they wanted the parliament buildings to be visible from everywhere. you could make a building that was taller, but it had to be on lower ground. they have been changing laws, and there are condo buildings going up, but they have to be multipurpose in order to get a permit. the point of the design of ottawa was to not be a metropolis, but more spread out and natural. plenty of parkland, forests, farms, and very clean air. probably won't stay that way for much longer, though.

That’s interesting asf, this make sense cuz when I was lil and used to visit Ottawa had no tall buildings now there’s bare skyscrapers it’s developing into a real major city now which is good. But I heard everyone coming from Toronto and other cities bringing the housing costs up like crazy
