After 15 years of searching finally I've discovered it: a youtube video those title literally describes it's content - rockets rising to sky. Thank you.
The problem when we imagine the future we forget the circumstances of today’s situation..there is nothing in space apart from minerals that will make corporations and the richest 1% even more rich powerful and corrupt There is nothing for ordinary people. And what a pipe dream who would won’t to live in a weightless environment after a cupple days the novelty will wear off. And living permanently In Space is a nightmare that nobody stops and thinks. Where getting sold a fantasy that is totally unrealistic and useless. The money that is being spent could be better used in solving today’s problems.
Thanks PBS. Its timely to remind us that Humans can do wondrous things that inspire great achievements. If we can turn away from division, war and tribalism then the Future is anything we can imagine.
Why do English speakers always turn a bit German, at weird times? Titles are written Just Like The Germans Do, only wrong. Here you got Humans, and hello Future! Jesus! Nike! Apollo! Oh my gods!
The testing was something else. As a kid, I went to school about a mile away from where Rolls Royce tested their jet engines (underground), the last test was about 10am, we had to stop class, not only couldn't we hear, the ground and windows shook. Under Hucknall Aerodrome an ex WW2 airfield, with the concrete bunkers still there at perimeter.
Incredible that people whine about the fact that this is a bit dated. They certainly want a lot .... for absolutely nothing. This is amazing information.
Ya, a little on the late side, but still thoroughly enjoyed it! It answered several lingering questions I had about some of the rocket designs. Thanks for posting and keep them coming 👍 🤘😁🖖
It would be nice if the original airdate was included in the description. Right from the first couple of minutes it’s clear this is out of date (ie less than 600 people in space). Still good content but it would be useful to have some context. Edit: okay at the point of SLS renderings (when SLS has launched) I had to look this up myself. This is episode 5 of season 46 airing on 13/02/2019 (or 02/13/2019 for Americans). Currently 4 years out of date. A LOT has happened since then, including first manned flights for Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin, the selection of a moon lander, and built prototypes and testing of Starship (just had the booster 30 engine static fire, with orbital launch imminent), Dear Moon crew selection, Polaris mission announcement, and the first full tourist orbital flight with no professional astronauts onboard on Crew Dragon. Oh..and crew rating of Dragon😅 with multiple missions to the space station. And lest we forget, China fully building their own space station.
That water rocket is really fun. I've seen people cutting two PE bottles, applying a very strong glue to make an almost 3 liter bottle, and glue a valve into the "top" that opens at once. That double bottle can be pumped up to 9 bar, filled with half water, half air, that works best. Nine bar is pretty dangerous. So, you absolutely must do the glueing exactly like the experts showed you: sand the joint using the RIGHT type of sandpaper, use the type of glue the experts showed you, apply the right amount of glue (not too much, not too little), have the glue curing at the right temperature and time. And the fins that keep your rocket stable, better go for an existing design, later you can experiment, when you know these things better. You do not want a high pressure air rocket exploding into you face, or coming for you. And ah, when you add a small return parachute, there are very clever release mechanisms, and mechanisms that fail half the time. The choice is all yours. By the way, search water rockets, the large ones fly hundreds of meters into the sky. Those are no toys anymore. Still, if you know what you are doing, you can build them yourself.
United Star Ship Enterprise was built by a United Earth where no countries waged war with other countries. Getting countries to stop attacking or firing rockets as saber rattling is the first step. We got our work cut out for our grandchildren.
I believe the "hype" about as much as the "hype" about "just point and click" in the 90's, the "convenience of mobility" of the 2000's, and now "interstellar prospecting" and the newest "trend"
Artemis obviously, up to where i was watching the mission name was not mentioned..though it's thrust was increased from optimal for launch testing purposes.
Larger the rocket, the larger waste having detrimental effect to the environment generate more debris in space the biggest fly tipper are the rich companies
if he cut the spud to the perfect diameter of the tube in the shape of an artilley shell and made it all smooth and then cut a long spiral down from the pointy end to the flat base , he definatley would have got that spud into the nearest town ......boys will be boys type thing
What mr Musk is doing is awesome but we need to remind all the progress made by USA before, sometime without computers... It's still so impressive to see the rockets land !!
"When ignited the gunpowder reacts with oxygen..." No, this is erroneous. Gunpowder contains its own oxidizer and so doesn't need the oxygen from the air. That's why it can ignite inside a gun, of course. Tsk!
Really… you’re just gonna pretend Elon isn’t the most important contributor in the rise of the rockets? Elon has flown 3 crew flights, over 20 cargo supplies to the iss and you’re going to feature his efforts as snippets. Wow
someone should tell the bloke at 9.30 that Apollo is not the name of a rocket. i cant take anyone seriously if they fail to understand the difference between a rocket and a massive project,.
« Do not move, stay put, and you will see the World twisting at your feet ! »…Franz Kafka… Quote written because thinking about Elon Musk on purpose of life…
I wonder if humans will ever reach a star trek civilization, and when? And if they don't self-destruct? Right now they are flying circles through the privileged few.
Climate impact depends on the fuel used and how it’s made. So for instance kerosene is a fossil fuel and adds CO2 to the atmosphere. SLS uses hydrogen and oxygen which burns to water. Water does have a very strong warming effect on climate but the amount is negligible compared to the water already in the atmosphere. However extracting hydrogen for fuel can be electricity intensive and could be powered by fossil fuel use (but it doesn’t have to be). Other new rockets are using methane and oxygen. Methane can be extracted from fossil fuel (its natural gas) but it can also be synthesised from the atmosphere, though this is energy intensive (again, could be fossil fuel but doesn’t have to be). It’s byproducts are CO2 and water. If the methane is synthesised from the atmosphere the net change in CO2 is zero, so would not produce a warming effect. So as you can see how you source the fuel is just as important if not more important than what the fuel is. I don’t understand your second question so I will leave that for someone else.
Old words, maybe so, however, o believe this ,old stuff, is worth far more than any wars to finance, like USA an ukr an Russia etc., this is where we need to put all of our energies and finances,we cud accomplish so much more, so much faster, and for fick sakes much better too, sooner too,
What's it like to be too narrow-minded to realize that innovation from advanced technologies developed from these projects will trickle down and benefit all mankind.

I’ve been making rocket engines now for 18 months, and programmes like this keep me wide awake, there’s still much to learn

You can go to orbit or moon, but where does your sky come from? There is no sky in the title. Read for yourself. It is not there! Thank you.

meanwhile people still think earth is flat and climate change is a hoax, deal with that space age
Fascinting to watch this knowing what we know now

And virgin has been relying upon space x for a while too🚀
and spacex has been relying on NASA
that waterrocket guy cracked me up
Embracing the revolution 🚀
Haha the edit was funny and put a smile on my face before the intended smile on my face!
New subscriber in this channel & loooving every videos , already have seen 3 excluding this one!!
The big breakthrough would be no more combustive engines….a new technology….completely
1st comment ? No way
You win today my friend
47:30 All this hype about space turism melted away from Virgin galactic.
Very genius people who passed this world like Albert Einstein theory of relativity & German & Russian mathematicians
Artemis obviously, up to where i was watching the mission name was not mentioned..though it's thrust was increased from optimal for launch testing purposes.
Vielen Dank alles Kontroler.....................................................................................
Good video but you are like five years late..
Maby uppdate to 2023, where you have Falcon heavy, Starchip, and SLS up and running.
I was thinking the same thing...

SLS hasn't flown? I'm hoping the doc was made after Artemis 1 as the video was posted on this channel 2 months ago.
SpaceX hasn't send people to ISS according to this doc. :-(
4 years later
Wonderful, thank you !!

Larger the rocket, the larger waste having detrimental effect to the environment generate more debris in space the biggest fly tipper are the rich companies
All these rockets being launched must effect the environment
They don't. Neither does aviation.
bahahaha lets just hide in a hole, have no babies, and wait for the species to die out so the planet will be safe..... idiot
nope. effect is a noun. however they do affect the environment, barely. the problem is rich people gadding about in planes. not rockets.

What type of paint are they using on a rocket that travels over Mach 20?
quick drying universal
Save the planet first, or we all die.

I always thought the chinese were first🙄 with the idea of expanding gas propelled rockets although they used solid fuel probably.
alot has progressed in the rise of rockets, this doci is kind of late.
Made in 2020, released in 2023? :p
Wir sind noch am Hub Schub + Geschwindigkeit & Beschleunigen Technik.........................,,,,!
Lol. To this day i honestly believe that the typical rocket design is an in-efficient waste of fuel.
Ich habe gerade Atomstrom ausgeleuchtet & möchte Sie sich Untersuchen lassen............
I heard busi can spark any linghter with just +12VDC
😎😎😁🙄
Who do you think Elon is?
Nice documentary, but a little late.

Quote written because thinking about Elon Musk on purpose of life…
17 mins into video and 4 lots of ads already, greed ? uncomfortable viewing.
Anyone heard of Space X Starship super heavy?? NASA is the past Space X is the future!!
Inspiring, however NO One is going to the moon,
January 23, Vector has already filed bancruptcy, Astra who had a similar concept are in serious trouble, as is virgin...
To the moon? well a first time for everything.
Bitte zählen Sie der nächste Schritt
No mention of Sputnik, no mention of Laika, no mentionf of Yuri Gagarin, yet they mention Alan Shepheard...modern day US propoganda is sad.
They didn't even mention Wernher v. Braun......No v. Braun, no Saturn-Rocket.
45:05 ...ripping off mobile ICBMs much?
I cannot believe no one gives the carbon footprint for a launch in the middle of a climate catastrophe!

two modern day problems (1) how does this impact the climate? (2) cube sats?? orbit solution?

Everything in this is years out of date.
no way no more new generation at all
How old is this??
It’s from February 2019, an eon ago in modern rocket development.
I love Sci-fi. I, like you, wish Space was an actual thing. Alas, it is not.
There's loads of space. Alas you.
Yeah you going to have to. RUNnnn
Will Boeing be awarded the contract to build this giant one-way piece of junk.
NASA has no vision. They have picked up where they left and now making things bigger? 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂

Apparently you can't say mankind anymore. It was to be humankind to include woman's 😊
Elon you are ambition and illusion,by the way my Queen Virgin Mother Mary she stopped that all rockets all over the world.
SLS to be cancelled.

old documentary, waste of time
Yup, dates back to 1887; many more, newer docs are available.
