Thank you for this. Your demos are among the very best on RUclips. They are very informative and always give a true sense of what a given guitar pedal can actually produce tone-wise. A refreshing change from the countless "demos" produced by people who seem to be far more interested in showing off their "noodling" skills than the capabilities of the gear they are claiming to demonstrate. Great stuff !! Thanks again.
Thank you for the review - Ordered one for my 11 year old son who is loving the blues right now and he loves this pedal. We watch your review together and he purchased it w/ his own $. Much appreciated.
I build and play 3-string Cigar Box Guitars, both fretted and unfretted. I use mostly mini-humbuckers with a few single coils now and then. It's all just for giggles. It keeps me out of trouble and that keeps the wife happy. I recently added the Sweet Honey to my limited selection of pedals. Wow, wow and wow is my summation. This pedal is a great example of where less is definitely more. The low gain keeps everything warm and organic sounding with no loss of clarity. This is just what I want, when playing roots Blues with slide. The tones this pedal produces are very subtle. I like this a lot. I was nicely surprised, when I discovered the Sweet Honey gives my old Roland Cube-15 a very cool retro tube sound. I found the focus knob controls the dynamics of the pedal big time. All the way to the left and it's very soft. I really have to dig in to get some crunch. All the way to the right, I only have to look at the strings for things to get dirty. I guess the pickups and amp are controlling factors. I only use the medium hot Warman Poleless Firebucker mini-humbuckers and Warman HOT Tele Neck pickups for my single coils. Even they're not very hot at 3.5 Henries. I need to try the Warman Soapy Joe’s P90s. I love the transparency of this pedal. There's absolutely no need for a tone control. It would only get in the way. Just plug the pedal in and you're good to go - perfect! I may add the Joyo Vintage Overdrive, just to have that tube screamer tone for when it's needed. It's not as if I need a mortgage to buy these pedals. For everyday use, the Sweet Baby is my overdrive pedal of choice. It's simply gorgeous sounding.
You should hear the pedal it's a clone of- the Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD- it's this pedal but, more of whatever it is that makes it so good. I can't put my finger on it- but they're both amazing drives and whatever that quality is that makes them amazing- the original has tiny bit more of it.
Because of your reviews and videos I bought California Sound, AC Tone, Ultimate Drive, Deluxe Crunch and Classic Flanger ... Next will be Sweet Baby and US Dream. Thank you for the pedal reviews.
I've been looking at this pedal for quite sometime. Thinking about taking the plunge. I've yet, to see a YT video that does this Joyo Sweet Baby any injustice. Your tone is excellent. As is your playing. Thanks for sharing this lovely video.
Hi from Canada! Your videos are very informative and you take the time to demonstrate features in detail. This helps players make a decision. Also, your sense of humour is hilarious. Could you review the Empress Germ drive sometime?
this pedal really good with humbucker! i didnt like with singles. im using this pedal with marshall mg100 with gibson sg standard with classic 57 pickups. very dynamic and sweet tone. another pedal on my board is bb preamp. i think im going to sell the bb preamp. cuz its sucks with humbuckers
This pedal seems really great, one of the better one in the price range. Gonna see how I feel about my Ultimate Drive once it arrives, I might need something like this too. Nevertheless, great video! All the demos are professional and well produced. I'm only missing on single thing, and that is how the overdrive/distortion pedals respectively sound in front of a driven amp as boosters. Other than that, no complaints! Keep at it, cheers from Sweden
How do you compare the sweet baby to the joyo vintage overdrive? wich one sounds better to your ears?. Other thing, your demos are awesome but i'll be nice if you do them also whit sigle coil pickup guitars, other then that, the demos are great and very informative.
Great job, Henning, as always. So many great pedals... Can you tell me, if you were limited to Caline, Joyo and NUX overdrives, which 2 or 3 of each brand would you choose? Thanks.
Could you make a video on how the Sweet Baby stacks with other Joyo drives such as the Vintage Overdrive, Deluxe Crunch and Ultimate Drive. I love the tone of all of them and will definitely be getting the Sweet Baby, but I do not know which one would make it sound the best when stacked. I know that it would sound good with a pedal such as the JHS Superbolt or Emerson Custom Paramount but I'm looking for a pedal in the Joyo range or any other budget range for that matter that would sound great when stacked with the Sweet Baby. Hope you can help! Keep up the great work, this video was incredibly informative.
How do you think it stacks against the pedal it's a clone of- the Mad Professor Sweet Honey? Is the original enough better to warrant the huge price difference? The original runs about 170$ I think- which is like 5-6 times more. Imo it's better, but not "better" enough to warrant costing what it does.
That's a great looking guitar, I've always wanted a PRS. This pedal sounds very creamy, I about to get 2 of the JOYOs in the mail (Compressor and Vintage distortion) if I love those Im definitely picking this one up.
Greetings from New Jersey. I like your videos. I want to try Joyo pedals now because of you. I want to get close to SRV's soound. Which Joyo pedal would you recommend? I'm thinking the Vintage Overdrive, Sweet Baby, or the Hot Plexi, or whatever you say. I'm Playing a Strat through a Blackstar HT-1R plugging into a Marshall MG Series MG412CF 4x12.
TIM HTIKE Not the Hot PLExi... too much gain and not enough mids.... I would say Vintage Overdrive and Sweet Baby... either or and maybe a combination of the two !
Great reviews of the joyo/Harley pedals!!!! I was close to getting a Mojo hand fx Rook overdrive. Excellent pedal by far and still would like to own one but the price is not to bad but the price on these can't b beat!! Which 2 of all these do u highly recommend??
one of the best guitar player on youtube rewiews. maybe the best. but i don t like to say the best.. it is difficult to say..but sure one of the best. maybe i should come to Mannheim to take gitar lessons..the problem is.. usually guitar teachers gave up in me after only 2 or 3 lessons
That guitar is a one bad ass looker, that said I did buy the Sweet Baby OD after seeing this vid. Unfortunately the unit, which I bought it new came DOA. will not turn on. It was sent back, I probably will try to get another one, since my other choice would be Barber LTD which is also low gain OD box, or I can get the "original" one but both of these are way more mulas.
To my ears, the Sweet Baby and Deluxe Crunch are the two best pedals...it would seem one could cover a great deal of sonic territory between them. Would I be far off in concluding that the Sweet Baby could be described as somewhat similar to a Tube Screamer in granularity (very smooth/fine...where almost any chord would sound very good with it), but more pick-sensitive and with a flat frequency response instead of that huge midrange hump/weak bass of the TS? So far, I only have the Ultimate Drive, and I do love it for fat, creamy, rich leads on my Tele bridge pickup & P90 semi-hollow (somewhere between OD & distortion and not shrill at all), but from what I'm gathering, it sounds as if the Deluxe Crunch covers much broader OD/Distortion territory, with cleaner top-end and without the exaggerated bass thump of the Ultimate Drive (which to be fair, can be kind of awesome at times). Is this somewhat accurate? Thanks again for the great videos!
Wow... you pretty much nailed it in your description.... nothing I can add to that... The Tubescreamer is a pedal that also let's the clean sound through a bit, which is why it is such a special pedal.... the sweet baby doesn't do that. You might want to check my MOVALL videos, the HORNET is a sweet baby killer and the FIREFLY is also in that league, but better....
Would you say the Sweet Baby would fall into BD-2 Blues Driver territory? (With the BD-2 at lower gain settings). I love the jangly open nature of the BD-2. It would be nice to have something similar but voiced a little different. Thanks!
Jet Screamer Spot on explanation. I like the BD for lower gain because yes it gets fizzy. SB is indeed smooth. The pick attack dynamics thing is amazing.
You are right. Well, when you were describing the production of the demo it was professional. Just because a pedal doesn't cost a car payment doesn't mean it won't sound good. I have played some hi end pedals that were just Ok. LOL. Great demo and Rock on!
How is this pedal compared to boss blues driver? Can I get similar sounds with this one or do you think there's another joyo pedal that sounds similar to the blues driver? I'm thinking on getting clear sparkly distortion but $100 for the BD-2 is way to high for me right now...
Hi Rafael, I can't tell you if this sounds like the blues driver, because I don't have one, but it definitely sounds clear and sparkly. You also might want to check out the MOVALL Hornet... I have a video on my channel... VERY clear and loads of high ends... it shines, especially with single coils... killer pedal for probably around 50 to 60 dollars...
I bought this pedal to use with both my p-90, and Fender single coil guitars. I get a good country overdrive sound from it. I really like this pedal, but it adds a little too much treble. With darker sounding humbuckers it may be ok, but with my guitars, its brighter than I like. I would like to see JOYO manufacture a newer version of this pedal but with the addition of a presence knob, so we could cut some of the upper treble down.
Great sounding overdrive, but I couldn´t hear any changes with the focus knob being used, so I guess it doesn´t have any tone control to mention.....too bad.
Ojoe2010 you must have a defective pedal or poor hearing. Turning the focus to the left lowers the treble and make it less edgy and much smoother, while turning clockwise will make it brighter, sharper and more distortion.
Scott Locaputo Well, I am practically deaf on my right side, you got me there. But I was talking about the vid, I don´t own this pedal. Could also be the lesser quality of sound my PC has, although I use headphones.....dunno....honestly couldn´t hear too much of a difference.
Ojoe2010 I have high end speakers hooked up to my computer, and youre right you cant hear that much difference from the video. But hooked up to my telecaster I can hear the treble being boosted turned clockwise.
Paco Tores did you miss the part where it says recorded at 42 studios in large friendly letters at the start? I missed that the first time i watched this video too. Caught it the second time though so I wanted to respond to this comment even though I see you posted it a while back. Cheers!
EytschPi42 ah, since the big muff is a fuzz distortion with a lot of bottom end, I'm looking for a very subtle over drive and from your video this thing sounds great, I currently have a ts9 and it sounds okay but I'm looking for something less treble. Your video sounds pretty close to what im after so I suppose I should just buy one lol. Already got a joyo classic flanger and I love it.
Killer Pedal ? This pedal is an embarrassment. Low Frequency Articulation ? Defined Midrange ? String definition ? Depth of Tone ? Complexity of tone ? etc.

Thanks, it is good to know that my work, which does not pay, is appreciated !
Thank you for the review - Ordered one for my 11 year old son who is loving the blues right now and he loves this pedal. We watch your review together and he purchased it w/ his own $. Much appreciated.
I love my Sweet Baby, best pedal I have. I use it for all my transparent OD work. $35 bucks but I use it more than my JHS Sweet Tea
Oh my God, I love you like an old friend. Thank you Henning - as a much older man & father, I can ASSURE you, your dad is so proud of you.
Thanks for a great review. This pedal, and the PRS, sings in your hands! Thank you!
man, great idea that you put a time in the screen to skipp at in the beginning.
more youtubers should do that!
and thx for the video

It's worth it. A rare pedal that doesn't really sound like a pedal. Just like more of the amp or a different amp
Hi from Canada! Your videos are very informative and you take the time to demonstrate features in detail. This helps players make a decision. Also, your sense of humour is hilarious. Could you review the Empress Germ drive sometime?
+Robert Newman Hi... thanks man... if Empress wants to send me one I will most certainly do a demo !!!
Never thought Joyo was cool until I watched your demos. It started with the D-Seed pedal.
It's my favorite pedal too. From subtle to all out grit, its a very tight yet warm pedal.
I purchased this OD pedal based on your excellent & professional review. Please do more gear! Sehr gut!
this pedal really good with humbucker! i didnt like with singles. im using this pedal with marshall mg100 with gibson sg standard with classic 57 pickups. very dynamic and sweet tone. another pedal on my board is bb preamp. i think im going to sell the bb preamp. cuz its sucks with humbuckers

Awesome pedal. Been on my pedalboard for a few weeks now. It's a keeper. Especially for $35.
I really enjoy your reviews, including your playing. Thank you.
Really cool review and loved your work with Adrian. Really cool music. Liked it enough to look for it on iTunes or some place.
this seems to be so perfect for buckethead songs. thanks for the review, love your playing too
How do you compare the sweet baby to the joyo vintage overdrive? wich one sounds better to your ears?. Other thing, your demos are awesome but i'll be nice if you do them also whit sigle coil pickup guitars, other then that, the demos are great and very informative.

Great video, great sounding pedal, very organic sounding. Thank you!
Beautiful sounding pedal and great playing man.
Great reviews man, you really deserve more views
Joyo SWEET BABY Overdrive is amazing.. it is already on my wishlist.. guess i m gonna buy it..
It's one of those pedals that doesn't need to be on a wish list very long since it's so cheap
Thank you so much for this!!!! I now own one !!!
Thanks for another interesting demo. Excellent!
thank you so much, i found a lot of demo about this pedal, but no one satisfied me like this.. i think i'll buy it!
but what song have you played ?
Could you make a video on how the Sweet Baby stacks with other Joyo drives such as the Vintage Overdrive, Deluxe Crunch and Ultimate Drive. Year later i do agree :D it owuld be a nice vid :D

The original runs about 170$ I think- which is like 5-6 times more. Imo it's better, but not "better" enough to warrant costing what it does.
ALL the crunch I need.
That's a great looking guitar, I've always wanted a PRS. This pedal sounds very creamy, I about to get 2 of the JOYOs in the mail (Compressor and Vintage distortion) if I love those Im definitely picking this one up.
Amazing playing
Nice tone on that pedal 😃

all 3..

For me the TOP 2 would be the SWEET BABY and the DELUXE CRUNCH
HAHA! Did you know that when i was buying my Sweet Baby THOSE TWO were what I was choosing from :D?
awesome solo!
one of the best guitar player on youtube rewiews. maybe the best. but i don t like to say the best.. it is difficult to say..but sure one of the best. maybe i should come to Mannheim to take gitar lessons..the problem is.. usually guitar teachers gave up in me after only 2 or 3 lessons

Wonderfull songs and pedal
Excellent and professional review. I subscribed.
Wish you would have played through a Tele too, but at least we could hear the pedal through a single coil tone.
Thank you for another great review
What a tone! :)
Thanks for the reviews. I had my gear stolen and I'm leaning towards replacing it with all Joyo pedals.
To my ears, the Sweet Baby and Deluxe Crunch are the two best pedals...it would seem one could cover a great deal of sonic territory between them. good demo. Thanks

No BD-2 experience, so I can't say, sorry !
lets just say same thing much more expensive, Boss Blues Driver.
Jet Screamer Spot on explanation. I like the BD for lower gain because yes it gets fizzy. SB is indeed smooth. The pick attack dynamics thing is amazing.
Good demo thanks a lot!!

"Focus" seems to adjust *presence*.. like on a Marshall head.
What are "standing chords"?
I bought this pedal to use with both my p-90, and Fender single coil guitars. I get a good country overdrive sound from it.

By the way yes beautiful guitar and amp
Omg first time my attention is dragged to this. This is a ts9 killer
vielen dank... Henning Pauly isses eigentlich... Ja, so ein Ding muss ,an
Man you have a beautiful place dude. You must be rolling in the money....lol.
Paco Tores did you miss the part where it says recorded at 42 studios in large friendly letters at the start? I missed that the first time i watched this video too. Caught it the second time though so I wanted to respond to this comment even though I see you posted it a while back. Cheers!
Playing a $5000 guitar through a $30 pedal. I love it! :)
What brand strings? Gauge?
Do you think the sweet baby would play well with a big muff pi?
Sorry, can't tell you since I don't have a Big Muff here, so it would just be guessing....
EytschPi42
ah, since the big muff is a fuzz distortion with a lot of bottom end, I'm looking for a very subtle over drive and from your video this thing sounds great, I currently have a ts9 and it sounds okay but I'm looking for something less treble. Your video sounds pretty close to what im after so I suppose I should just buy one lol. Already got a joyo classic flanger and I love it.
Very well review . thumb up
...Sorry.... muss man doch mit chords zeigen... dafür isses ja da... wohne bei Gießen in Hessen...
I liked it that much here on youtube that I ordered it yesterday :D (from pedalcorner.com)
You state it's subtle. Man, it has lots of gain. For my taste anyway.
Is DR.J a real doctor?
Great Reviews / Salamandertales
All that hi tech gear to demo a $35.00 pedal. What ever works.
only because the pedal is cheap doesn't mean it can't keep up with the high end gear...
Killer Pedal ?
This pedal is an embarrassment.
Low Frequency Articulation ?
Defined Midrange ?
String definition ?
Depth of Tone ?
Complexity of tone ?
etc.
