I dont doubt it one bit. I Had the 71 version, sadly only had a cleveland....but still ran great.......same ugly color...
I had Bought my Competion Orange, Cyclone GT in 1970, Had the 351 Cleveland 11:1 comp. Canted Gauges. THEN, I went and Got a DWI in it !!! Couldn't Afford the Insurance and had to Sell it. What a Dumb Shit I Was !!!

Thank you for the great test drive, you drove it like it's supposed to be driven! What a beautiful car! When I hit the lottery Vanguard will be my first stop.
Nothing quiet about the BOSS 429 but baby did they make power. Nice restoration, well done, cherry attention to detail, excellent job.

One of my dream vehicles. Ford had some of the best looking vehicles on the market back in the 60's and 70's

Always felt like Ford should've built a BOSS 429 Torino Cobra and Cyclone Spoiler in 1969-70
Beautiful car. Never understood why the Boss 429 wasn't fitted to Cyclone's and Torino's by the factory.

God I love these, music to my ears. I always loved the front ends on these and a 429Boss 4speed this is the ultimate cruiser👍😊
How could anyone choose a Chevelle over this lol This Merc is the easily one of the very best and unique looking muscle cars of all time!
comparing a chevelle to a mercury is absurd when the buick skylark exists
as Mr Burns from the tv show , The Simpsons would say, and i quote "EXCELLENT"......
Boss 429's rule the world!!!!!!

There is NOTHING LIKE these anywhere, never was.
And on the rack next to this, a 68 GT 500. Behind 70 Mach 1. That's a start for a great collection.
Mopar is King of the muscle car era, but this thing is BAD ASS!!! Love the styling of the 70-71 Cyclone
I'm Mopar guy also = But my Dad Bought a 70 Cyclone gt = Auto and 351 Cleveland = BAD Asss Car = And it got the Looks
Should have been a factory option!
My Dad was a zone manager for Lincoln Mercury he brought home a new 68 orange CJ428 Cyclone I think it would have out run this Boss.

These are the type of cars that I'd get a mortgage for.

My '68 was Calypso Coral and shined like a diamond. I do wonder what this car was going for, considering the engine. One of these days.
It sold for around $80,000.
Maybe you can set the camera up so we can see the 4 speed along with the road!
Magnificent!
Breaking the tyres loose...sweet !!
