The old format works well for the big names. The new format means those young, more unknown surfers who are not alpha dogs in the lineup get their chance at the best waves. We had 36 competitors. That's not easy to get the best waves if you're a timid unknown surfer.

Great surfers and obviously entertaining, but the best thing about Stab High was the lack of timed heats and no tournament format. Leave that to the WSL. This just doesn't have that same raw feel of a strike mission/competition hybrid that the earlier seasons had.

Surfing air tricks are Stupid.
Air moves come from skateboarding, where you have a fixed solid landing spot.
To do an air on a wave, you are sacrificing your knees, ankles , legs to a gamble.
What will you land on?
You don't know.
Airs have ruined the health of the greatest surfer on this generation John John Florence.
The WSL does not care if a surfer is able to continue riding the wave, they give Felipe Toledo a 10 for jumping in the air and then straightening out.
If you want to see great airs, go to a skatepark.
If you can't continue making the wave after an air, the it sucks.
