I just love how Scott takes the bass when Avi sings lead. Amazing range! I get the same chills when hearing their version of Imagine!
As you go through the a cappella bands you will notice this is common practice the baritone will cover bass when the bass is singing melody. For example in Homefree it is Chris Rupp or Chance when Tim Foust is not singing the bass part.
Ah I see what you mean!! I love singing along to the different parts but I think I float between them unintentionally. Sure I might listen to it one more time and when my kids shout "again with the pentatonix Ma?!!" I'll explain I'm researching how one part has to drop when a lower part takes lead. I'm glad you pointed out that they weren't actually performing the song in the desert because I was about to. It's the way music videos are produced, and have been for years. As others have pointed out, there's a FANTASTIC live version of this from their Christmas TV Special. Hallelujah was my introduction to Pentatonix, and I've been hooked ever since!
Evidently, all those overhead shots almost didn't happen. They had to wait all day for the shuttles to arrive to make those shots, a good follow up to this might be their Amazing Grace which was released around December last year, just to hear how their voices have evolved since then
You should watch hallelujah from their tv special. It's amazing. Just look up hallelujah ptx live and it should be the first one that comes up. I love the reaction and I was so grateful that you all didn't try to sing or talk over Mitch solo. It's something we pentaholics get very upset about. I'm also glad you said they are actually singing in the music video and not that they were lip syncing. Great reaction. If you've already done Daft Punk, you should watch the private performance. They did it in someone's house off mic. You don't have to react to it but I think you would love to just watch it.

I don't know them. The Swingle Singers were big in the 70s and Manhattan Transfer did quite a bit of jazz and Pentatonix did a Christmas song one of their Christmas records with them.

The word you were looking for is pre-recorded it means that they recorded it in the studio and played it on speaker to film the music video 😉

They record the track so everything you hear is 100% them, then they play the track and lip sync to their track just to record the videos ❕❗
All these videos and you still call her KRISTIE-THIRSTY so KIRSTEN-THIRSTEN (ok, that’s not a word) I don’t think ANYONE has talked about the lip syncing. Most ALL videos are done that way. If there’s a microphone, it’s live. If there is no microphone, it isn’t live. I don’t understand how more people don’t know this. It’s kinda a duh.

It's a music video of course we don't think they were stranded in the Sahara and said ah howiye will we sing a song. Michael Jackson wasn't really dancing with cleopatra either. Pentatonix sound the same live by the way so can blue t-shirt shut up please. Do you think they know who you are laughing-guy-in-chair? Sometimes sshhhhh and listen 🤫👂🏼

In almost all Pentatonix videos, they are lip syncing to the original studio recording.
I love seeing reactions for this song, and this one seems far too staged for a genuine first reaction. I am further turned away by their supposed ignorance of what a music video and Acapella is, just to over explain them. Not my favorite.
