I remember having to turn around to see if the Ceratosaurus/Tyrannosaurus was still chasing me or not and finding it immediately behind me. Turning to run again, their footsteps disappeared again. What the hell are devs doing? Is this a 'feature' of the Unreal engine?

Oh "You should try to avoid detection because you're a nobody in a war where the enemy is better equipped than you and you'll probably die real quick if they deem you're a threat". You'll probably die, but not definitely die. You can still fight. The longer you play for, the more familiar you get with the game and your capabilities, you can tactically take greater risks and get away with greater rewards. If they keep polishing and refining what they've got, I wouldn't be surprised if they do get a large cult following like Dark Souls. The concept, the art direction, the setting and the lore are all already mint.

Yeah you can kill a lot of people and ex-people if you want to but your life is still cheap and making mistakes can kill you just as quick no matter what.
The XM25 is actually airburst which is what the targetting computer is for, basically it lets the grenades explode in the air after a calculated distance, so you can shoot through windows and have it explode right behind them to get enemies behind cover. No clue if this is being simulated in Forever Winter though.
Short answer - I would say it doesn't work. Long answer it is clearly not finished and probably would require to work with spotting system (like if enemy is spoted - explode nade within 1m radius - how would you code that into the game so other 40mm rounds wouldnt do the same idk).
After the patch, the threshold for spawning HKs was raised, so you need to try a bit harder to bring them out. You'll either need to loot ALOT, or kill alot now.
I have only seen the grabber down a trench hallway in Elephant Mausoleum standing still! The music shift and walking around that labyrinth hoping to find an extract (still have only used the extract in top left) is next level horror!
Starting off gets pretty rough. Definitely explore other regions. Getting water is easier at the mech tench that other places. You should make getting 16 or 18 water your first priority so the other vendors open up
thats because it IS easy, this game basically follows the same dynamic as any other game, the roughest is early on at the start, but once you figure out mob paths and spawns, as well as have decent gear, the game full on becomes DOOM. I enjoy going scav girl with the kriss vector and i can sprint squad to squad hosing them down as I go. Just gotta always be on the move!
@@ninjii12 I appreciate at how the smgs do significant damage, the catch being their bullets travel slower than rifles. Also as a bonus, keep your eye open for any quests that give you a M79. It's a "pistol" in this game. That means ScavGirl can get firepower to kill exos eventually
Imo the game needs some sort of item bartering system. Drops from HKs, Exos, Mechs and tanks should be tradable for some rarer weapons and rig parts. Since destroyed grenade launchers and other small arms can be sold for much more and farmed way more consistently.
Love that the first group of Soilders were probably shooting at the Eurskian behind you and him and his squad get aerated because he didn't hit you instead.
I like doing mech trenches for the HK missions. If you go into the infirmary (which is up the small stairs to the left if you follow the trench straight from elevator spawn) you can go inside where there are several waters and explosives in another room attached to that one. Tons of meds too. Picking up 3 waters or multiple explosives always gets them to spawn for my friend and I, and they have terrible sightlines inside the building so they can be grenaded really easily. One match I think we probably killed 20+ of them. Friend ended with 80ish total kills as maskman with the 6 round grenade launcher. The mechs can also be shot really easily from inside the building and they usually die before they reach you so the damage is minimal. Plus Pull the Plug and the mech sabotage missions are right near this route so easy extra income and rep. Also we probably put 60-80 grenades into one of the grabbers and it was still alive and murdering things. They either have some crazy health threshold or they aren't meant to be killed.
yeah in the patch notes it said HK's had been messed with but while i was recording this i didn't know whether certain items would still trigger them or not, good to see they are a bit less aggressive now
Finally got stable fps after changing from borderlessds to full screen. For some reason this game hates borderless. Was running about 40fps on a good run to a semi solid 60fps
@RozKil yeah just find the highest resolution you can run above 60 that still fits in your border. I think I'm at 2560x1440 and everything is on medium. But I tried it on lower and no drops at all. May look like a ps2 game if you go to low but hey solid fps over looks
Here is fun tip - as far as I know Grabber and that Doggo HK are unkillable. Only thing you can do is to stun them and run away. I guess that is what cryo ammo is for.
Mate can you show how to extract with exo pilot quest? I was near destroyed mech, but without accepted quest it’s not intractable it seems. And where to find corpse tank? It will be pretty good series of videos with where to find specific quests items like picture or targeting system rather than simple to understand mdk tasks.
Meantime ive meet them a moment ago 2 times in a row on Ashen Mesa. FIrst time they spawned quite literally out of nowhere after my and friend killed 7 Europa soldiers for mission. Second time after my friend opened storage with Uplinks right after me. He didnt take anything from this storage.
Bit of inaccuracy with the XM25 CDTE in the game. In-game it uses 40mm grenades, possibly as a placeholder. In reality it uses 25x40mm grenades loaded into a 5 round magazine and have maximum range of whooping 1100 yards or 1000 meters. Its have various grenades such as, thermobaric, flachette, HEAB, AP and more. And its a heavy SOB, weighting more than 6 kilos unloaded.
You are cool as a cucumber. Why didnt you just book it when the grabber spawned? Do t they one shot you? Can you actually escape them? Like knowing its on the map is enough for me to shit myself and go straight to the extract.
The other night me and a buddy were able to scare it off multiple times during a charge at us by unloading on its face... on the 3rd or 4th attempt it took me down while my buddy ran to the extract... he made it out too

i mean it wasn't really a stealth nerf because it was in the patch notes that the HK spawns had been messed with, but yes this is after the patch and i for one am very glad they did it because having HK's spawn as soon as i looted anything (happened when i just opened a loot container once) was very frustrating
I love this game but 1thing is frustrating when I go surplus weapons almost always i do the quest...but when i pack good weapons bam im swarmed.. its like the game knows you have a good weapon so time to lose it...😂
damn that sucks...if you haven't already get the SVD or RPK both of of them are good weapons you can buy from the ARAMAKI vendor early on which will help you a lot when getting swarmed
