Literally the exact same happened when I fought him with my sword and shield but it was the other way around when it comes to who was doing the combos. :D
I saw this video after succumbing to the Azure that was scaled up after my friend quit. The Sword and Shield didn't have any answers (to me) to mitigate flight, so I went with the bow, hampered his flight with broken wings, then took him down through attrition. But your video gave me the inspiration to try it solo, and I got it on that try. Thank you for the video/inspiration.
Very good pattern! Not very much flying, and he didn't spam the poison hop. I may need to take a few notes while I'm at it because you have some good positioning that I am lacking.
Quick question, are you drawing into block -> back circle inorder to do those charged slashes? It seems so seemless so I assume you just practice until you get this motion down?
Thats right, block->Back circle, I wouldn't say I went into a training room and practised, I just slowly got used to it over the course of 800+ SnS hunts
Why is it that no matter how many times I trap rathalos and hit him, he always stays up in the air afterwards, spamming fire and lightning fast swoops?
Its because he stands near his feet, which makes him use his stomp attack. Otherwise he will only use his air moves. Fucking bullshit, I know. Only the Arena Azure Rathalos has this AI
i am quite new to this game, played MHW for my first monster hunter, tried it with dual blades...absolutely no chance -.- that is frustrating me as hell...
Now this is bs. I get near mine and it decides it too good for the ground and flies. It see’s me and flies. It’ll land I’ll hit it once and it’ll fly. I place down a trap and it’ll fly.
Rathalos takes off on entry roar, and rage roar, if you flinch him during rage roar he won't take off and stay on the ground, then it's just a matter of keeping him immobile, you have more than enough tools with SnS to keep him grounded for the majority of the fight.

With the Iceborne expansion you could use the tenderization mechanics to really increase damage output. Nice vid.

Funny I was just doing this today... ur definitely a maestro. Sns beginners weapon my **s it's deadly in the hands of an expert
It's still a beginners weapon since it's one of the easiest to use. Doesn't mean it can't be deadly.
