@@thorny8013 The power you buy from money only lasts until the fear of no money runs out. Before i knew that the hand on the shoulder at 0:47 was an improvised from tomhardy, i used to think, what scary and powerful gesture it was , that small hand movement was so sick 🔥 Later when i came to know that it was improvised my respect for tom hardy increased even more! Shows such a talented actor he is!
It absolutely shows how powerful Bane is as a person. It wasn't a hand closed around the shoulder, it wasn't a closed fist, it was an open palm, facing upwards, which traditionally is more of a submissive gesture. Imagine having that kind of reputation and fearsome brutality, that an open palm gently resting on someone's shoulder is enough to put the fear of God into them!
'All power, whether legal, political, religious or financial, is ultimately a cloak for naked force. Sometimes people need to be reminded of that fact.' -Caine
The helper is thinking..."Wait... What is this going to do for my career and upward mobility? I did NOT spend all that time kissing butt for nothing! I'll go get Bane a fruit basket now."
Bane was f'n terrifying. Such an underrated performance. The best part is when he gently lays his hand on his shoulder "Do you feel in charge?" "If in charge feels like shitting your pants then yes."
It took me years to realize that Daggett's flunky had been working for Bane all along and knew perfectly well what Bane was doing with Daggett's assets. Probably even helped Bane issue orders to those crews himself. This scene was not him choosing to abandon Daggett. He'd already done that long ago. This was him finally deciding to let his boss know the truth.
Bane is so strong that him resting his hand on his shoulder changed that dudes entire attitude because it felt like Bane placed a 20 pound dumbbell on his shoulder haha
Tarkin: I’m afraid these recent security breaches have laid bare your inadequacies as a military director. Krennic: The breaches have been filled. Jedha has been silenced. Wendy's Manager: Back to work! Me: **Turns to other employees** Leave us! Wendy's Manager: Uhh...why are you all obeying the new guy I'm the manager I'm in charge! Me: **Place back of palm on guy's shoulder** Do you feel in charge?? Wendy's Manager: **Meek voice** I'm paying you minimum wage... Me: And this gives you power over me?
And then manager calls the police for assault and you go to jail. Pretty sure it's not gonna be like the warlord cave prison. No, it'll be Bubba and Pookie trading your butt for cigarettes. In that terrible moment, you will find your value. And you'll note your value isn't anywhere near what you thought it was.
Had a similar convo with my boss the other day. He had the assumption that 'he' pays me, so I need to work as much as he thinks I should work. "No. I work for a single pay rate not 2. I show up for the work. You pay me. This is not rocket science or a magic show".
This scene is why the Nolan batman films were so amazing. This scene right here showed why Bane is terrifying. Not really his muscles, not his tactical skills or planning abilities. No, he manages to be, purely, to the dictionary definition of the word, intimidating. He never says anything remotely loud or violent. He never hints at anger, or frustration, as if what he's about to do isn't wrong. The man he kills is a terrible person, and the fear that takes hold of his face is so amazingly powerful that you forget what he stands for, and are reminded that the powerful are only that way because our systems were designed to make them that way. And the scene I think is better for the muffled scream and whimper. Snapping a neck can be quick and painless but it usually isn't, if the spinal cord isn't cleanly snapped, you'll drown in your own blood as your spin slices through your lungs and you'll be conscious for anywhere from several seconds to a full minute as you feel yourself dying. While a minute is a relatively quick death in the grand scheme of things, that scream points out how long and painful a minute really can be. And I think it gets to the heart of fear, it doesn't show us the harm, instead forcing us to imagine it. Now if they cut the scene a couple seconds early and just didn't include any sound, we'd still have to imagine what happened. But with this, we don't have to think about what happened, we know what happened, but instead of seeing it, the sound forces us to picture, much deeper than just seeing it done, while also not diminishing bane to just a psychopath, seeing him do it would make us see him as a lunatic, but by cutting away, it keeps this air of sophistication that he perpetuates, he does things because he wants to, but he is also knowledgeable and intelligent. He is the definition of a villain in every way. While the Joker was terrifying because he spoke to the maniac we're all afraid of, Baine speaks to the plotting generals and super terrorists that have kept us awake since the earliest wars in human history. Hannibal and Ceasar kept many men up at night as they tried not to think of the suffering they would endure as their best laid defenses were deconstructed piece by piece and them being unable to stop the force coming for them.
It helps that Ben Mendelsohn is a fantastic actor, my favourite Aussie actor in fact. So glad he has been getting the recognition he deserves this past decade.
LOL what utter BS , please explain to the class how exactly your spine is going to "slice" through your lungs? You might want crack open an anatomy book before you say things like this.
1:21 that soft whimpering childlike utterance of "no" is one of the most heart-dropping parts of this movie. If you are a very empathetic person you will feel for this man deeply.
You shouldn’t. That man has more than likely done unforgivable things in his life going based off his current status. He was a greedy man who has probably ruined so many lives, tried to take over Wayne Enterprises, and paid Bane to do his dirty work causing Bane to easily go through with his plan for Gotham without any major problems for the most part.
I agree with young grizzly's sentiments, just the fact that the director chose to not show the actual act yet allowed the audio and the reaction made it more horrific and heartbreaking. When we become as shallow, cold and numb as the evils portrayed here, where does humanity begin and end?
one of my favorites is jokers " an unstoppable force meets and immovable object" i thought what a line to describe joker and batmans relationship. nolan's batman will "hold a sanctuary in our hearts, and the hearts of our descendants, generations hence".
My fav: Lucius Fox : [to Reese] Let me get this straight, you think that your client, one of the wealthiest and most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante, who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands, and your plan is to blackmail this person?
The thing I love the most about this scene is that Tom Hardy is like two inches shorter than Ben Mendelsohn so I have to keep imagining him standing on the box to appear 6ft4.
I love that Bane questions him about whether he feels in charge the second Bane LITERALLY (and I literally mean the word literally) lays a single hand on him.
"Director Krennic..." "I've paid a small fortune..." "You were not summoned here to grovel." "So you'll tell the Emperor then, that I'm in charge?" "Do you feel in charge? Take care not to 'choke' on your aspirations".
"we've paid you a small fortune" "and this gives you power over me?" "well yeah, it's the basis of contract law. you can choose to quit, of course, but then the monies disbursed to you are refundable in full to the original account and value if the agreed work is defaulted on or uncompleted" "oh of course. sorry"
"I paid you a small fortune", "and this gives you power over me?" Pray the dollar never crumbles because when it does there will be chaos...we are all keeping the Bane in us at bay.

@@thorny8013 The power you buy from money only lasts until the fear of no money runs out. When you face someone who doesn't care about how much money you throw at them and no one around them is willing to turn against them for any amount of money, then you've met real, actual power.
Pretty much anyone who lives paycheck to paycheck and doesn't save despite having extra money. It might be weird for you and others to hear, but a large majority of the planet doesn't give 2 shits about having money and just wants to live their life. It's frightening for the minority because it means their money has that much less power.
If I could somehow live without seeing a single dollar the rest of my life, I'd do it in a heart beat. You, and people like you, have literally made it illegal to live off your own labor or just the land. You FORCE people into the system.
@@DarthObscurity money can't buy you. Money can buy people who are willing to butcher your family and make a nice scene for you. Anyone who has money has connections. This money and connections lets one do things you can't usually do. It's not just greed. Going against a powerful person doesn't mean going in without the greed to overcome his offers. It's what that person can do with that money to ruin your life. This is what power means.
Society is dark and things aren't as simple as they seem to be. You don't seen to understand that. Unless you have no family and no hope in life, and your sole purpose is to have beef with a "powerful" person, you have every reason to be afraid of them. The person can't buy you, but he can buy people who will ruin you.
@@DarthObscurity these people have support and followers. These people feed gangs and they support him. These people are important and close to the local politicians. The thing you said about their "power" is a very naive interpretation of this obscure reality. You're actually, actually powerless before them. They are vulnerable too, but no one will do that to them because they know of his capabilities. It doesn't mean they're untouchable. Just no one with the right mind would do it
Before i knew that the hand on the shoulder at 0:47 was an improvised from tomhardy, i used to think, what scary and powerful gesture it was , that small hand movement was so sick 🔥
Later when i came to know that it was improvised my respect for tom hardy increased even more!
Tom Hardy is used to play intimidating characters, being scary, powerful and somehow eloquent is his specialty 🤌
Bens role as John Daggett goes unsung
"Do you feel in charge?"..... One of the best movie lines ever
0:46 Putting the back of your hand on someone’s shoulder instantly grants you to level 100 charisma.
"Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, director."
- Darth Bane
Hopefully they actually do darth bane
Tom Hardy as Darth Bane would be sick.
I mean this guy had balls. It just didn’t pay off
Bane was f'n terrifying. Such an underrated performance. The best part is when he gently lays his hand on his shoulder "Do you feel in charge?" "If in charge feels like shitting your pants then yes."
0:47 Oh-oh Bane's theme ost is here.
He looked pretty frightened. He won't be drinking mulled wine from the skull ofGee-orre Mormont's skull again anytime soon
ultimately he met with the same fate as his boss.
This Scene is so real and a life lesson because someone pays you it should never give them power
Got to love how mr corporate exec thought he had all the power, only to be shown what true power really is
But it's murder
@@jesse3333 Does Bane look like he cares?
@@SwordsmanMercenary he will pay for that
@@jesse3333 Gonna cry?
too bad it's just fiction. Mr corporate exec actually owns the world, can fly to the moon if he wants, and has guys like Bane doing his dirty work.
Bane is so strong that him resting his hand on his shoulder changed that dudes entire attitude because it felt like Bane placed a 20 pound dumbbell on his shoulder haha
I swear for all these years the Bane quote was “Do you feel like you’re in charge?”
One of the best scenes I've ever watched. The way he just put his hand there so he is power could be felt.
Should’ve used that small fortune for buying a discount iron man suit when speaking such a way to Bane.
The way Bane gently rests his hand on Daggets shoulder and calmy asking the question.
What makes this scene more amazing, is that the hand thing on the neck was improv.
Brilliant inspiration !
“We stand here amidst my achievement not yours!”
Tarkin: I’m afraid these recent security breaches have laid bare your inadequacies as a military director.
Krennic: The breaches have been filled. Jedha has been silenced.
Tarkin: You think this pilot acted alone? He was dispatched from the installation on Eadu. Galen Erso’s facility.
Krennic: We’ll see about this.
Wendy's Manager: Back to work!
Me: **Turns to other employees** Leave us!
Wendy's Manager: Uhh...why are you all obeying the new guy I'm the manager I'm in charge!

Wendy's Manager: **Meek voice** I'm paying you minimum wage...
Me: And this gives you power over me?
"does this smell like fries too you?"

🤣🤣🤣🤣 not Wendy's!!!
And then manager calls the police for assault and you go to jail. Pretty sure it's not gonna be like the warlord cave prison. No, it'll be Bubba and Pookie trading your butt for cigarettes. Had a similar convo with my boss the other day. He had the assumption that 'he' pays me, so I need to work as much as he thinks I should work. "No. I work for a single pay rate not 2. I show up for the work. You pay me. This is not rocket science or a magic show".
My man at 0:51 made a business decision to not stick around 🤣
Tom Hardy is such a good actor he can even act like he is tall.
That light karate chop on the shoulder is something else. I've never seen humans perform this gesture before, but the meaning is still clear.
Elegantly said.
I agree I love this scene a lot
Dude relax
Why doesn't this have more likes?
LOL what utter BS , please explain to the class how exactly your spine is going to "slice" through your lungs? You might want crack open an anatomy book before you say things like this.
Were you on amphetamines when you wrote this?
I like how he was considerate enough not to give that other guy ptsd by telling him to leave.
Dam, Tom really knows how to make a character very intimidating
I wouldn't talk to Bane the way Dagget did without being in the other side of the room and next to an open door
How empathetic do you have to be to care about a narcissistic douchebucket like Dagget?
@@zackerymoyano still you empathise with a guy who tried to something and got screwed over by one of his subordinates
@@Zlonk7 You may, many would not.
I agree with young grizzly's sentiments, just the fact that the director chose to not show the actual act yet allowed the audio and the reaction made it more horrific and heartbreaking. When we become as shallow, cold and numb as the evils portrayed here, where does humanity begin and end?

The thing I love the most about this scene is that Tom Hardy is like two inches shorter than Ben Mendelsohn so I have to keep imagining him standing on the box to appear 6ft4.
He's defo on a box
I can just imagine tom hardy standing on a stool during this scene haha
I love that Bane questions him about whether he feels in charge the second Bane LITERALLY (and I literally mean the word literally) lays a single hand on him.
"Do you FEEL in charge?" Gonna remember that line next time my boss at work goes off on me...
Pretty sure that doing that could be taken as a threat and lead to charges being pressed.
“And that gives you power over me?”
“No but it should afford me some authority over our agreement and your overseeing of it…”
He must have been so scared while performing, even when yelling
