cheeky question - would you like to see bronze heroes and overanalyzed come back? - I'm getting sick of covering how horrible the majority of changes are in the game, need to get some fun in here - just not sure people even care about that stuff anymore?
It breaks my heart to see Sty go from being one of the biggest proponents for Overwatch way back in the day to one of the most frustrated content creators for it.
@@Spiritwonder420Nope, his complaints are shared by MANY, this isn't a perfect game and the devs need calling out. Do not become drone-shills just because you enjoy playing a game, if shit stinks then it needs being addressed.
I miss voting cards the most, especially the fun ones you didn't see too often like environmental elims, enemies trapped, enemies hooked, rein charge elims, the list goes on and on. It was enough time to chat with everyone and I never felt like it was a waste of time, since you could always leave soon as the Victory/Defeat screen popped up if you wanted to.
There was nothing funnier then seeing a Winston player get a card for 10 jump pack kills at the game it's just funny seeing winton overwat crushed 10 people to death
Yeah me too but apparently it promotes toxicity so now we’re not allowed to know anything about how anyone else’s game went beyond the surface level scoreboard stuff. Just feels so impersonal.
I agree and miss the voting cards and stats of types of kills. You manage high environmental kills but there is no stat for it. I'm excited, but then sad because there's no recognition for it, even if no one but me sees the recognition. It was just fun to have.
I miss the coaching series, even if the matchmaking is stupid I still enjoyed sty's reactions, tips, and the occasional wtf, how did that happen. You laff, stay laffs, good times. I agree the match maker is awful, but let's face it, it feels good to destroy the enemy once in awhile 🤣. Just not to roll or be rolled all the time.
Sty I absolutely love how brutally honest you are about the game. Even I have made excuses for it, but this game is a shell of its former self and it's tragic to see that. Thanks for speaking up about it.
I stopped playing. Every game was either me rolling an enemy team and watching them rage quit, or it was my team getting rolled and rage quitting. It's unplayable and unenjoyable. You know when Sty is frustrated with Overwatch something ain't right.
@@MrNovember41 I had played for 6 years and I finally hit the breaking point. I just Uninstalled it last week. It's in its worst state ever and Blizzard has no idea what in the world they're doing. This launch has been nothing short of disastrous.
This game is a psychological experiment. Anything that differentiates you from other players has been neutered. It's just more of the clinical " participation trophy" experimentation. Its demotivating.
Thank you for bringing attention to this. I feel like because the biggest ow content creators are top 500 and isn't an issue for them, there isn't enough focus on the huge problem of matchmaking for the rest of the 95% of the player base.
Last 2 days I've been in a losing streak, lost 12 matches with 1 win open q & today 9 matches lost in role q with 2-3 wins, 2 matches had leavers in one sitting other matches lost cuz of pure noobs! I WENT FRM D4 to P3, the dirtiest derank i ever had! Something real shady is going on.... Idk wht it is, if this keeps on, I'll prolly uninstall. The matching is getting worse & much worse as days go by...
it genuinely makes my stomach hurt to see how they slaughtered this game. there have been so many chances for them to redeem this game, but they slapped them away and went further into the shitstorm. p.s. I can still see a path for this game that leads to greatness once again, but im so doubtful that they'll take it after seeing them make mistake after mistake p.p.s.s, this game is actually surprisingly fun with a 5 stack. The game could literally redeem itself for me at least by just adding a tourney mode. my only complaint with 5 stacking is that its a little bit too easy, i dont think i've lost a game yet while doing it and im like diamond 1 atm, however it was still really intense competition all the way there. If you want to try having fun in this game again, try getting a group of people that you have good communication with and play that way.
The worst part is, they neglected the first game for years, only to turn it into a worse version of itself with $20 skins and even worse matchmaking somehow. The game wouldve done better if they kept adding new heroes and updating the first game in general. Everything just feels all over the place atm
@@Zekegedd i agree really only the new players like it but imo it brought the toxicity out even more and ftp brought all the toxics from other games too. ow1 was horrendous but it was way better than this.
I still have fun playing Overwatch.. they should have made a proper sequel. How many Call Of Dutys are there?? They could have left Overwatch as is while experimenting with Overwatch 2. I wouldn't mind switching between them depending on my mood, just like how people play multiple Call Of Dutys or Battlefields.
It is not ONLY that the matches are bad. It's that it's done so purposefully that it feels like a 50/50. It is almost an exact 50/50 that you will wipe, or you will get wiped.
The funny thing is that they did this with Heroes of the Storm, even balancing around heroes needing to have 50% winrates even if it was clear they needed nerfs or buffs. It was universally hated, so Blizzard KNOWS people hate this.
@@kingsosaa Difference is that in OW1 the outcome could change seconds before the end of the match. In OW2 they know who is going to get wiped before the match even begins....
I find it hilariously bad. In QP I have gotten a top 500 challenger tag on my team, once on the enemy team. I go on comp and I'm playing with silvers lol
"The majority of changes in Overwatch 2 were just straight up downgrades" Couldn't have said it any better. I watched the whole video just to see that I feel the same as you regarding the state of the game. It is SO frustrating to not have an actual visual representation of your current skill, not to mention the fact that to get a better rank you have to straight up grind rather than getting better at the game. It feels so unrewarding, and it is so annoying to have so many nice features from Overwatch 1 taken away with no other reason than, probably, their wish to deprive us from having fun.
I think the issue is more evident when playing with friends, you can team up with anyone up to a certain number of tiers, but if the inner mmr is used to form the teams, then you can have massively different mmrs even within the same tier. For instance I was a diamond tank and got demoted to plat at the start of a season, so now I can team up with my low gold friends and queue for comp and roll most of the games
This is my biggest complaint about the actual gameplay. Even in QP, I know every time I win a match that increases the odds of my next match being a shut out.
@@alexastorm97 It doesnt even have to be a roll. It just needs to be a win. It could have been hard fought. The MM says "You won last time. It's time to let the other kids win one".
Competitive is better since I usually get with people atleast on my skill level (Not usually for the enemy team) but with quick play, I CONSISTENTLY do better than anyone on my team and usually better than anyone else on either team and I get play of the game a lot but I keep on losing because I get put with people who just do worse and it's frustrating since there's nothing I can do. I try to switch out and adapt but nobody else does so I lose
@@louiepikmin3184 Im half tempted to play ranked but 2 reasons why. 1) I hear the MMR is shit. GM players are fighting golds. So it doesnt sound better than QP 2) I tried playing ranked once and people constantly bitched about who I picked. If I wasnt a meta char they'd ask me to switch or if we lost they blamed me. If Im at a point where Im forced to play a certain way then Im no longer having fun and I play something else
The thing I hate the most about them removing voting cards at the end of a match is that having customizable cards would've been a better cosmetic that souvenirs. I honestly think I've only seen 3-4 people actually use a souvenir and I think it's because their account was new and they didn't have any other emotes.
Nah the cards was a waste of time. All they were was pointless ego boosting ( sometimes rubbing salt in the wound to the loser team) mechanics that did nothing.
@@MichaelJones-rz5sw you think the scoreboard does less of that? Because it seems like every game, multiple teammates use the scoreboard to ego boost themselves. Oh and by the way, let’s also take Play of The Game out too because people use that to ego boost. Cards were fine. They shouldn’t have taken them away.
@@Not_Ciel 100% agree and they tend to shut up when you point out the high IQ plays that someone with lower stats on the score board did. The new system just feels wrong. I personally liked the voting cards as it was a way to reward high IQ plays rather than rewarding a window licker that did not actually contribute to the team but got high stats so that's what these newer players upvoted. I feel like this new system is a purposefully preditory way to boost the quarterly and long time and new players, but once pve tanks because it's heartless corporate greed filled b.s. kinda like this battle pass system they will then finally make the changes they need too.. you know after they boosted their corporate profits.
@@MichaelJones-rz5sw Nothing wrong with a little ego boost if you did good. Would you rather have in game accomplishments ignored and sterilised so that every game feels the same at the end?
Huge respect to Sty for always speaking the truth and voicing the concerns of the commnunity, hopefully one day it makes a difference and brings Overwatch back to its former glory.
Exactly!! Overwatch is by far the greatest fps I've played ever!! The team aspect, the hero skill cap, the different ways one person or a few can dictate the game flow. It is super unique for a fps of it's like. As an OG OW player, it saddens me to see the game in the state that it is in due to whatever it is behind closed doors.... Bc I am positive it's not entirely blizzard's (the dev team for OW2) fault... If it is.... It's a crying shame
The rank decay is wild. As a support, I ended OW1 in Plat at like 2600. Started OW2 in Gold 3 after placements. Climbed all the way up to Diamond 5, and I was hyped. First time in Diamond ever. Season 2 begins and I'm Gold 1. If my math was correct, I took a bigger drop from in the season change than I did in the transition from Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2. That is wild and definitely needs a fix.
Notice how rare challenger titles are now? The titles you get for placing a rank is season 1? Seems like 90% of players who played ranked season 1 have quit. This ranked system basically says you need to grind 50 wins in your current MMR before you can make any progress at all. They want players to dedicate their life to this game and nobody is having it.
@@paladinmatt1697 Yeah. I played ranked very casually in OW1, got all roles to mid-gold with minimum playtime. In OW2 I was going to start dedicating some time to improving further, but now I've been placed in the bottom of silver while getting matched with people who literally just installed the game for the first time. Complete waste of time, since the system only looks at win/lose and doesn't care about individual performance. I can outheal both of the enemy supports combined and it doesn't make a difference.
I used to love ranked. I lived for the experience of seeing myself go up, and the disappointment of seeing myself go down. There were stakes, there was a thrill behind it. Now, it just feels like a chore, knowing that all of my climbing was for naught.
I personally miss the profile icon reward for ranked. Players who achieved to make it into the top 500 got a different version of that icon. I think this was a very special reward. What I also don't understand is that there's nearly no time to click the "join as group" icon after a match because the screen transitions so fast to the Battle Pass Screen.
Honestly no end game chat is something I actually miss, wether it's trash talking, banter, laughing at a silly POTG or praising someone for a great POTG.
It also makes the “stay as a group” option almost irrelevant, if you don’t act immediately the button just disappears and i feel people don’t have the chance to decide whether or not they want to keep playing together. For a game that relies so much on teamwork they sure make it hard for u to find people to play with
Im still so frustrated that the removed the looking for group feature. It helped so lot to form a good team and meet friends to play with. I really miss the option. Removing all social aspects in an online game due to toxicity is the just wrong!
Make SR and MMR the same number Make SR visible again And make SR update every game instead of every 7 wins These 3 things will fix the problems I think
@@Solphoenix having to go through 14 games on average is way to much if they keep the current system then they've got to reduce the number of wins you need imo
matchmaking currently does truly baffle me. as a support player its horrific. i had a game where the entire enemy team were kitted out with master and gm title cards when i was in plat and it was evident my team was not as high skill level as those they were facing resulting in us being utterly rolled. other games its evident from my teammates comms that they are in a higher rank than me and we roll the enemies. i truly do not know what rank i should even belong at anymore as blizzard just decides to throw me into the most random games
"it's so easy to be cynical about this game, and it makes me sad as hell" This resonates with me so much. I used to LOVE this game so much, but now I can only see negatives and it depresses the hell out of me.
That first sentence explained everything. It finally clicks how even if you were 3000SR in OW1, you are still 3000SR in OW2 just under the division of gold designed to give you a sense of false progression. No wonder I get diamonds on enemy team even though I am technically only gold.
The question that I always have is how can you climb if you still get set against players of your own skill level? If Im at the rank where I belong (lets say diamond) but my symbol is gold, are you supose to reach masters just to get into platinum? The idea of deranking to create an artificual climb doesent feel like it would work when you still go against the same skill enemies as yourself.
But it also creates a "false" sense of frustration, too - because the MMR swings so wildly, you start the game apprehensive if you have a gold on your team and a Master Challenger on theirs, and it magnifies the mistakes that "gold" player makes. Even if everyone in the game is playing like high plat, you're watching that gold Mercy for signs of stupidity now, someone's getting toxic at them, and it makes everything feel worse than it really should.
@@tatuvarvemaa5314 the matchmaker should place you with players that are a bit better than you so that you can gain skill and climb. However, the problem in OW2 is that the skill gap seems to be far too wide.
I regularly face diamonds and the occasional masters player, and I'm in silver. This whole system is bull. Either put me in the visible rank I'm supposed to be at, or only put me up against opponents close to my rank so that I can actually climb. There should only be one number that matters in ranked for matchmaking, and it should be the visible one. I won't even touch ranked anymore because it's so frustrating.
The roll or be rolled thing is really starting to kill it for us. Yesterday's session was epic - we won 80% of our games, I went back to plat 5 for the second time ever. Today in comparison we got rolled in every single game. It wasn't even competitive. We were thinking of playing again tonight but didn't just because it was such an awful experience.
That's because you were winning too many matches at that session,,, so in turn you now be starting to lose a lot more to balance it out in your WR ratio , blizzard keeps everyone at mid 50/50 range,,,, if you get higher preformance in your matches,,, then the more harder matches you will get in your next session,,,
@@chrislabedzski9076 but there's a difference between games getting harder because we are climbing to every game getting stream rolled suddenly. And if that's the way the game is designed then my point still stands - it's awful.
I know what you mean, but my issue is, is they any point of continuing with this trash system? Blizzard just to derank us in the end of the season,,, the only thing I can think off now is to grind for the gold guns,,, that's about it tbh
@@TheWellaThere is no difference in Blizzard's eyes. Check your heroes WR, its exceedingly likely that most if not all of them at 50% +-1. Its been like that since the beginning, which is what makes ranked fake imo.
Hi Sty, just wanted to say that I think your videos recently have been really really good quality and informative. I've been here for the past 6-7 years. And i think your voice in the community is so valuable. Thanks for all the hard work and the videos. I find it hard playing this new game so I can't begin to understand how hard it is for you seeing you've been so close for so long. Keep the love and faith. 🤞
absolutely agree with your final call on the game. Also 100% agree about the rolling... damn near every game I'm in it's complete domination by one of the two teams. Maybe... MAYBE 1 out of 10 is a real match for everyone involved. I found competitive to be a little bit better than that - maybe 5 or 6 games out of 10 are mostly good match ups. Why in the name of god do I put myself through the near constant frustration? I have NO idea. I really liked OW1 and been playing since the start. I'm an exclusively solo queue player and think I touched Plat for a couple minutes... mostly solid bronze (sigh), but that shit never came close to the triggering this version of the game brings.
This video has a lot of things that had to be said and I thank you for that. A lot of players myself included have been thinking these things about the game that make no sense. It's sad to see blizzard turn into a greed factory with this game.
Thank you for acknowledging the match making system!!! It’s crazy how they won’t promote you to the higher ranks even though you’re clearly playing against higher ranks. I about a platinum support and just reached diamonds in OW2…. But they’ve had me queued against master players even when I ranked as gold. Also, solo queuing as support has a high chance of placing you on a team (3-4 stack missing a support) and they totally suck!!! Games are so one sided it’s so easy for the team to lose morale (by the first or second roll)
I already stopped playing comp and only play unranked or arcade but only rarely. Matchmaking killed all the fun. Oh and the ridiculous prices for the skins.
I haven't touched competitive all season but even the quickplay matchmaking is so unbalanced that going in I just know I'm either going to get rolled or plow the enemy team. And usually the first few team fights tell you the direction right away, so it's difficult to even stay in a match you know you're going to get rolled in.
Season 1 of OW2 was the first season Ive touched comp in years. I was prepared to play more in season 2. Then I saw my new rank....I have not even done 1 placement game. Why should I? I'm just going to be punished for it in season 3. This is the least amount I've ever played the game since launch in 2016.
I was pretty hyped for the launch of OW2, because I thought every player has more impact in the 5v5 system. I ended up quitting the game in early season 2, because the ranked matches felt not fun. My mates and myself had so often the feeling that the matchmaker decided from the start of the game if we should win or not. The result was stomps either on our side or on the opposite side, like you shown in the video. We rarely felt like having a fair balanced match. Maybe 1 out of 20 games. The competitive mode is not competitive at all unfortunately. Good and important video, Sty :)
Flats and a bunch of other people were screeching that the game needs to go F2P. Well congrats you guys got it, every single facet of the gameplay and outside it is now designed with monitization in mind. Hope you're happy.
I’ve always felt like there was a drip feed situation going on almost as if there was some mental games being played in under to keep us to keep grind grind, I’m happy that I wasn’t just imagining things.
Bro I can feel the lobby getting worse as I’m losing games Supports don’t heal anymore, tanks only charge in, and dps are running solo and getting picked
I was in Diamond 1 for support, just like Stylosa described himself to be and got thrown to Plat 5 at the start of season 2. However because my MMR was never reset under no control of my own I ended up being a lower plat player queing up against former Top 500’s. If I’m supposed to be in Plat/Gold lobbies, I should never see “Top 500 Challenger” at any point in any lobby as long as I’m in that rank. Let alone having to maneuver against a hard pocketed Masters Sojourn player sending half my team to the spawn room like it’s a cool down. The worst part is after I do my 1st calibration or 2, I can have a legitimate plat/gold lobby that I dominate because I’m supposed to be in a Diamond/Masters lobby which makes the game way less fun and rewarding for the people I stomp. And that trickles down to every single rank and I genuinely feel bad for the player base as a whole. The top 1% of players have this as a minor inconvenience and just carry on dominating. But for someone that was in silver, for example, to climb to plat 3 only to get dropped nearly 2 full ranks with much harder lobbies than they had before for genuinely no good reason is demoralizing and only gives a negative incentive to continue with the game mode.
I think you’re pretty much exactly right here. My entire family played almost exclusively overwatch’s one since 2016 racking up thousands of hours of playtime and we have all completely stop playing overwatch two because the experience has been so unpleasant. We started playing other games and will probably never return. Blizzard released an unfinished product as a cash grab and has as a result, done more harm to their community then had they just waited a few more months and released a better product. It’s extremely sad as I absolutely loved over watch one and not only did they release a worse product, but they didn’t even give us the opportunity to continue playing the game that we loved.
Just played against a diamond ranked player in silver 2. Love the game, but this should be their top priority. I really need them to talk about it quickly and openly.
the fire, the card after matches, the icons, the lootboxes removed, no reason to play aracde, events are hidden, no new lore, no new character interactions, its depressing
I was in between platinum and diamond in Ow1, but now I can barely get into gold with my main roles. The motivation to play isn’t really there right now.
This video is spot on.. I would love to wait half an hour to have a close game instead of losing without a chance or steamrolling the other team over and over again..
The ironic thing is that they say they don't want to add counters anymore, but then they brang in Ramattra to counter barrier heros and appearently counter Zarya's bubbles. They should probably pick a lane

I think that my biggest issue with your rank decaying at the start of the season is that it can lead to you not being able to play comp with some of your friends who are actually at the same skill as you. For example, if someone was out of town visiting family for the holidays for a couple weeks and couldn't play much comp this season, it's possible their friends who were able to play have leveled up beyond the tier they could play together. If person A ended season 1 at gold 2 and decayed to silver 2 and person B ended season 1 at plat 1 and decayed to gold 1, they were really only about a rank separated from each other. However when person A doesn't play for a couple weeks and person B has managed to reach diamond 5, they are now more than 2 skill tiers apart and cannot group together even though their MMR would actually have them be a lot closer than that. Like you said, rank isn't important but when it makes it so you can't group with other people you usually play with, then it starts to be important.
The sad thing is OW will lose that entire group of friends since they'll look for a game that they actualy are able to play together even if its a worse game. Another solution that our group of friends did in OW1 was that those of too high rank played a few derank games where we intentianally lost to get within that 1000 points to be able to play with other friends.
@@bjorntrollowsky4279 i get you want to play with your friends and that the best part, but to throw games and make it worse for your teammates is just not fair to them
You are absolutely right. I stopped playing shortly after season two stared. It’ll the game felt empty and it felt highly unfair. There was no epic fights anymore where one team just been seconds before lost and then the team get a last push and beat the other team. Now it’s either you dominate the other team, or they dominate you. That’s boring both ways. So stop playing and wait until blizzard sorts that out. Cheers
The thing is, this is a typical Blizzard habit. They did the same with World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands Expansion, and it almost killed the game. That is to say: Focusing on player retention metrics and maximizing profits of the monetization methods. It was the same issue: The systems were broken, unrewarding and grindy, meant to keep you in the hamster wheel. Rather than having engaging and fun gameplay be the reason to come back.
I was Gm5 last season on support as a solo que, I acknowledge that it is a slightly different meta, but I was placed down to diamond 4 at the start of the season, I am now playing against top 500, GM and maybe masters player title cards as a diamond 2 ish now. Absolutely crazy.
Thats nothing season 1 in my masters 5 games i had a bunch of plats and a genuine silver 2 player in my team (looked at career profile was also silver in other seasons) the only open profiles at the enemy where dia3 and dia1. U can imagine how that game went...mmr cant be the same no one can tell me that.
Went from Gold 3 to Master 2 laste season solo support. Next season Im doing placements and Im going up against top500 contending players. I got reset to Diamond 1. Feels like all the time I spent playing last season was a waste.
Thank you for bringing this to light. This is a major issue and is Extremely frustrating. I should not be constantly winning more than I lose to stay in the same rank 😵💫
I think it's important to note that almost every game does the whole "visible rank is different from real skill rating" thing nowadays, including OW1 (there were some cases of people exploiting the system to play in GM while their visible rank was bronze, and other funny stuff). The difference is just more extreme now because the devs think forcing people to grind back up to their "real" rank after every season will boost engagement.
It took me a while to fully understand the implications of pure SR matchmaking. Your rank naturally goes down, but the difficulty of the games remains the same, essentially forcing you into a deadlock.
Imagine when we used to have achievement cards at the end of the game so you can vote, but Blizzard took it out cause it was too toxic but we see all the stats on the scoreboard anyways. Turns out the scoreboard is more toxic than the cards. There have been times in OW1 even the enemy team would vote for another player. They should just add it back in since we see all the stats anyways and it adds more time at the end of the game to chat with others (or be toxic).
Another thing, what happened with the feature that allowed players to group up before games, finding groups to join was amazing, on fire is great and needs to come back too! Feels good 👍🏼.
I've found way better quality matches after grinding quick play for a while. If you do your best to win and get a high win %, the matchmaking will put you against other QP tryharders. It's way less toxic and the teams feel way more balanced and coordinated. Eventually its a bunch of Masters or higher players trying to win and improve, and it just feels better to play.
The looking for group feature though... is legit how I made most of my OW friends, and is also how I avoided a lot of toxicity. I go into games with randoms now, and I face people who don't enter voice chat, and spew hate in the type chats. I used to be able to find a group my rank with people dedicated to making callouts and staying positive. I really don't touch the game unless I have at least 1 friend to play with, if not more. It's a nightmare playing solo.
The idea that there even needs to be a difference between MMR and visual rank is so baffling to me because people want to know what they are. The rolls are happening even in QUICKPLAY. I played a match a month or so ago as a support where my DPS had 2 eliminated total and just their Pharah had 47 elims. In quick play! These games are fun for literally no one and Blizzard is going to be in for a rude awakening when people start to decide they don't care enough about moronic XP bars for skins that don't even match the battle pass theme. It's wild.
I also dislike that it’s implausible that you get the same players in new lobbies too. I used to love queuing up directly after a match and seeing people you previously played with/against. It built rivalries/friendships within game sessions for solo players like me
i am so glad that someone finally said this..Ive been feeling like im screaming out into space about what should be a glaring issue with the current competitive setup. I worked hard season one to solo climb to silver 1 and heals and gold 1 as tank only to be droped ot bronze 5 for both...and i now realize that each new season compounds the mmr you actually would have. You stated the exact words i have spoken to other people.. You spend a whole season trying to fight back the temporary right to show of the badge you made the previous season. and if you're like me...this is the best you ever done youe made itto the peak ...but now i'm expected to just regain the same icon of gold while displaying bronze and you expect me not go down a losing streak in a desperate attempt to get back what i JUST made it into too. I LOVE Overwatch for what it's supposed to be all iwant a a team that lives to find crazy team combos ..im tired of the selfish spot light mentality that everyone has been combed into.
I was a diamond mercy player in overwatch, and I've been playing this game since i was in highschool. Im in my 5th semester of uni now, and the mere reasoning for playing this game back then was to have some fun, play with friends, maybe meet new players heck, i got my internet friends group because we spoke after the match ended. I am truly sad to see the point where overwatch is at right now, I played and bought the watchpoint pack even though i already had the game just because i was excited, and well, i played season 1, and that was enough for me to give myself some time off the game. The poorly made decisions this game has taken, and the time it takes for the team to release a patch is just unberable. it makes me sad that my favorite game years ago is no longer my favorite game today.
Good decision for taking some time off the game... This will be sadly also my next step... I am playing this game since the beta back in 2015... Spend over 1k hours in overwatch 1, got to masters and quite late 2018 and never played the game again. Overwatch 2 looked very promising in the beginning ngl but I quickly realized how bad downgraded the game got in every possible way... Played a lot in season 1 but something was just off... Everything is just worse. How is this a sequel? Season 3 will be my last time I am playing this game if things don't get better.
Same i will probably be playing less and stopping soon. A few years back I was a plat and now I cannot get past silver no matter how I play. There are constantly new players on my team who dont understand champions of the mechanics and its a roll of the dice instead of skill based.
Totally agree, the game feels so sterile and not fun anymore. No social aspects and no one really talks in voice chat either anymore. I made a lot of friends in ow1. I loved the ability to talk to enemy team and team mates after games
Not at all my experience. I have people talking in probably 50% of matches, usually casual chat and callouts that sometimes turns into flaming. It's pretty much the only aspect of the game that hasn't changed. Same thing with all chat - I will always go in there and shitpost before the game and usually get some positive response from the enemy. As far as competitive games go, OW is probably one of the best out there for consistent socialising with a minimum of toxicity.
My favorite vid from you so far man, you touched on probably every problem ow2 currently faces and hopefully blizzard changes this game for the better asap.
The worst part about the matchmaking system is that I will try to play with my irl friends and we will get diamond/masters lobbies when they are gold at best. I don’t really understand why that happens.
Fully agree with your points made here. I hade games where i went 40/0 or 50/5 but in the same rank also had games where I felt like i was playing against a master tier player. Also, tanks have too much of an impact. If one tank player is better than the other, you just lose. I have not a had a game where an amazing tank player couldnt edge out the win simply by being good at their role. As DPS or SUP, this just doesnt work.
Being 4300 in ow1 and then placing Plat 2 in ow2 after spending hundreds of games in Plat back on ow1 was heart breaking honestly. Dropped the game for weeks after that
It sucks, man... After 5 years of being a mega fan I have completely stopped playing. I feel like 6v6 involved more strategy and was so much more rewarding when things worked out. And seriously, why did they arbitrarily remove all of our favorite features??
idk i used to be diamond but its really hard to climb at all as a healer. i feel like most of my games my tank or dps are extremely gapped for some reason. it sucks because you can be healing really well, countering ults, and even getting picks but i feel like it barely makes an impact
Agree wholeheartedly. Been playing almost daily since day 1 of ow1 but have barely touched the game the past two weeks and seriously considering just quitting. The bad matchmaking makes almost all matches just too frustrating and unenjoyable. This along with greedy monetization and no sense of progression have pretty much killed the game for me, sadly.
I quit competitive at diamond because I would end up as top dmg as dps in 9/10 of my games, however my team would underperform greatly. I would play smart too and try to lead them, but I can't control how smart they play and how well they play. I quit competitive last week just done with it, angers me how you can do fantastic in games, but the teams you get prevent you from ranking up. Either that or I need to find other good players to play with in a group so I'm not rolling dice with each competitive game I join
I don't even understand why many of these systems were removed because they do not even "compete" with the new systems. Account border levels? They allow for multi-season progression while still having battle pass levels. I feel like these two systems almost work BETTER together. Voting cards? They can still send us to the battle pass after cards if they want to? On fire? This is the biggest one for me. It served as nothing more than a fun and cool feature. It also shows the biggest division in focus from the dev team imo. How is voice work still being done for on fire, all the way up through Ramattra release, if the system was planned to be scrapped? They had no vision for these features and were most likely scrapped because they didn't want to do the bare minimum work to bring them forward.
that's the fun part: On Fire is still in the game, it's just hidden. But you may have noticed characters proclaiming to be on fire. You just get no visual indicator of how close you are to being on fire and who on your team is on fire.
@@blackm4niac on fire was a visual indicator that you were playing well, and doing good in the match. The fact the visual indicator was removed shows that the new leaders of the team want nothing more than retention. Hell, give the game a better tutorial, and have an explanation for what the criteria to be "on fire" are.
@@sev1120 The fact that they didn't remove the on fire system, just every UI element pertaining to it is absolutely baffling to me. Just remove it then if you don't want it, don't simply hide the UI elements from us. That's just silly.
Out of all the dumb removals they did, the On Fire visual being removed is the one that makes me scratch my head the most. Why remove the system......yet STILL KEEP BOTH THE SOUND EFFECT AND THE VOICE LINES? Hell, the new heroes have voice lines for it, so it makes even LESS sense.
They use toxicty as the excuse for why they got rid of showing ranks and sr at the start, but the real reason they got rid of it was so it would be harder for folks to call them out on matching masters against silvers
I was completely and I do mean COMPLETELY ready to actually take comp seriously and climb to GM in Overwatch 2. In Overwatch 1 I rarely ever played comp, but when I did I was consistently a Plat player, and even one Season ended on low Diamond. The SR system was annoying due to the constant fluctuating nature of it, but after hearing that OW2 would feature a new ranked system, I was excited. Well, Day 1 of OW2, I'm doing my placements, and I land in Mid Gold. Was a little shocked, but everyone got dropped a rank from OW1 to OW2, and I accepted it. Climbed up, finished in Plat 3 on support, Plat 5 on both Tank and DPS by the end of Season 1, and got ready for Season 2. Season 2 drops, and now I'm back to Gold. That's when I realized, I'll never make it to GM. If all of my work in Comp will just get set back an entire Tier, then by the end of each season I'll just go back to where I started. Until this gets changed, I'm not even sure I want to keep playing Ranked
this video really helped me understand. i was so confused why i would get matched with diamonds and plats all the time while i queque with silber and bronze players. i have teammates that go the entire game without using there ult once or even normal skills and on the others side diamonds on my team just role the enemie. ranked feels even more unbalanced than quickplay somehow. also the fact that all playerkareer info what ever its all are set to private by default and even the fact that you can hide them is just such a stupid feature. most of the time you dont even know what rank enemies where you just played aswell as your team mates. not as it would be useful at all if the mmr is hidden though. it feels like blizzard does not want anyone to know hwo good they and everyoen else is, so they can just dump them all in one quequepot and say they have matchmaling while they actually dont have. how do you want to prove it? there is no way since you cant see any actual ratings. also whats the point of ranks 1 to 5 in each elo if you keep getting matched with people that are 4 elos higher than you. that tiny number next to it means shit...
Basically all of these issues, but especially the rank decrease, is why I uninstalled the game. I stay following the news in case a positive change happens though. I worked my butt of with my limited time to hit silver, only to drop to B5 because it's a new season, and learn that even if I was gold, I'm still dropping to B5. Feels really bad! Also my last set of games that took me to B4 felt like I was fighting in a completely new-to-me, higher rank. Maybe diamond even, because team behaviors started to match the advice we see in the all the RUclips guides. Did I get rocketed way higher than silver at that point? If so, I'm glad I was holding my own really well, but that's not really the point. The point is, why don't I know?
I managed to lose 20 games as support this week. I had the highest healing in the match for half of the games yet I fell from gold 4 to silver 4. It is such a bad ranking system, even after winning the seven I got further demoted to bronze 1
I am sorry but if you lost 20 before winning 7, especially in Gold you probably deserve to be bronze or silver. If you think about OW1 system each loss was like -20SR. If you get 20 losses that's -400SR which is easily a demotion in most cases.
I agree with 100% everything you said. Ive had the exact same feelings over the time I've been playing. I also the think your conclusion is correct. I've reduced my OW2 gaming by at least 50%, at this point if another game could provide similar lively team gameplay I'd just play that. It's sad, it's like they're deliberately trying to kill the game.
As a newer player this is definitely a problem with throwing low skill bronze or silver players into gold lobbies or higher and you just sit in spawn room and die until the next game where you get the diamond or gold players on your team.
@@jari2018 Right. They did all kinds of changes in an effort to decrease toxicity, but failed to release the amount of toxicity caused by players being placed in the wrong rank.🙄🤦🏻♀️
So the one thing I loved in beta2 was Unranked mode used the competitive rules, and I was bummed they did not include that in the live unranked mode. Seems like such a simple solution, let the unranked mode have the loose fast matchmaking, and keep comp with the strict slow matchmaking.
@@energysynchronized9932 Blizzard wants fast queue times, so let them have it in QP. But put back the strict matchmaking in Comp. If you don't like the QP fast matchmaker, then play comp. If you just want to play and don't want a 10 min queue time, then play QP. But I still would like the comp rules in the Unranked mode.
It's interesting. I don't know if anyone else has has found this. I main support. I get games instantly but because of the shortage of support I think it throws me anywhere. I've asked in game and at plat I've had games in silver. Never higher games always much lower.
Bring back endorsing the enemy team! Had a comp game that was evenly matched, fun back and forth, then an enemy player rage quit. EVERYONE in the chat was saying, "Wish I could endorse or vote for ya. Would if I could."
4:50 this is every single unranked game, but even worse. Regularly have games that my team has zero to five elims and the enemy team have 30. And then sometimes it'll be flipped and I'll just be mindlessly swinging my hammer as Rein and go 20-0. It's never fun, and that's all the game is now. But hey I never see queues over 2 minutes for any role! Great, we get to have shitty games faster.
I've played ow for years, once the new season hit, i got the battlepass because I liked the skins. I then realized that rank resets every season and I lost all motivation to play. Nowadays I only play when one specific person is on and wants to play. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to completely move on or play every now and again but they've killed the game for me. I play warframe and thats grindy as hell but at least I get rewarded and it doesn't take my progress away. just... fing dissapointed man I was looking forward to this game so much just to be completely let down.
Man I miss OW1 year 1.... not even just the game but the hype and the love of the community. Going to conventions and seeing cosplays, having Lan events, it was just such a great time
Thank you for making these videos. I'm glad someone with a large audience is being critical of the game and all of the glaring issues. Even matchmaking in qp is kind of busted with how most games are super one sided. I refuse to do ranked until they do something because its extremely disheartening to do really well and get ranked in low silver or bronze when I used to be high gold/low plat.
One of my other complaints that you didn't mention is that the game seems to value wins/losses far too much and should also put at least some more value towards performance within matches. For example, I have had several rank periods where I played about 14 games and had about a 50/50 win loss ratio; however, for 90% of the games I was the best healer on stats for all 4 healers (higher healing, higher damage, fewer deaths, more kills, more assists, etc) - and yet my rank stayed the same. I know that this is difficult to factor in because some heros are expected to have other benefits that aren't captured on the score board (eg mercy damage boost, lucio speed boost, etc), but I think Blizzard needs to figure out some way of identifying contribution and punishing you less if you were on the losing team but contributed the most.
Yeah it just feels out of my control, like I almost always do better than the rest of my team and sometimes better than the enemy team yet I still lose because overwatch puts me with players way worse than me
I played OW since beta daily, almost religiously, but it’s just not possible to keep grinding away at nothing. I’m currently in low gold and in multiple games now there are players with the “diamond/master challenger” tag in my games. I’m not stupid enough to believe I’m anywhere near that level and it’s equally as unfair on the higher rank player to have to suffer through a silver/gold match. Even when OW1 was dead in the water it was nowhere near as bad as this. Part of me thinks the team is neglecting it intentionally to just hope it dies at this point.
Also i'll add that one major difference between teams is voice comms. One team choosing to proactively shot-call and coordinate via comms will typically dominate a silent team.
Activision has a patent to manipulate matchmaking to encourage consumer spending. Basically you forced to play against more skilled players from time to time because this make you mimic their behaviour and skin/hero choice which leads to more sales.
100% great video. Toxicity is sky high now because of the way theyre doing matchmaking. I even admit I'm the source of some of that toxicity and I apologize to everyone i took my frustration out on. Its just so frustrating when you crank out 17k dps as a damage player to look down the stat sheet and see a Zen with 700 heals. So you switch to support on the next game to crank out 20k heals, but guess what... 3k dps damage players.... what! Another thing I've noticed, every time we crush a team at the beginning, someone on other team quits causing the game to end. Then it puts you in a "priority" queue where 9 times out of 10, you get immediately steam rolled. So priority queue = we're gonna get you into a game as fast as possible even if it means having to reach out into higher MMR to find you a match which is completely unfair to you but at least your playing even if you cant win! No thanks! My friend and I have found a way to beat the priority queue though by starting a quickplay then backing out to avoid the priority queue in competitive, so far its been working. I wish they would implement a system where you can choose to be in a "pickup queue" where they insert you into games where someone has dropped out or left match (maybe it only applies if the person drops out in the first round or something), if you win that game you get extra XP, MMR or coins or something. Just an idea.
10:15 You were 100% with that one. I was a top 100 dps for season 1-16 and did not play for years before coming back to overwatch. The Game put me in Silver lobbies and i won more than 80 out of 100 games. Got to m2 but. This Season i got placed in plat4 and had to Grind again. I won like 25games in a row until i got put back Into masters… i dont get the System, winning all the Time is Not fun because you know you have to do it over on over just to get to the Point Where you have been the previous Season
I really agree with you at 13:53 . The game feels so fucking sterile. It's no time to banter or talk with teammates after the matches end, it sucks that they removed cards! I think the ONE thing i'll never get over is the removal of the on fire visual. Bro having that feature made me feel so NICE. I just wish that Overwatch 2 had more personality
Given all the feedback, eventually Blizzard might go "Oh, we hear what you're saying and going to change it" But the problem is that the ideology of the people who made these changes will not change. Nickel and diming mindset. These decision makers are the problem for the gamers.
cheeky question - would you like to see bronze heroes and overanalyzed come back? - I'm getting sick of covering how horrible the majority of changes are in the game, need to get some fun in here - just not sure people even care about that stuff anymore?
I would love overanalysed back!

I missed it too. It not forces u to the BP and it pushes us out so fast. I hate that I can’t get a message out fast enough.
It's unplayable and unenjoyable.

it genuinely makes my stomach hurt to see how they slaughtered this game. there have been so many chances for them to redeem this game, but they slapped them away and went further into the shitstorm.
p.s. I can still see a path for this game that leads to greatness once again, but im so doubtful that they'll take it after seeing them make mistake after mistake
p.p.s.s, this game is actually surprisingly fun with a 5 stack.
Personally I think making the game 5v5 was a big mistake and has fundamentally altered the game for the worse.

It is not ONLY that the matches are bad. It's that it's done so purposefully that it feels like a 50/50. It is almost an exact 50/50 that you will wipe, or you will get wiped.
Wish it was like that. For me it is more like 10 times i get wiped and i win 1 and i get wiped 10 more times

Big time
This is my biggest complaint about the actual gameplay. Even in QP, I know every time I win a match that increases the odds of my next match being a shut out.

Your rank in ow2 is inflated, you're still Plat in ow1 basically cuz I said so
Notice how rare challenger titles are now?

I get Diamonds and Masters in my games as a Diamond myself in Gold😂 make it make sense
Don't play ranked on Sundays then
@@TheWellaThere is no difference in Blizzard's eyes.
A good observation - yes, a balanced match seems rare. You either roll or get rolled.
QP is where its at :)
Flats and a bunch of other people were screeching that the game needs to go F2P. Well congrats you guys got it, every single facet of the gameplay and outside it is now designed with monitization in mind. Hope you're happy.
The only thing keeping me playing is when I play with my 3 other friends. I can’t play OW2 solo queue anymore. It’s just miserable
@@nickp8041 That doesn't mean the matchmaking needs to be the way it is though, which is glaringly the largest issue with the game right now.
I’ve always felt like there was a drip feed situation going on almost as if there was some mental games being played in under to keep us to keep grind grind, I’m happy that I wasn’t just imagining things.
Bro I can feel the lobby getting worse as I’m losing games
Supports don’t heal anymore, tanks only charge in, and dps are running solo and getting picked

I was in between platinum and diamond in Ow1, but now I can barely get into gold with my main roles. The motivation to play isn’t really there right now.
This video is spot on..
I would love to wait half an hour to have a close game instead of losing without a chance or steamrolling the other team over and over again..
I have literally had games where the enemy team had 0 deaths. The mismatch of skill across the entire game was insane. Never had that happen in OW1
I can count the amount of equal games I've had in one hand.
Back in overwatch 1, I can't can't the ammount of times where it was even Stevens
They promised no more counters. They promised better gameplay experiences. The promised frequent balance updates.
We got Hog and Suzu
and a patch every 3-4 weeks
their version of counters was just stuns on non-tank/support heroes ig?
What's more, they promised to change formula of ranked matches every sezon in order to keep it fresh.
“Naded hog, never mind he got suzu’d”
The ironic thing is that they say they don't want to add counters anymore, but then they brang in Ramattra to counter barrier heros and appearently counter Zarya's bubbles.

What about the poor sods at Bronze 5 who do they have to play start of each season?
The sad thing is OW will lose that entire group of friends since they'll look for a game that they actualy are able to play together even if its a worse game. Another solution that our group of friends did in OW1 was that those of too high rank played a few derank games where we intentianally lost to get within that 1000 points to be able to play with other friends.
This happened to me! I didn't play the first week of the new season and then couldn't queue with any of my friends :/

Yep, one game your team has 4 GMs and the other team has 5 diamonds. The next it's the opposite and you get wiped.
I though I was going crazy!!!!
masters 5 support and had a plat 5 dps on my team
The matchmaker in OW2 is the EXACT same matchmaker that was used in the first game. It's just nonsensical complaining cuz drama gets youtube views.
Oh yeah, I forgot it was even a thing...Why is this game called OW "2" again?
I've found way better quality matches after grinding quick play for a while. If you do your best to win and get a high win %, the matchmaking will put you against other QP tryharders. It's way less toxic and the teams feel way more balanced and coordinated. Eventually its a bunch of Masters or higher players trying to win and improve, and it just feels better to play.
Came from Overwatch high plat, nearly diamond and now in Overwatch 2, I got Bronze 5...such bs. I'm about to quit!

It's wild.

Finally someone is addressing the matching problem I’ve been saying this from day 1
I was a diamond mercy player in overwatch, and I've been playing this game since i was in highschool.
The only time people talk in chat now is to rage
Everyone’s too afraid of being recorded to use the in game voice chat, unless you’ve got a Discord party there isn’t voice communication happening
@@PhysHow42 I haven’t heard so much as a whisper in voice chat in my past 10 ranked matches. Text chat is always lit up though

its so crazy... and its planed... i won 7 games straight... i cant win ANY game anymore... there are so fucking good players in the enemy game!
The matchmaking system explanation turning Stylosa's voice into Junkrat is hilarious 😆
Actually feeling the same ♥
I quit competitive at diamond because I would end up as top dmg as dps in 9/10 of my games, however my team would underperform greatly.

@@sev1120 The fact that they didn't remove the on fire system, just every UI element pertaining to it is absolutely baffling to me. Just remove it then if you don't want it, don't simply hide the UI elements from us. That's just silly.

Why remove the system......yet STILL KEEP BOTH THE SOUND EFFECT AND THE VOICE LINES? Hell, the new heroes have voice lines for it, so it makes even LESS sense.
Idk, maybe because the fucking game was just an update? They're reintroducing the mechanic as new content and you clowns are eating it up
They use toxicty as the excuse for why they got rid of showing ranks and sr at the start, but the real reason they got rid of it was so it would be harder for folks to call them out on matching masters against silvers
exactly
I've stopped playing already hoping things are better in a few months.
this video really helped me understand. i was so confused why i would get matched with diamonds and plats all the time while i queque with silber and bronze players. i have teammates that go the entire game without using there ult once or even normal skills and on the others side diamonds on my team just role the enemie. ranked feels even more unbalanced than quickplay somehow. also the fact that all playerkareer info what ever its all are set to private by default and even the fact that you can hide them is just such a stupid feature. most of the time you dont even know what rank enemies where you just played aswell as your team mates. not as it would be useful at all if the mmr is hidden though. it feels like blizzard does not want anyone to know hwo good they and everyoen else is, so they can just dump them all in one quequepot and say they have matchmaling while they actually dont have. how do you want to prove it? there is no way since you cant see any actual ratings. also whats the point of ranks 1 to 5 in each elo if you keep getting matched with people that are 4 elos higher than you. that tiny number next to it means shit...
If you get 20 losses that's -400SR which is easily a demotion in most cases.

oh hell no, the loose fast matchmaking that's in qp and comp are dumb af, it's just as unfun in qp as it is in comp
Don't forget that Blizzard also fixes matches to keep players averaging a 50% win rate. No tier or rank is actually indictive of anything.
It's interesting. I don't know if anyone else has has found this. I main support. I get games instantly but because of the shortage of support I think it throws me anywhere. I've asked in game and at plat I've had games in silver. Never higher games always much lower.
Forgot OW2 existed for the last 2 months. Hit RUclips to see if it’s fixed yet and this is the most recent video I found. Unfortunate, man…
Even today it's not at all fixed. Maybe in season 4 I guess...
I’ve been watching your channel from the beginning and I hope and wish Blizzard would watch this and really listen. So sad what it’s become.
if only game devs would listen to their community
Yeah it just feels out of my control, like I almost always do better than the rest of my team and sometimes better than the enemy team yet I still lose because overwatch puts me with players way worse than me
Of ALL things they decided to screw with the matchmaker… what we’re blizzard smoking? How do you even bring players back after that
I played OW since beta daily, almost religiously, but it’s just not possible to keep grinding away at nothing.
Or if one team is drinking REDBULLS? 🤷♀
Literally 0 games have different people join a comp game with a leaver what a shitty idea 😅
Imagine i am on master 4 my teammate is plat dps. This game is dying for sure because of this, and it happens a lot
The pattern i've noticed is every time you win, you'll be stuck in an unwinnable. Back and forth it goes
I remember when I was SO excited about competitive 2.0 back in ow1, thinking it would be the best thing ever
Oh how wrong I was...
10:15
You were 100% with that one.
Given all the feedback, eventually Blizzard might go "Oh, we hear what you're saying and going to change it"
But the problem is that the ideology of the people who made these changes will not change. Nickel and diming mindset. These decision makers are the problem for the gamers.
yeah my wins are higher than my losses, but I will rank up except its a rank down like wtf.
blizzard needs to fix this shit.
