I was at the the December 9, 1967 game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum against the Green Bay Packers, two-time defending NFL champions. What a comeback! Gabriel will always be my favorite QB.
I'm sure I seen that game 10 yrs old. I was stationed in Camp Pendleton in 75 & finally hot to go to the Coliseum for a game inOct 75. Marlins last yr. Dream come true ,,love Gabe & Deacon..
The rams should have never ditched those sweet blue&white uniforms they were the NFL version of the Detroit red wings or the New York Yankees it was a simple but classic uni that stood out.
In the early 1970’s we didn’t have a team in Seattle so the LA Rams were my team and Roman Gabriel was my favorite player, and he still is. I absolutely loved his 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 football cards.
I remember I played QB in my youth days. Growing up playing and watching in Los Angeles the Quarterback Roman Gabriel was the star. He is big as John Wayne in those days . It seems like the Hall of Fame didn't like the rugged men of the NFL , Gabriel was a beast on the defensive tacklers then his rocket arm on the Rams and the Eagles. What a legend he was a big in fluence in Los Angeles football. An example he was helping develop Banning High/Rams legend Vince Ferragamo
Thank you you're a true football fan like me being Adam fan I still love the history of all the N F L teams even the Viking I love it when you guys played at home blistering cold back in the day it goes together real Viking always felt w/ the wintery weather
From a Rams fan since 67. Right back at the purple people eaters. You guys were amazing with Kapp n d boys n tark too. I was at d mud bowl with no umbrella. Much respect for the whole organization n history. My uncles n cousins got me n d 60s n 70s.
Informative but a couple of corrections. John Hadl (pronounced HAY-dle) was older (by about 6 months) than Roman Gabriel not younger. Hadl was the Chargers starting QB from the mid 60's to early 70's. He was pretty good too!
5:55 John Hadl was 5 months OLDER than Roman Gabriel. Before coming to the Rams, John Hadl was the San Diego Chargers starting quarterback in 10 of his 11 seasons in San Diego where he was named to the Pro Bowl 5 times.
Still Roman Gabriel was much more popular in Los Angeles as a Rams Quarterback. I watched them both in the Coliseum as Rams QB's John Hadl probably had better statistic's because they threw a lot more maybe faster receivers Jackson. Gabriel was a better Hall of Fame candidate than Hadl was too short as Gabriel stood at 6'5' throwing under pressure tackles hanging on his legs a different breed of player.
Roman was not thought of as a "minority" quarterback during his career just because his mother was Filipino. No one thought in those terms at the time but its a big deal now.
8:06 this is factually wrong. Marion Motley started 10 games in 1946, Night Train Lane started 12 games in 1952, etc. Jim Thorpe anyone? First quarterback maybe, but Gabe was far from the first minority starter in the NFL.
That's like saying Mike Tyson didn't box long enough and got knocked out by Buster Douglas. So Tyson and Gabriel were both studs in there profession at the top athletes in their time period. Gabriel was the Mike Tyson of NFL football not in the NFL Hall of Fame. You must live under a rock not to see talent or what?
IM NOT SAYING HE'S A HALL OF FAMER BUT THE GUY DID PLAY 16 YEARS...HE WAS VERY VERY GOOD BUT THE HOF IS FOR THE BEST OF THE BEST PEOPLE SEEM TO MISS THAT POINT
I remember him as a good, strong, tough quarterback but a "person of color" or some kind of racial trailblazer? You go to be kidding! James Harris and Doug Williams? Sure! But this guy? No way!
I became a Ram fan in the fall of 1966 when I was seven years old. Roman Gabriel is my one and only sports hero.

Merlins
Roman Gabriel should be in the NFL Hall of Fame. Absolutely !!!
The rams should have never ditched those sweet blue&white uniforms they were the NFL version of the Detroit red wings or the New York Yankees it was a simple but classic uni that stood out.
As a kid that's what attracted me to the team. I lived in Chicago but always had a Rams #18 uni..
Carroll Rosenbloom never liked them when he owned the colts. So when he acquired the rams he went back to their original colors before 1966
P.s. I remember the public thought the blue n whites were boring. However guys like Roman n Fred Dryer liked the blue n whites.

6'4" &220,he was as big as John Wayne too.
Same here homes
As a boy,the Rams were my team & Roman was my Qb. Rams were good in the late 60s & fun to watch. Deacon & Roman were my favorites..
How he isn’t in hof shocks me. He dominated the role of Qb from1966 to 1977.
my favorite of all time too..
One my favorite Ram players. 😊🏈🏈🏈
Much respect for roman gabriel..this from a vikings fan..
Great games with you guys. Got relatives n MN. Much respect for the noresmen

Put him in the HOF!! HE WAS A DAMN FINE PLAYER!!
Big big fan growing up even here in Detroit. 🏈👍
(6:01) John Haydl, long "a," not haddle.

Roman Gabriel is one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks to ever play the game. No doubt about it. The Hall of Fame is a bunch of bullshit.
I second that motion would've been better w/better offense line
Long-time Gabriel fan but that thumbnail still makes me cry since I saw it live at the age of 8. lol
Glad the teams brought back the white horns
After his trade to the eagles, the rams had a number of quarterbacks in the 1970's and 1980's.
So he's Irish and Filipino he was a decent QB. God bless him

Maybe a Hall of famer if he played longer and won a Super Bowl

"Equality has still not been fully established"??????? Gotta disagree with you there. Otherwise, good video of my favorite player ever.
Tua is Pacific Islander which is similar to Asian he should be good just like Roman Gabriel.
I think hadl was the oldest between him and gabriel but I will fact check it.
I remember him as a good, strong, tough quarterback but a "person of color" or some kind of racial trailblazer? You go to be kidding! James Harris and Doug Williams? Sure! But this guy? No way!
With all due respect I would take Jim plunkett over him they had similar careers in some ways but plunkett passes him with two rings and a sb mvp.
I loved him and them - THE RAMS. What a team, THE NAMES on the D?!!!! PS, my older sister had a crush on RG!!!! True story!!!!
So did George Allen's Daughter. She named her sons after Roman & Deac
I just found out I’m related to this guy he died 2 years before I was born
I believe he is still alive no????
Roman Gabriel's name sound like Querterbacks name if you know whati mean he's NFL household name!!!!
I like that when you look up QB you'll see Roman Gabriel picture in the dictionary why is he black listed from the H O F ?
Samoans are not asian , they're native pacific islanders ..
Marcus mariota was a bust after about two years.
He ain’t a minority. Irish/Philippine. I’m Irish/South African and ain’t a minority.
When Fort Knox arrived as coach for Rams he brought in Pat Haden
"Barely sneaking into the playoffs"? They clinched with weeks to go. smh
Person of COLOR?
Define color.
he's half Filipino. thats a half breed dude.
The Cowboys won Sept 30 1962 YAY!!!!! GO COWBOYS...he was the first minority QB to be sacked...by a DALLAS COWBOY.
My 70's Steelers beat those bum 70's Cowboys lol. We still have the most Super Bowl wins of all time. Dallas Cowboys who???? 😂😂
Professionalism? He was in so many controversies it was not funny.
He was the offensive leader and heart and soul of George Allan 's Rams.
Felony Strutter that’s news to LA Ram fans. Nobody had a bigger impact on the Rams success in Los Angeles.
What controversies? Be specific!
