i only seen this movie in black and white and i must say, by far my favorite godzilla movie that has been put out. it brought me back to my childhood watching the OG godzilla!!!! Edit: when this get released to buy, we NEED both the black and white and the color in the same set
Please come to Japan to see Godzilla Minus 1 Minus Color. It will continue to be shown in Japan, and you can watch it quietly! I'll let you know at that time!
I have a feeling the survivors of the Godzilla shockwave will birth generations of people with various abilities from healing to strength and agility which would be great resource for this future franchise’s G-Force, after those events Japan is definitely going to make a self defense military unit for possible future monster encounters. Who knows the G-Cells could even give some people a psychic links to Kaijus which could introduce a more grounded version of the Mothra Twins.
I watched this movie the first time in the minus color version. I think I’d be disappointed by the color version in comparison. Perhaps that’s not fair to the people that worked on the color aspect of the original. This was great as a serious Godzilla movie. I hope they can make sequels without falling back into camp.
I said I preferred the color version (and couldn't articulate why) but I find myself waffling, thinking about the black and white more and more. I think it will be one of those movies where I watch both versions and prefer one over the other depending on my mood.
After Seeing the fan artwork, i really didn’t think about a possible scenario with noriko’s eyes becoming the same eyes as godzilla. Despite its a fan art but, it is an interesting way of giving a ironic twist towards koiji’s character. Im really wondering how will shikishima take in that ramification after he came to terms with himself in killing godzilla to protect the future
Yeah, whatever is going on with Noriko will have to be addressed in the sequel and I hope it's a compelling addition and doesn't end up being cliche. I have great faith in the director!
I wish I could have seen it! Honestly it could have just been the particular brightness/contrast settings on my theaters projector. Or it could be my aging eyes. I'll eagerly be awaiting the Blu-ray release to find out!
@@BatChainPuller Ya I don't know, it was perfect in mine. Dark but I could see all the details. I found my heart racing at the end because it was way more terrifying than the color at that point.
I haven't been able to find any sources that said they did anything other than color grading for each shot. I FELT like they added some grain/texture but I couldn't be certain. Do you have a source? Would love to read more about it!
it was on another review channel. Unfortunately I can’t remember which one. But in it they said that grain was added as well a slight softening of the image was done to give a vintage look to the film. @@BatChainPuller
Is your Godzilla 2014 footage from the 2D Blu Ray or the 4K? There was an error during the transfer that resulted in a murky filter, and that rewrote people's memory of the film.
That's what I said too. But I reserve the right to change my mind at any time as the Black and White version seems to have a personality and vibe all its own and I find myself thinking about it often.
The idea that a big lizard movie is treated with such solemnity by audiences and critics alike is laughable. And my mother was Japanese. (I do revere the 1954 original).
The director/VFX supervisor went back and reworked everything for this version so it looks like it’s from the 50s.

That first scene was spectacular in BW

They did add grain and did some softening as well as grey scale expansion to the film. They didn’t just hit the desaturation button.

-Color is the better version.
