I just started learning it a couple of weeks ago and it's quite complex. But the sound (and sympathetic string harmonics in particular) are definitely worth the challenge. Be sure to get a sitar teacher in your area to teach you everything you need to know, even the seating position requires one to teach you how to do it right. The learning process will be a long road but well worth it.
I'm from Bangladesh and it is called ektara ek means one and tara means string And baul is our traditional music genre . You can listen to hason raja or lalon songs You can come to our international folk fest And you can also try other instruments like dhol, dotara, bashi etc Dhol=like drum, dotara=same like ektara with two strings and bashi = bamboo flute Thank you trying our traditional instrument
Noticed a lot of sources calling this an Ektara but there we also some calling the Toombi an Ektara as well, so I thought maybe the name Ektara was used for multiple instruments with one string, but I guess I was a bit off the mark! Thanks for the info :)
It amazing to see you guys use Persian words for your instruments. We say dohol for drums and yek means one and do means two and tar means string in persian. We have instruments called dotar and setar and tar.
@@arshiahashemi4977 It's not really using Persian words. Ek is a native Bengali word. That's called Ektara. It’s got deep rooted significance in our musical history and culture. That right there is the very essence of our native folk. Thanks for trying it out.
I love these videos because watching the struggle is hilarious but it's also really fun to learn with you guy. One of my favorite channels, stay awesome
Loved that you tried a bengali baul instrument. It is widely known as একতারা(ektara) or Iktara. It has to be played by one hand and has the open tune of E.
This instrument, called Ektara, is a very famous instrument among folk songs of Bengal, and Utkala (Odissa) (East India and Bangladesh). The singers called bauls, use this instrument while they sing. Bauls mostly sing songs which are dedicated to Hindu deities or reformal of societies. There are also Muslim Bauls who are Sufis, who too preach the happiness and reformal of the society.
awesome video just purchased one as I was watching this!! wasn't sure if it's what I wanted but you assured me it was by showing everything you can do with it. Much appreciated!! it was sitting in my Ebay cart for like a month lol thank you!! can't wait to use it! it will be great for doing sound baths! and like you said with drums and it will also sound good with a didgeridoo!! Do you already have an Ocarina? I don't remember seeing a video a Video of Charles with an Ocarna, but it could be very funny. Also, you should try to make a song with all of the crazy instruments you got. Edit: Found a Ocarina video... you should still make a song with these instruments
I'm Bangladeshi and 16. I was starting a career in music (My first and last video of a live performance is posted on my channel) I started with Folk songs and seeing him butcher the Ektrara has cracked me uo Also yes you can turn the Ektara into a Djent stick. Have you ever tried a 'theremin' it's an instrument you play without touching it! It's also the first known electrical instrument, invented in 1920. It was invented by a young Russian physicist named Lev Sergeyevich Termen as part of proximity sensor research for the Soviet Government.
Great video, it would be cool if you have the chance to try a Sarangi from Nepal! Or a Shehnai, I have one you’re welcome to try whenever we can next visit the UK :D
The Världens Band are good - there are 13 of them and they play bagpipes, melodeon, Swedish 6 string fiddle, bombarde (Breton clarinet thingy) and Kora (African gourd harp thingy), combined with African and Indian mouth music. Iv’e seen them live, and they sound beautiful, but very loud!
Go for a Robab or Rabab or Rohbab, the instrument name means the doorway to the soul, and is one of the oldest instruments in the world, Originally From Afghanistan.
Tried Ak-tara (That's its common name in Bengali). Now try Dow-Tara (means Two String Instrument, literally.) Also, it's almost obvious companion Khomok.
this is ektara used by sadhus and rishis of Hindu religion to sing bhajans of lord Krishna or ram its available in remote places in India only nearby any temple

Don't feel bad, most of us have no idea how to actually use that thing either.
I am really going on brass now. So let me tell you I was really bad when I started.
You should make a video about 'morsing'. It is from South Asia as well and has a very unique sound. Try searching it on RUclips.
Rob scallon would have a field day with this.
Also, isn’t this instrument from Bali too?
