    Hey Dave, Kevin from Solo here..
    Fender have certain parts/pickups that fall under “retail” (with fender header card, or box) or “Service parts” which have generic packaging like those 62’s you put in. Fender SKU’s that start with 099 are generally retail packaging and Fender SKU’s that start with 77 or 55 or other numbers are service part SKU’s. Hope that clears up the packaging question.

    I've been an electrician for 30 years. I can understand the wiring when I really look at it....but soldering...that is my major weakness. I only work on my own basses so the new presoldered kits are great for me. If anyone is concerned about the wiring terminals. They are similar to what we use in 277v lighting.

    The Hakko FX-888D is an excellent soldering station for guitar work, with a 3.2mm chisel tip (I like to use a 2.4mm chisel for switch lugs.).

    The copper definitely grounds everything. I always wire a backup because I had a customer who would sweat a lot, and his sweat got between the pot and metal plate on his tele and built up corrosion that caused the contact ground to fail. Now I am always paranoid about that😅.

      @DavesWorldofFunStuff Yep, no ground wire, all grounded by the plate. I'm just paranoid a pot will come loose or corrosion break the ground during a show.

    I would've run the additional ground wire to pots. Need a mechanical connection, not an adhesive one. That's how it was designed & came stock that way. No flames, just my $0.02.

      @@DavesWorldofFunStuff Why b so crotchety? The copper tape is ONLY shielding. Once you tighten up the pot screws into it, the tape will tear causing poor ground. IMHO, u cut a corner.

    I bought a 1973 P Bass in 1986 from Cintioli's Music for $350. It was a complete dog. I've owned several P Basses over the years but this thing had the deadest and darkest sound. I'd get one gig with new rounds and then it sounded like complete ass. To think that they're now selling for over $6000 is ridiculous. The '70's, at Fender, were very hit or miss as far as QC was concerned. Turned out I could fit a credit card in the neck pocket between body and neck. Even a new low-end Indonesian bass won't do that. Looks like they cut the neck pocket slightly crooked. I sold it (got my money back) then bought a 1968 Jazz for $100 more. I still have the Jazz.

    Dave...I am a37 year retired AITSE grip. Im dying to know what your take is on this Alec Baldwin mess. In my day when a gun was on the set it turned military. We we put up lexan anywhere around camera for safety. This set sounded like an unsafe joke. What is your take?

    • @DavesWorldofFunStuff
      @DavesWorldofFunStuff  5 месяцев назад +1

      some States allow Live ammo to be used on a set. in Canada that is not allowed period..I shake my head..a tragedy that could never happen here, but did there and that's why the wanted to film there. Live ammo is cheaper and easier in many ways, but the danger is there..we do all that with pyro. I bullet hit on any set in Canada is a controlled pyro effect

      heat and humidity are main reasons

    • @Riverdeepnwide
      @Riverdeepnwide 5 месяцев назад +1

      New or recent necks may warp due to improperly seasoned or "green" wood. Or, cutting to size in one go instead of a series of cut/stress relief-drying time steps to let the wood find its happy place.
      Older necks may succumb to just the constant string and truss rod tension, depends on that unique piece of wood.
      A neck left unstrung but still under truss rod tension will warp, the same for a neck left under string tension without truss rod adjustments.
      Maintaining moderate temperature/humidity exposure and once or twice a year truss rod adjustment all go a long way in keeping your cool axe in good shape.
