Having been a boat refugee from Vietnam coming to America as a minor at the age of 14 in 1981, this reflection is fascinating and almost brought me to tears. I lived with an American foster family when I first arrived so I was conflicted being ashamed of the Vietnamese culture and lost my ability to speak Vietnamese for a few years. I then joined the Navy right after college and served for 30 years. I am now a educator in the STEM field and do feel a sense of duty to speak out about my upbringing, and become an advocate for the youths at risk for human trafficking, coming from broken families, foster care system and new arrivals to America.
Great Show! Thank HBO and Team
As a Vietnamese person, the film is outstanding and provided me more information at that time, I loved history. Both governments have their individual goal, but for me the safety of normal people, Vietnamese people must be the priority. The war takes from them too much and I feel that.
it literally fiction. in reality the top government officials already evacuated days before the north comes to Saigon, the actual day it was a peaceful transition of power because of the president of south vietnam at the time(Duong Van Minh) surrendered without condition and said so on radio and ask all central and local government workers to work with the north. there are still foreign journalists in Vietnam on that day and you can read about their experience.
@@phatle2737 that's litterally a fiction adapted from a book. And the decisions are mostly made by non vietnamese people who directed the show. You'll always find something odd.
The best you can do is cross examinate with your relative's stories, your interpretation of the book and your own background if you went through that. Truth on cinemas are mostly tweaked to create sparkles in the eyes and catch people's attention.
Sometimes it's harsher and sometimes it's dull. With those extreme points, few people would stop watching the show.
Truly awesome!
Truly a great show.
I loved reading the book. ❤
great show
Feaking awesome movie. Can't wait to see season 2
Such an amazing series, so glad we had the opportunity to see and hear about the adversity the Vietnamese went through.
great movie
멋진 시리즈를 만들어 주셔서 감사합니다.
Great show for vietnam republic
This is not a show for South Vietnam. It is show for people of Vietnam who have been throw the war. Both side.
@@Historymotion this is true
RDJ is awesome!
“ Elvis Presley was prepared to serve!
Mahamid Ali WAS NOT❕”
🤣🤣
Im a Vietnamse that is living in Vietnam, the book and this series being banned is such a joke! This is an amazing story! God bless Vietnamese people all over the world
Yeah right you can't fool me 3 sticks.
Keep dreaming Ngụy, you will never succeed.
This is a great show and all the actors are fantastic. Only competition is from the movie EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

Anyone who fled Saigon on 29 April 1975 and anyone who stayed in Saigon on 30 April 1975 can testify that the scene of the evacuation bus running through the streets littered with uniforms of South Vietnamese army on April 29, 1975 (one day before the fall of Saigon) as depicted in the movie is a false one. That scene only happened in the afternoon of April 30, 1975 after the President of Republic of Vietnam, general Duong Van Minh, issued the surrender order to all armed forces of South Vietnam at 11:30 AM of April 30, 1075. So if general Trong in the movie escaped Saigon one day before its fall, it was impossible for him to see that scene. So what is the difference one day made? Big difference. Because if you show the soldiers of South Vietnam had deserted one day before the President issued the surrender order and before the communist troops entered the city, you distort the history and imply that South Vietnamese soldiers were cowards. In facts, on April 30, 1075 some units did not obey the surrender order and fought to their deaths in some areas of Saigon.
Even the police officer body was untrue, he didnt shot himself until the fall
@@ngoduyanhtu9976 you are right. Field Police Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Long shot himself in the afternoon of April 30, 1975, after President Duong Van Minh had issued the surrender order to all Armed Forces of South Vietnam. For dramatization of the movie, Nguyen Thanh Viet twisted many historical events.
Người dân việt nam đã mất đi tự do vốn có sau khi cuộc chiến kết thúc. Đây là một bộ phim hay giúp tôi có thêm nhiều góc nhìn mới về cuộc chiến tranh

Tự do vốn có?????
It is a respectable film about Vietnamese history. But you must understand that we were forced to ban it in our home country. Because not everyone is mature enough to understand this program in the most objective way. You will see some negative comments from both communists, republicans and anti-socialists.
Once again, thank you for creating the program.
People are quick to forget that the fall of South Vietnam was not due to the VC winning but the Americans leaving; running is a more accurate term. The Vietnamese-Americans who are now anti-VC and embrace GOP/Trump forget that America played a huge part in their displacement. The irony is lost on a lot of people.
in reality the top government officials already evacuated days before the north comes to Saigon, the actual day it was a peaceful transition of power because of the president of south vietnam at the time(Duong Van Minh) surrendered without condition and said so on radio and ask all central and local government workers to work with the north. there are still foreign journalists in Vietnam on that day and you can read about their experience.
they make a film from fiction written by whom not living in Vietnam and they consider it's truth and history lol
April 30, 1975 was not completely peaceful and quiet in Saigon. In some areas, for example Nga Tu Bay Hien, some units of South Vietnamese army fought till their deaths and burned some North Vietnamese tanks.
I cannot watch it in Vietnam.
The escape scene isn't historically right: North Vietnamese didn't bombard Saigon in 1975
Yes, the scene is historically correct. Search for "Bombing of Tan Son Nhut 1975" or "Trận đánh sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất 1975" if you speak Vietnamese. You will see that this event is even confirmed by the mainstream media of the Communist Party in Vietnam.
Yes, they bombarded Tan Son Nhút airport on April 29, 1975. That is why Americans had to change the evacuation plan from transportation planes at the airport to helicopters at various points in Saigon.
Hardline Vietnamese communists hate this series.
No they don't 😂 They enjoy this series as it portrayed how pathetic these people are
lost the country they said
Why was Bon not carrying the baby instead of his wife? smh
Great show bad Vietnamese speaking actors .Do fake !!
If actor Lê Thái Hòa of Canada played the Captain role, it would be better than Hoa Xuande, because Le Thai Hoa speaks Vietnamese very well and speaks English like Americans.
