Rotating Bale Grapple: Lewco TBH18 (works with New Holland Bale Wagons)

  • This isn't your standard hay grapple, like a Maxilator. It's meant to work with New Holland bale wagons, instead of an accumulator. This is made by Lewco and can move 18 bales at a time from a balewagon-made stack, to the trailer. The particular model I have can rotate, allowing me to tie-in bales on the trailer. Today we look at taking advantage of the rotating function and using the headland management function in my Massey Ferguson 6616 tractor.
    Moving tons of hay isn't something many people are excited about. For that reason, many people turn to large square or round bales. However, many people still prefer small square bales. That's where bale or hay grapples come in. When help is hard to find, a bale grapple can be a low-cost way to reduce the amount of manual labor needed to move small square bales.
    If you're interested in this type of bale grapple, you can find Lewco online at thebalehandler.com/Small_Bale_...

    I spoke with a friend who is an ER doc in Australia. He said he gets regular visits of people with stuff in the eyes. Always always always wear eye protection is what he told me. looks liek you are ahead of the curve.

      That's exactly right, eye protection is key. After getting brake cleaner in my eyes years ago, I've always been mindful of it.

    Underneath the floormat on the right side is a metal plate you can remove to get to 2 large plugs and plastic covers to get cables into the cab and under the cover to the right of the seat is a 6pin (I think) DEUTSCH connector which run the H3 H4 Soft ride and some other 12V signals (at least in the EU version)

      Thanks for the info, I'll take a look into it. It would be nice to get a cleaner installation than through the cable hole under the rear window.

      You seem pretty well versed in MF tractors, do you have any experience with T153 error codes?

    • @reemkoG
      @reemkoG 2 года назад +1

      On my error Code List are only 4 Number T Codes
      T4153 is an issue with hot oil. You can Check the trans temp in your dashboard
      T5153 is an issue with the difflock valve

    I just pick the bales up straight on and pick them up from the side if I want to cross them

    Why don't you run the turn cylinder off the rear SCV?

    • @Xealuz
      @Xealuz  2 года назад

      Good question. I certainly could have, but I would have had to run two very long hoses from the back of the tractor all the way to the attachment point on the loader. Then, I would have to disconnect those hoses from the grapple and the rear of the tractor if I need the scv's. The valve was $165, I bet I would spend a decent amount of that if I bought 2 really long hoses. In hindsight, I wouldn't have bought the flat-face couplers...

    Have you put it to work yet? I am thinking of going this way in a season or two. Would like to hear around your experience.

      @@Xealuz I check in from time to time to see if you have a video... Been keeping an eye out for a 18 bale grapple. Hard to find. Expensive to order. The way I want to use it makes sense in my head. Only seen a few examples on youtube though.
      Understandably, hard to post videos in middle of season. I havent posted in a long time. Working at a job and doing hay kind of takes out the time and energy.

      I'm in the same boat as you, regular job, farm, family... YT has to take the back seat. It's frustrating because I film stuff but can't get it put up. Anyways, not sure where in NE your at, but I see one close to Laramie on FB messenger. m.facebook.com/marketplace/item/913330699485353/?ref=browse_tab&search_query=Lewco&tracking=%7B%22qid%22%3A%226988711161648236420%22%2C%22mf_story_key%22%3A%223361327330640258%22%2C%22commerce_rank_obj%22%3A%22%7B%5C%22target_id%5C%22%3A3361327330640258%2C%5C%22target_type%5C%22%3A0%2C%5C%22primary_position%5C%22%3A-1%2C%5C%22ranking_signature%5C%22%3A0%2C%5C%22commerce_channel%5C%22%3A503%2C%5C%22value%5C%22%3A0%7D%22%7D

      Checked out that link. Nearly exactly what I'm looking for. There's another one around Chadron. Looks like I'll have to keep my searches extended beyond eastern Nebraska. (1hr from Omaha).
