Hello Janay, I appreciate your openness and honesty regarding your experience with “Seroquel”. I’ve been taking 50mgs at night for about 10 years and lately I’ve been thinking about getting off of it. My experience with it has been mostly positive, but, this month I have cut my nightly dose in half to 25mgs at night, before I go to sleep. I have not had any adverse effects yet, but, I’m feeling that as I taper off, I may have to go through withdrawals. Anyway, I just wanted to share my story in hope that it may make some someone else aware that regardless of what prescription drugs may do to “Help” us, there are always some kind of “side effects” at some point. I wish you well and Pray that you get through your adversity and come out a better person. You seem like a sincere young lady and I Pray you stay Blessed.

Quetiapine here in Brazil is missing and they don't care about us. I used to take 200mg at night and I was sleeping and doing well with school stuff until this situation. Now my days are bad due this and I hope that I could live without it, but I can't. I'm still alive due my personality and I really like the life how it is. What scared me the most was when I realized I truly couldn't feel love for my daughter...I was doing everything for her that a dad does, but I was literally going through the motions. Occasionally I have these from lapses in Dr visits. Here are my tips.
    1. I make sure to remember not to self harm. I have never made an attempt on my life, but even in withdrawal I know I will ensure my safety as I desire to remain alive and continue my mental health treatment. I know no matter the withdrawal, I make a committment to my safety and am confident in my ability to do so.
    2. Self care and proper copes. I make sure to remember I am just having a withdrawal, and I am not my condition. My brain is just missing a medication and playing tricks on me because of it. My brains operating system is just working different. I also stay away from.bad copes and make sure to shower, groom, and clean and do my laundry. I try very hard not to let myself go.
    3. I avoid highly processed foods. Anything that comes out of the frozen food aisle and takeout food is a no go. It keeps you awake at night.
    4. I have a cup of coffee before noon, and then cut caffeine intake from that point forward.
    5. Water. Lots of water.
    6. If I have work the next day I try to get some kind of sleep. I never accept an all nighter, even if I will only get four hours. I try to get out of bed at 9am and get up and keep going. You have to be active, and exercise of you can.
    7. I ensure I get plenty of carbs to keep from being frustrated. Peanut butter is great food during this phase, as it checks every box (sugar, salt, protein, carbs and fat), and the bread for sandwiches also gives you grains.
    8. Take accountability. I get in touch with my care coordinator if my appointment has lapsed beyond my supply, and I own up to my mistakes. I make sure to project I am doing well and avoid going into my withdrawals and situation. I am lucky in that personal CC is very prompt.
    9. Due to COVID, appointments are done by phone. If you are working, tell your supervisor you need a break to receive that call for medical reasons. If you need to be there physically, dress well and groom when you go so they can see you are still with the program.
I have work shortly, so please excuse typos, and grammar and format errors

i am currently withdrawing. first week, cold turkey. my new psych agreed to lower dosage from 250 to 100. that was okay , but i didn't need it anymore since leaving an abusive living situation so with the help of a friend who is also detoxing from psych meds...i quit cold turkey. i've been throwing up , sweating (and i never sweat), stomach acid, sometimes my brain feels like it hits a caffeine rush and then it stops, sometimes i feel like a hypomania coming on.... i haven't fully quit the lithium just yet... i open a capsule and put just a little in my water before bed ...that's another story.

Got Seroquel for chronic insomnia because it was prefered to use meds that were not traditionally addicte according to the Dr. However. It became a nightmare. Gained over 25 pounds in just a few months. Went from a bit stressed and worried about my not well functioning sleep cycle to really depressed on them. And sleep, helped a tiny bit. So now I try to get off of them. But it is so damn scary. Feel numb, like my brain functions in a fog, memory gaps, headaches for weeks now when on the last mg step. If it gets worse when I go off totally. What the F can happen is my thought.
I hope it turned out ok for you.

At first I didn't think u knew what u was talkin about but after listening a little more of u talking and then u mentioning about not being able to sleep and the hot and cold flashes, u were spot on. I'm currently taking 50-100mg of Seroquel at night everyday but one day I ran out of my prescription and didn't get my refill for almost a week and let me tell u the withdrawals was real. I didn't think u could get withdrawals like that from a drug that wasn't even a narcotic or benzo.... Anyways I got my refill and am currently trying to taper myself off of quetiapine slowly to the point where I won't need any to sleep. The worst for me was the Insomnia. It's weird because I was prescribed Seroquel because of Insomnia which worked really well when oher medications didn't help even benzos like temezapam. Anyways congratsnon being able to get off Seroquel although some people actually need it and should noy be off of them. What was ur reason for getting off Seroquel? Is it just because of the eating??? I mean if it helps with ur mental stability then I don't think u should of stop taking it without at least consulting with a mental health physician/psychiatrist. Anyways good luck and I hope everything works out for u

I was in a chemical straitjacket. I was a zombie for 24 hours a day, sleeping incredibly long. When I finally got out of bed, it was a struggle to get to the kitchen
And then what happens on Seroquel is that it freezes your muscles and shuts your muscle system down. So, it's really hard to walk. And when I did walk I had no control over my ability to stop walking, so I walked into walls.

Hello, disclaimer, I'm not a medical professional. However, please seek advice from a pharmacist or a medical professional when managing medications. I was on 200mg, in now on 100mg. I learned over the years for me, I'm very sensitive to dosing of Seroquel. As you can see in this video 😆. To get to 100mg, I had to go down 25mg a week per week, sometimes longer because I have been on the medicine for about 8 years. Also, I'm petite and so too much Seroquel is not good for me. I can't go past 200mg which is a low dose compared for some. Seroquel doesn't really help to regulate my mood as much, much it helps to regulate my sleep which then regulated my mood! I also have been diagnosed with co-occuring sleep disorders so probably want to make sure that there aren't any underlying sleep disorders. Thank God, I had an amazing psychiatrist who told me after a series of sleep meds weren't working to get a sleep study. Found out I had narcolepsy a few months after that. I wonder if I never got studied, how much more I would have been struggling with a major sleep disorder which would have been making everything including treatment more complex! 🙏🏽 Bless you.

Just came from my Psych Dr the other day and he's helping me to get off my anti-psychotic (Seroquel 25mg) drug. It's been 10 years of anti-depressants (Wellbutrin), sleeping pills (Ambien), and HELL! I was on as much as 800mg Seroquel and 150mg Wellbutrin and 10mg Ambien among other drugs. Changing my diet made the biggest difference, I'm all plant based now and feeling the best I've felt in over 10 years! I'm off the Wellbutrin and Ambien and now working to getting off Seroquel. So my Dr said it's easiest to go from the higher doses and down of Seroquel, but when you get to the 25's and under it's very tricky. So he told me this method: Step 1, (first week): day one, 25mg, day two,25mg, day three, 3/4th tablet(18.75mg) then repeat. When comfortable with this step, go to step 2: (aprox. week 2): 25mg, 3/4 tablet(18.75mg), repeat until comfortable.
Step 3: 3/4 tablet(18.75mg) daily. That's about 1 month, then Step 4: 3/4, 3/4, 1/2 tablet, repeat. when comfortable with that, step 5: 3/4, 1/2 repeat. when comfortable with that step, step 6: 1/2 tablet daily till comfortable then OFF!!! Yea!

Thank you! I am still struggling with sleep with the seroquel. It seems like it takes me even longer than before to fall asleep. Almost like I became tolerant to it. My doctor did give me the option with lithium versus abilify because lithium can help with sleep. However, I chose abilify and seroquel since abilify was similar to what I was already taking.
