Is there any other band on Earth now or dead that could write songs like this? Hold Steady writes like A perfect Hemingway story. These guys on are my Mount Rushomore Hall of fame next to the Drive-by Truckers, Cat Power, Bjork, Mountain Goats, Ryan Adams, John Vanderslice, PJ Harvey, and Say Anything as some of the greatest bands of the last 50 years. Their writing is so good you can listen to their songs 50...100 times and you still hear more after that....especially since all their songs are connected with this crazy-ass psychic chick.
God I would LOVE TO see these guys LIVE sometime!!! Please come to Ithaca NY!
Your Mount Rushmore is pretty crowded - going to need a bigger mountain.
Yes, The Replacements, Thin Lizzy, and Bruce. And careful there, Ryan Adams and Say Anything are problematic AF. And Mount Rushmore is top 4. But we are all, the hold steady.
