Your wife is a lucky woman! You built a beautiful cage using natural materials and simple tools, bravo! Very well designed. I would add a big bird bath to cool down and a some water bowls separately. Be aware that when they peck on the cement floor, it hurts their beaks. The dirt is good for them, as they need grit to grind seeds down, but the cement is too hard and will chip and dent their beaks. Pigeons love white millet, sunflower, cracked corn, nots, etc. I would add a lot more dirt to soften the ground. Add ground up egg shells for calcium in the seed mix. I use a poultry tray feeder from Amazon which prevents disease and eating their own poop. Very well done! After the pigeons are used to you, leave the cage door open so they can come and go. If there is food, they will never leave that spot! Now they are not prisoners but free to enjoy some flying then return home to sleep.

I would not recommend parrots. if that is galvanized steel the galvanization. The zinc. that is highly toxic and can kill parrots. parrots like to chew and climb with their beaks so they're most at risk. also that would is not parrot safe. like I said pairs like to chew. Even a budgie, could get through that wood with enough time.
It's perfect now the birds can stay in the bird cage while you and your wife can in the garden, if anyone had a pet parrot or any bird this bird cage can help the owners and their pet birds. :D

What makes them not fly at the basket can hold it first? Anyway i think if put dried grass inside as nests will be nice, then like a waterpoint(they will throw their wastes inside easy cleaning maybe?) Also, like a small pond? Just sliding below type of size shld be wont be used for drinking maybe?
