- A live public forum in Dayton, Ohio held on October 1, 2005, featuring television pioneer Phil Donahue and Amy Goodman, independent journalist and host of the news program "Democracy Now!". Speaking out on the current troubled state of our media system, discussion ranged over a number of topics, including the increasing commercialization of our media system and the threats posed to truly independent journalism and the role it was envisioned to play by our nation's founders. Also discussed were specific examples of how the mainstream media system is co-opted to be a conduit for government propaganda, and the tragic consequences this can have for the future sustenance of our democratic system.

State media would resemble FOXNEWS if a Republican were president. There is nothing tantamount on the Democratic side. NPR is fairly neutral actually. See the Annenberg School or Univ. of MD for more analysis.
I don’t think Amy looks at her own actions as being brave or heroic. I don’t think I’m being glib here when I say Amy Goodman is one of these people who feel they don’t really have a choice. There is no choice. There never was. She must do what she does and betrayal of her conscience was never an option. She’s a true believer.

The use of False flag events to prove your points are killing this country. They are demeaning to the people who voted for you. Anyone who gets an opportunity to speak with a public official or a media personality should ask this question first. Look them squarely in the eye and using your loudest and clearest voice ask, “What is your net worth?”

Despite my experience of him as a day time "reality" TV talk show host, I was not, initially, adverse to Phil Donahue as the interviewer. The segment, however, turned out to be more a soap box for Mr. Donahue as he dominated the stage w/ superficial rhetoric which would have been more appropriately directed to an audience of persons new to ideas, experiences and points of view of those "on the left". Mr. Donahue, himself, stated he was "preaching to the choir" yet persisted in his rather verbose grandstanding for the studio audience - leaving Ms. Goodman sitting mute in her chair. What an unfortunate, missed opportunity to hear considerably more from an earnest, conscientious and courageous woman who has been in the trenches for decades working tirelessly to bring to the fore causes she refuses to allow to remain hidden.
I think it's a good mix of personality. Even find Amy a bit dry and u commercial after a while, I think this is a good mix. But yeah she should have been the host
