This song came on my streaming as I was driving back to town....I had to.pull over to see WTF was this? It got me to start learning Dylan tunes &, when I lifted my candle, realized I'd walked into a vast, mossy, dripping cavern with catacombs going off in all directions in the flickering shadows.
If you like this... there's a treasure trove for you to discover. As good as this is... these songs are a dime a dozen for him... amazingly. Out of 100s of the greatest songs ever written, this is one of the best.

No...He just sings it how he feels it, at any given time, and he's gone through many different stages. His vocals were incredibly strong, flexible and focused during most (if not all) of the 1970's, so if you listen to Planet Waves, Blood on the Tracks, Desire, Hard Rain, and Street Legal...some amazing singing and phrasing all through those albums. It's the emotional communication in his voice that makes it quite extraordinary, and that's the real key to his singing: the emotion. He sounds like he really means it, not just like somebody trying to "sing well" in order to entertain some people.
My guess is that Bob thought that this sounded too much like Shelter from the storm and its text was too much like Tangled Up In Blue, so he cut it out to avoid repetition. Just a guess though.

This song came on my streaming as I was driving back to town....I had to.pull over to see WTF was this? It got me to start learning Dylan tunes &, when I lifted my candle, realized I'd walked into a vast, mossy, dripping cavern with catacombs going off in all directions in the flickering shadows.

why can’t he sing like this every time? makes you wonder if he’s just fucking with us…
No...He just sings it how he feels it, at any given time, and he's gone through many different stages. His vocals were incredibly strong, flexible and focused during most (if not all) of the 1970's, so if you listen to Planet Waves, Blood on the Tracks, Desire, Hard Rain, and Street Legal...some amazing singing and phrasing all through those albums. It's the emotional communication in his voice that makes it quite extraordinary, and that's the real key to his singing: the emotion. He sounds like he really means it, not just like somebody trying to "sing well" in order to entertain some people.
My guess is that Bob thought that this sounded too much like Shelter from the storm and its text was too much like Tangled Up In Blue, so he cut it out to avoid repetition. Just a guess though.

Can somebody explain to me why the traveling ministers are portrait as masked man in Dylan's songs? In this song as well as in "The man in the long black coat" he uses this image.
